    Amazing! My dad use to say you can play and enjoy music your whole life. With his clear and precise sharing of his vast knowledge Fishman truly enhances this process.

    At my level of learning the Jazz vocab, this is possibly the best instructional video I've seen. Practical formula for melodic phrasing, absolutely invaluable. How about one in this excellent format on a Dominant 7 ? Perhaps a similar rule exists to get that 'out' sound that gives the music its colours.......did I say, great work Greg?!

    This is a V7b9 - 1m, as he mentions. You could also do flat 2 dominant 7 (tritone sub). Just watch the voice leading.

    Appreciate the map! Learning these licks and such for me can be likened to that first time you drive to a friend's place. First time going will lightly refer to the map/directions as a guide, but next time I drive over it's not really needed. After that, visiting said friend is usually via a more scenic route, discovering cool pit stops and whatnot, maybe even finding a shortcut or two. Always seem to end up taking the long way home though; for some reason... guess maybe you can blame Supertramp lol.

    help! can anyone clarify a b dimished is flat3 flat5 and a flat FLAT 7?

    • @WhodiKalecgos
      @WhodiKalecgos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct. If you look at the fingering of the last note he's playing an Ab. I had to look it up myself because I confused B diminished (B D F Ab) with B half-diminished (B D F A).

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216
      @aboveaveragebayleaf9216 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A fully diminished 7th chord is b3 b5 and bb7 (double flat 7)
      It is a symetrical stack of minor thirds and there are only 3 of them. Every note can be the root depending on the context. Another way to thing about it is a dominant 7 with a raised root.

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216
      @aboveaveragebayleaf9216 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      * think about it as. Damn auto correct.

      I've been using this for a few years now. It is very useful. I call it the b9 chord for short. Works in the relative major also. What it made me realize was that weaving between the tonic and the dominant, is always cool, no matter when.
