  • A quick run through on the gear that I use to host a small open jam in an outdoor venue. This will also work for indoor venues as well as the ZLX's had plenty of power to fill the park with the help of that 15" sub. The speakers were left on 0db all night. (the sub was turned down below that as it's pretty powerful).
    The equipment used is a s follows:
    Behringer Xair XR12
    TP-Link AC750 travel router
    Senheiser E835 microphone
    Audix OM-2 Microphone
    Yamaha DXS15 (this was a rental as my EKX-18SP didn't show up in time)
    1x ZLX-12P
    1x ZLX-12BT
    Yamaha EMX212 Powered mixer for the floor monitors
    Community DnD12 passive speakers as floor monitors
    2X ADJ VPAR PAK (super impressed with how bright these were! After the show I turned them around and they lit up the whole park!)
    2x American DJ LTS-6 9ft Heavy Duty Tripods
    If you have an questions, post them below and I'll do my best to answer them for you!

    Hey Mike, Thank you for this well done video! I picked one of these XR12's up a few years ago and have barely used it but it is indeed a great live set up for our little get togethers in non musical venues. Your monitor set up is the thing that really set off a bell as one of my music mates has a little yamaha powered mixer with 2 speakers set up that will work perfect for this.

      Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
      Not a fan of that monitor setup as it adds a lot of unnecessary complexity and gear to the system. It really should just be 2 powered speakers with signal coming from the stereo headphone out of the XR12 giving separate control over each monitor. Looking at the ALTO 8" as they are small, light and pack a bit of. A punch. For small gigs they should work. But probably not so much for a band with a drum set... Although, at that point the XR12 doesn't have enough inputs to support that anyway.

    This is amazing, thank you for sharing this walkthrough. So the acoustic guitar has an XLR input, I haven't seen that before. What are channels 5-10 used for if the guitars go out of 11-12 and only 1-4 have the XLR/ 1/4" combo?

    • @MikeBabsBC
      @MikeBabsBC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, the acoustic guitar has a balanced xlr out. 5-10 can accommodate keyboards or anything with a line level. Mostly they are left empty.

    Great video. I was wondering what type of cables are you using from your Aux Sends to the powered mixer? I am having trouble getting my Aux 1 and Aux 2 sends to work with a powered monitor. It may be a routing problem with X AIR Edit but not sure. Thanks

    Will the compressors/gates sidechain in the xr12? Id like to install an xair mixer in a bowling alley, but dont need all the i/o of the 16 or 18 channel versions. Just 8 in and 4 out.
    Id like the house music to get muted when the jukebox comes on and all the music to come down when making announcements, so the bartenders don't need to mess with levels, except the main volume.

    • @MikeBabsBC
      @MikeBabsBC  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's an older usb slot, so I imagine there is an upper limit to the max size you can use. You'd have to check the behringer website for the exact specs. but I was using an 8gb micro SD card in a usb adapter and it worked fine. It does record in wav format, not mp3 so the files are huge. If you are recording a long show then you will make big files.

    HI.. thank you for this video. I've been reworking my rig. I have an XR12 as well and a portable gear case now and was thinking...I'd like to hardwire my iPad into the XR12 but play my backing tracks from either a second iPad or my laptop. BUT I need to utilize the establishments wifi connection for internet for certain apps on my laptop ( or second iPad) and right now when I hook up the laptop to the mixer.. obviously I have to use the mixer's IPaddress ( which I have an external router for as well. ) which then doesn't allow me to get online onto the internet. So.. would that work for me without interference? Just hardwire the iPad to the mixer and still hook up my laptop to the mixer's 5 and 6 channels to play tracks from and then be able to hop onto the venue's internet with my laptop (or 2nd iPad) without confusing both of the devices connection attempts? I also use a wireless mic and wireless IEM. ( In my portable rack is: a Shure Mic receiver, Shure mic IEM, external extended antennas, furman power conditioner, external router, XR12 and storage drawer just for reference. )

    • @MikeBabsBC
      @MikeBabsBC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'd be fine connecting an iPad to your xr12 and then using a laptop to access wifi and feed audio out through the headphone jack into one of the 1/4" input. The mixer will just see that as a line in, not a computer so won't mess with your iPad connection. As for running other wireless gear, I use a cheap small travel router and connect to that via 5G, so it's a solid connection for me and others that I got the idea from. Does that answer your question?

    • @pattyspeedmusic
      @pattyspeedmusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MikeBabsBC Ok. Yes. That answers my initial question. Thank You very much for your speedy reply. @@MikeBabsBC I guess I was thinking for the ultimate safety of not losing the digital mixer sound hook up. A safety measure. Due to a lot of interference cell phones etc. ? Do you think I don't need to hardwire it?🧐th-cam.com/video/xLqc_4Q4ERY/w-d-xo.html. Plus I can't seem to have full control over my IEM monitor that I use without being hardwired in. @@pattyspeedmusic If you don't need to be mobile with your iPad, then I'm with you on hard wiring it. I am not sure how to do that with an iPad though, sorry 😊
      The connection issues with the behringers, so I'm told, is due to the internal router only allowing 5 connections at a time. Unfortunately, when a new device tries to connect it boots the oldest connection... So, at an event, whenyou connect to the router with your iPad, 5 others patrons phones try to connect to your behringer, even though they can't actually connect (as they don't have the password) those 5 new connections bump yours off. Using an external router, you won't have this issue as they are designed for many connections.
      So, your IEM, you only loose partial functionality when connecting the iPad to the router or it doesn't work at all? Is the IEM 2.4g or 5g?

    how is each individual monitor mixed? thanks

    • @MikeBabsBC
      @MikeBabsBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's easy since there is only 2 monitors. I have control over each of them individually by sending a left and right bus signal out of the XR12 to the powered monitor mixer, then splits left/right to each monitor speaker (this can be simplified by using powered monitor speakers so you don't need that powered mixer).
      Then in the XR12 app I control what goes through each monitor.

      Each one of the inputs is a MONO input, but you can get a simple splitter cable so you have separate left and right inputs. Then in the app, you can link those 2 channels together as a stereo pair, so adjusting 1 track also adjusts the other equally. Hope that answered your question.
