Just ordered a 6’0 , super stoked. This vid has made me even more stoked to get it now! Definitely taking it to Biarritz this summer
Great review thanks Wooly. Toying between this and the Micks Tape. I’m the same size as you so this was really helpful.
The fact that you got some rides out of that s#!+ surf, is testament to you and the board.😎
Got one ,.
Getting another ,.
BobbyQuads are funner than an impromptu Friday Night 3 way ,.
Bout the same price too ~lol
I’ve been looking at the Bobby Quad until the Pyzel White Tiger came out. I want them both!
@woolytv What would you go for a groveller js sub zero, Bobby quad, rocket wide squash or rocket wide swallow. I surf quads too. Mainly for point and beach breaks central coast nsw. Cheers mate, love your reviews
Hi mate
Thats a hard one! If you love quads grab the Bobby, although I did like the Sub Xero as a quad too. All of these boards you have noted down would all do the trick for you.Maybe watch all the 3 reviews and look to see which one looks the best to you for the wave types you surf.
Cheers
Another good review. Did you prefer this board or the FireWire Mashup?
Thanks 🙏. They are very different boards. Mash Up I found a lot of fun in the smaller stuff and fitted the pocket of the really small waves. The Bobby went well in flatter grovel waves but also worked in slightly bigger stuff too.
Another fun Review!! ok which would you pick Bobby Q or Subxero for 2-3 ft short cobblestone point and not much power. Cheers!
Hmmmmmm maybe the Sub Xero because you have the five fin boxes and can run it as a thruster, quad or 2+1. More versatile.
But if you are a super fan of quads then grab the Bobby 🤙
Good review!!the more versatile between the js flyer baron and the bbq?thank s
For me the Baron Flyer was more versatile. The Bobby quad really fun in the small stuff but I think the BF has a wider wave range
You’re a huge character mate 😂, great review, board looks like it just wants to go 👍
Hey Wooly, how does the BQ compare to the Mashup?
I think the Mash Up is more versatile with the 5 fin boxes, the BQ you are stuck with the quad set up. The Mash Up felt very lively compared to the BQ.
Board looks great under your feet. Too bad it won’t last long with that UL glass.
It’s holding up very well so far. It’s actually not as light as some of my other boards. Feels more like a stock glass job than my light ones. I have so many board they don’t get time to fall apart 😂
Nice one! Which one would you pick for beachbreaks from waist to overhead? bobby quad or happy every day?
For me I would probably go the Happy Everyday. It’s just an easy board to ride in a big range of waves. The Bobby quad is a great edition if you already have your standard quiver sorted 🤙
Hey Wooly, I love your reviews. Trying to decide between the CI rocket wide or the Bobby quad. They both seem geared towards similar conditions and both went really well under your foot. Which one would you choose?
Hi mate
I would probably go the Rocket Wide as it’s a bit more versatile. Unless of course you are an avid quad fan and in that case go the Bobby 🤙
There are times when a tight box is....🤣.........board looks great for most of the first 1/2 of this year in West Oz 🤪
Wooly looking sharp on that. I love CI boards personally however ive never had a quad i can happily ride. Never been able to work them out so I'll stick with the 3 fins
I’m a bit the same. I very rarely ride quads. Mainly do it on wide tailed boards for grovel. That’s when I find they work for me.
This board looks so much like the G-Skate it's hard to imagine they are much different.
Quads aren't faster in small waves. It's a dumb myth in the industry. You'd get the same performance out of a board with that volume and outline if it had 3 fins. It's possible to get good performance out of a quad for small waves but the back fins need to be put right inside the front fins. The back fins all the way back only increases hold which is ideal for a gun set up where the wave provides all the speed. Adding a fin in the back only creates more drag without increasing drive. This doesn't help anything for small waves. If you noticed, the board performed well when he got on a decent sized wave with some push, but on the smaller waves the board didn't add any drive at all and looked sluggish.
Disagree - If you’re a back foot surfer quads make it more loose, which make it easier to pump on smaller waves.
Fins in the back of the tail provide stability and directional control. If you add a 2nd big fin back there, you're literally adding more hold. Pros have mostly gone to quads on guns for this reason. They give the board more hold. Looseness is the absolute last thing big wave riders want on their guns. Even Slater said when he competes in general he uses thrusters for waves that he's just going to be turning on and quads for barrels because they hold in. Ways to actually make a quad loose would be to use much smaller fins in the back, or to put the back fins forward to where they're inside and overlapping the front fins. That way the back fins are also contributing to the drive. The clip shows exactly what I'm explaining. On the shoulder and head high waves, the wave provides all the push needed and he can go fast. On the smaller waves and sections, you can see the board providing no additional drive and he kind of starts bogging. Twins are faster in small waves, not quads.
@@clintjones9848 still disagree. Where is the Science behind your statement?
What do you mean where is the science? Quads are proven to hold more which is why they're used on guns. They aren't looser. There's more fin area in the back of the tail that doesn't add to drive and only increases hold. I've also tested the different fin systems across different boards and waves. I was a pro glasser in the 10s. Felipe Toledo rode a quad at the surf ranch competition last weekend and you can literally see him pushing harder to get the same amount of give compared to a thruster. Go check out the clips. The surf ranch is about a 3 foot wave. The surfers have to generate their speed.
@@clintjones9848 So the Science i: trust me bro, I know. Once they get going they are definitely looser, it’s like comparing tails swallows are looser than squares right?
I think it should be pointed out how hard are always ripping for a bigger framed surfer. Awesome video, and great surfing. I’ve been wanting to try this board it looks pretty fun for sure
Thanks for the kind words. Don’t worry there are plenty of guys my size that tear! Jordy Smith comes to mind!
