Almost everyone top billed in this movie are either gone or don't act or too old or something like that. Except one name.... Amitabh Bachchan... Wow. Born Inquilab Srivastava but what an enviable life. Height, Weight, Face, Voice, Acting, Charm, Charisma etc.... No one can compare. Been acting since 1968 or so - 54 years and counting! Still commands respect and adulation of fans worldwide. Even his son who is a carbon copy has none of the main ingredients of charm or charisma or acting and has been basically a dud compared to his dad. Shocking but you just cannot copy Amitabh Bachchan. Real McCoy. What a life he has had thus far! Shaan indeed !
This film Shaan was publicised on posters in 1980 as "The Greatest Show On Earth". But this turned out to be the biggest debacle of the year. With great difficulty the film could recover barely a faint little more than it's cost. It was made at a cost of roughly 5 crores, then an astronomical sum. The reason, Ramesh Sippy argued is that the audience expected another classic like "Sholay", which was a cult way back in 1975. And rightly so. In comparison to Sholay, this film Shaan doesn't have a stunning villain like Gabbar Singh. Shakaal appears like a cat in comparison to a ferocious tiger like Gabbar. In fact none of the characters have good dialogues; whereas each dialogue in Sholay was great. However, Shaan is a well made good film having fantastic songs, great performances, costly sets, a James Bondish gadget- equipped villain even though it didn't meet the public expectations. But overall an extremely enjoyable film. So folks, what are you waiting for ? Watch it and ENJOY !!!

Amitabh fight scene 2:14:08.. after smashing the bottle on that man's head, the whole view of the bar is shown from top, that fan swings with only one leaf, amitabh looks everywhere around and then leaves.. it has a perfect background music.. that scene is missing from all of the prints available.. #NHstudioz can you restore that iconic scene ?

Here are some of the scenes from top of my head, the starting intro Dosto Se Pyar Kiya the characters cut scenes are missing. Amithabh and Shahi kapoor spend longer in the car talking about their plan when robbing from the hotel manager, naam Abdul mera is cut, the whole sketch with the scam as they are dressed as Sadhus is cut. SHATRUGHAN sinhas back story is cut short, the fight when amithabh goes to avenge Abdul death cut short, there is a whole scene with Shahi Kapoor and abindiya Goswami before it cuts to Amithabh Bachcgan and Parveen Babi before the one Janu Meria Jaan is missing, the song Janu Meria Jaan is cut short they don't show them on an elephant in the song and taking the bike. Before Shateughan Sinha and Rakhee are attacked there isa long scene where Shatrughan Sinha sees Rakhee picking up her daughter and he is trying to give hera lift and then you see shakaals men follow them. The end fight is cut short when they are caught after Yamma Yamma song, And there is loads more. But those are just from top of my head.

Sholay plot was thin but it ran due to extra characters associated with thakur n gabbar. But shaan had no memorable character so it flopped
