The reasons why the designs differ so greatly between each of the characters has to with the official legos out at the time, rights issues, and what was the most popular version. For the Avengers cast it was a no brainer to use there movie designs cause not only was the film a financial and critical success but also because lego had already made mini figures based on the film counter parts. There were the classic mini figure variants released at the time that were also included for characters like Thor, but since the movie was where the majority of audiences knew the characters from, it was a safe bet to use the film suits. For characters like X-Men and the Fantastic Four, they were owned by Fox so none of the film designs could be used. The only X-Men characters that had mini figures at the time were Wolverine, Magneto, and Deadpool. Those mini figures designs harkened back to the 90's Jim Lee era of X-Men which were basically the designs used in the Fox 90's animated series, so it seems like a no brainer that the rest of the X-Men cast would follow that design philosophy. As for the Fantastic Four, they had no mini figures and the movies designs were under lock and key at FOX so using the classic designs, in line with the Doctor Doom mini figure seemed natural. For Spider-Man he used the newly issued mini figure design based on the Ultimate tv show on Disney XD at the time, and since his design was mostly classic it seemed like a no brainer that the rest of his supporting cast should follow suit. As for the rest of the cast, the Ultimate comics were more recent at the time and more popular and the characters that appeared in the movies but didn't have a mini figure were given their movie counter parts designs to fit with the other MCU characters.
@@ntmaproductions If I had my way I'ed have all the characters in their classic uniforms most associated with them throughout the main campaign. As a reward for those that unlock their alternate suits, you could play the campaign again with all the heroes and villains dressed in any alternate costume of your choosing, like your playing the game in the different eras of Marvel.
