A few reasons Pettersson to Detroit won't happen and doesn't make sense. Detroit doesn't have pieces to make a " hockey trade " and I don't see Vancouver wanting picks and prospects ( plus a middling roster player copp/compher to make salary work ) Yzerman has patiently drafted and developed, can't see him all the sudden moving a couple premium prospects now. Lastly, its clear that Yzerman has established a salary hierarchy, Larkin, the captain at 8.7 mil, seider locked in just under 8.5 mil and Raymond a tick over 8 mil. Bringing Pettersson and his 11.6 mil salary into the locker room is just asking for friction.

If he doesn’t have a long term contract by the deadline, he’s gonna file for arbitration and NHL teams want no part of high-end players going to arbitration, because they’ll take their award and walk to free agency. So they have a big decision to make. Same with Rangers and K-Andre Miller. He has Arbitration rights this summer. So no bridge deals are happening. Miller isn’t as much of a concern as Byrum would be, but his trade value starts going down when he gets to arbitration, because he can start pushing for trades to specific teams. Ask Ottawa what happened with Debrincat. Byram gains all control over his future if he gets to arbitration. The fact we haven’t heard anything about a long term contract?? Isn’t good news for the Sabres.

Cozens to DET would make sense, but doubt Sabres trade him in division.. or else Toronto and Montreal would make sense too
