With the long handguard, how is the fit with a Rotex V muzzle device (Clawgear brake/flash hider/compensator in combination with a BT Rotex V suppressor or BT blast deflector) or Clawgear linear compensator? Will the handguard have enough clearing for such devices?

Do you need to remove the handguard retainer to install this?

No, but if it has the sling ring on the left side, you'll need to cut it off for the medium model. The retainer itself is needed for the install.
