Bench Testing Car Amplifier | Rockford Fosgate R500X1D How-to Guide

- My Rockford Fosgate 500 watt amp stopped working, so I took it apart checked the mosfets, and even bench tested it. See how I hooked it up to my computer and a car battery. Also if you have any idea after watching the video what you think is wrong, please comment below. When the amp is hooked up in the car I would only get about 3 volts on multimeter to the positive wire. The remote wire has 12 volts and when I unhook the amplifier the positive wire has 12 volts again. I tested all the mosfets and they seemed fine expect 1 power rectifier seems shorted. However the multimeter doesn’t do a continuous beep, so I’m not sure if the rectifier is broken, or if that’s how it’s supposed to act. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

UPDATE: The other day I was helping my brother-in-law upgrade his system to 0 gauge wiring, and we ended up looking at mine. My original 8 gauge wiring was burned near the battery terminal so my Rockford Fosgate was trying to power 650rms through a a 16 gauge wire equivalent!!! Long story short, I upgraded my wiring to a solid 4 gauge OFC copper wire and now my Rockford Fosgate hits harder than ever before. I'm not even sure if I want to upgrade it anymore....

Man upgrade that shit lol. I done went from 2 jbl 1000 watt subs to the mtx jack hammers then I went with 2 12in kicker vrs then went to the 15in ones then I got a solo baric 18inch sub in the back of my envoy on a 5000 watt kicker amp and i loved it but the speaker tore and I didn't know about recone kits so I sold it. Then I got a f150 because I sold the envoy and had stock in it for a day took it got two 12 inch kicker comp the flat ones that go under seat and had that for about a year took those out and put my 3000 watt pioneer sub where the single flip up backseat is,and it's loud got a 4000 watt power acoustic gothic series amp and it shakes the ground but I'm tired of that so I'm doing 6 HA-Audio spl compition 12in subs 3000 watts and 3 hifonics colusess amps. Each amp pushes 4000 watts rms so bout 18000 watts I'm putting in......moral of story is you can never have enough BASS OR MUSIC. IF YOU'RE GONNA DO IT, DO IT BIG AND DO IT RIGHT LOL.
Once the Caps are charged the short along the leads will go away.
Hi, do you happen to have an internal schematic for R500X1D? (I would like to compare internal topology with Alpine MRV-M500).
Also in the video I have an update on my #Lifespan TR800-DT3 Under Desk Treadmill. I bought it November 27th and I'm having problems with it. So far #LifespanFitness has been great with their warranty service, but I can't believe I already need warranty service. I already recorded mulitple clips about the treadmill and some issues, so look forward to a upcoming video on that as well. I already ordered all new brakes including my favorite pads and rotors, I will reveal it in the next video. This BTW is for a 2006 #LexusGS300 AWD.
I'm really sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them... I got the same kit for my 05' RSX Type-S and been running them for about a year now, they're still going strong. Also, my kit came with 3 or 4 different sets of clips, so it could fit multiple styles of caliper bracket
Unsure if you've resolved, but it appears you had the remote wire and main power wire swapped in your car. From your statement that you were only getting 3vdc on B+ and 12vdc on remote in.
The fuse from your power wire is bad in the car.
You are exactly right, it was a glass fuse that looked ok, but I saw a video that said the solder joints are bad. Long story short I upgraded my crappy amp wiring from 8 gauge to 4 gauge OFC. Soon I'm upgrading to 0 gauge because I'm upgrading my amp. My system sounds SOOOO much stronger with the new wire upgrade and we did the BIG 2 out of the BIG 3. I still have to run a better wire from my alternator to the battery, but I'm waiting until I do my 0 gauge conversion. Maybe I'll make a video out of that install for fun. #caraudio #subwoofer
Do you have a schematic for that board I'm having clipping issues thinking along the same lines you were. I have it apart,no fried smell,also no obvious burnt anything.
