Found myself kind of a mess after something that happened today. I'm laying down listening to this and it is doing wonders for my mind. Thanks for posting.
I play this piece since 1 year, but everytime I try to record me playing it I can't play it as well than when I'm playing it only for myself ! :( I agree, that's my prefered one from Dustin and he's the composer I prefer to play. You can have a look to my Opus 36 recordings if you want.
whilst there's no doubt dustin can produce a great sound, most of his music lacks complexity and depth. Simply varying and altering the same chords and melodies isn't enough. most of his better compositions involve other instruments and his best is when his style shines through in a collaboration. i can't say i'm a fan of this particular piece
MrLimeMaster As a fellow musician, I actually prefer simplicity to complexity. Granted, I do love complex orchestral music, especially when I am a part of and in the middle of that orchestra. However, Dustin is extremely good with putting for EMOTION into his music. His dynamics and pacing are really superb, especially for a piano. If you close your eyes, listen, and try not to analyze it, you can hear the story he is trying to tell. If things are more complex, they can sometimes hide the true meaning behind it. Like a distraction almost. That is what is so great about music. The emotion in a song can completely change the meaning. That is the difference between good musicians and great musicians. I am personally bad trying to explain my feelings or emotions. But through music, one can truly explain what they are feeling all by the emotion. When music is simple. Its out there in the open for all to see and for all to feel. Its bare bones so to speak. Naked. Thats when you can truly see it for what it really is and the meaning of the emotion behind the music.
can't say i agree with how you say emotion in simple music is easier to feel. the only reason complex music could hide emotion is if it's just not a good piece. i'm a far more technical kinda guy and appreciate complex music much more than this sort of style. complex music you can listen to over and over again and still find new sounds and side melodies. music can definitely be too complex though. "Naked" music as you call it, just doesn't carry enough weight for me to care about the story it's supposedly telling. analyzing the sounds and depth is just how I personally appreciate music. i'm not really into the story of it. but that's just personal preference.
MrLimeMaster I agree with what you just said there. Idk. It kind of all depends on the piece. I know if I'm trying to be in a calm state, working on a project, or just trying to relax, I love simple music. Especially piano. There are definitely some very complex orchestral pieces, like you said, that always have hidden sounds you don't hear the first time. It makes them interesting and makes the song last. Like I said, It all kind of depends on the song and what your'e wanting out of it at the time.
I think Dustin O' Halloran is the best piano cmpser in modern day i hope his beautiful master pieces are very special
