Beautiful tactics by Harris. When Saruni moves to the front at 500m, Harris goes with him at first and forces saruni to reach almost top gear in order to get to the rail before the curve. Harris slows down a bit at 550m before re-kicking at 650m on the now exhausted Saruni and outlasting him down the home stretch.
Sometimes you have to downshift to go faster. It's all about knowing your engine (body). Some people go all out without thought too early and end up on the cruising gear(top speed) when what you should be doing at the last stretch is a last burst of acceleration.
Saruni's mistake wasn't kicking at 300 to go - Harris did the same thing. The mistake was the move at 300m in onto the homestretch. Saruni wasn't able to get on the inside, forced to the outside for over 100m (from 400-500), and then into his kick.
Bryce Hoppel is too underrated .... his kick was insane!! Went from last up to 4th in that last 100 and with a very respectable 1:45. He’s slept on too much for that kind of talent
ChalkLitIScream I think it's also the cool weather. In El Paso, Texas it is typically very hot and dry. Anyone acclimated to the weather there has got to be at a disadvantage in this final
Harris made Saruni really work for the lead coming into the final bend, then smartly slowed but stayed close, giving himself just a touch more for the final meters. Smart running!
I ran a 2:02 in hs and won by 70 meters. Ran a 1:57.1 in college and got 6th at confrence. Its hilarious that I'd be 70 meters behind these guys at my best
Seems like the mistake of going too early. The guy that sits behind the forerunner and waits to pounce often wins. A guy like Rudisha that can win from the front all the way is rare. Of course what I am observing is not an absolute in any sense.

But he's only a junior!

Saruni you're still my legend
Saruni should not have let up that hard. Run through the line, always. It was an easy 2nd for Saruni.

He’s like me except im way slower
You literally predicted the future haha

+Andy Ruiz I think he means he was still setting up when the gun was fired

His form!!!
It looks so hype at the ncaa championships 🔥🙏🏼😈
Nice Kick!!! This guy surprised everyone!!!
Harris represented Penn State well. I'm a proud Nittany Lion
Saruni went too hard from 500-600m. He was gassed with 50m to go. Still an incredible athlete he is though
Crazy results in the NCAA!
My idol
Saruni reminds me of Oregon great Rupe.
Saruni my schoolmate kabimoi secondary School.
Crazy running style. He would go much quicker if thrusting leg was extended and if backlift was higher.
This is why your coach always tells you to run a smart race.
Saruni is now the Kenyan Champion. Looking to take over from Rudisha 👀
@@felistergatwiri7134 That's Wassup. 💪🏾

Saruni should have stayed on inside on the first lap
Caster Semenya is all over my mind when I see the 800. In fact, I think I saw her running.
KiLLED5639 nice young man
Saruni ran it like he was cocky. am I right?
