    I do top fuel hoops on my kitchen table with the BHJ tool. I dont do the block on the table, just the heads. I do the block at the shop. You can order hoops from Visner racing for about $30 each. The tool from BHJ is kinda expensive at $2600 but ive done a bunch of hoops so its paid for itself already.

    I'm glad to see you get this done finally. This is what Steve Morris does Top Fuel and did to my buddy's aluminum and steel block engines and Scott PAR Racing Engines did the big top fuel hoops to my Brodix Bbc water block, and this is the best method right here and this way holds all the boost you can throw at it.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree!! Morris also uses a torrington bearing in the thrust of his SMX and SML engines.

    • @jasonstormoen
      @jasonstormoen ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @danmyers9372 Correct! And I wasn't taking anything away from TKM and their work either. Steve does on the sbc and bbc too just like Scott at PAR if you want it done. I think John just meant he didn't know anyone else or anyone else close to him who does it because I'm in Western NC, now and Scott is straight south of me in SC, one hr so that would be like 5 hours for John.

      @@jasonstormoen Pat Musi and and most of the high end shops in Moorseville NC does it too. Its not really discussed much but it is out there

    • @jasonstormoen
      @jasonstormoen ปีที่แล้ว

      @garykarenmcgruther6386 you're right! It has gotten more popular this past few years. just didn't want to say a bunch of shops. I live in the 828 Asheville now and started using Scott and crew at PAR since really good, dependable, and close, but I've seen Pat, Buck, and a few others do it. It is definitely the best way of doing it. There are still a lot of shops doing it the old-school way of just an o-ring that's thinner and not a solid wire like top fuel or flame hoop.

    Now that was cool. Ha boost pressure over the years had me reminiscing. I remember fondly the first time I took a good precision turbo past 30 psi, changed my world. Life begins at 30psi.

    I had a motor done at Tkm. It was perfect. I recently had another block done at a shop here in Ohio and it's horrible. Next one will definitely go back to Kevin.

    By golly, that's right about iron sleeves DROPPING in the bores of aluminum blocks!!! I experienced this very same problem with an old 40 hp Evinrude outboard motor 21 years ago!!! ( aluminum block with 2 cast iron sleeves ) 1 of it's 2 sleeves dropped ever so slightly, you could barely detect it with your fingernail, and I couldn't keep a head gasket on that little motor to save my life. It ran great otherwise. It needed to be totally re-sleeved and rebuilt. Little old motor wasn't even worth it, so I installed 1 last head gasket & immediately traded it in ( along with the boat ) for a brand new, bigger, better boat/motor/trailer, lol. But I never gave this any thought when it came to aluminum blocks for drag racers..........until now.

    Great move John! Glad to see some of your recent winnings going into something other than your RV! 😂. Curious if your block has already been upgraded with 1/2” head studs or are you still running 7/16”?

  • @jtcoker2684
    @jtcoker2684 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Man it’s hard for me to believe that you put that kind of power thru that motor without the top fuel hoops and it lived!you should be able to cram the boost to it after this! Good luck man, hope you win them all

    If you got them rear bouji sbc heads you got to take the spring off to re- torque the studs

      They still have o-rings but that's the old way of doing it. Only a few places to the big top fuel hoop that will hold 80 lb boost.

    What is the price of a top fuel machining? I've been thinking about getting it done to my block

    • @quintongreene3652
      @quintongreene3652 ปีที่แล้ว

      Top fuel hoops have to do the heads and block. Mini hoops is just the block.
