I never understood the runnin and gunnin bit until I had a gig I had to get my band to, and they were just sittin around instead of loading up. So I said WE NEED TO GO!!!! And it worked
"Know your ride cymbal". That's EXACTLY how you get the gig. Elvin Jones always had conversations with people thru his ride. Like if he was pissed off at his woman, you knew about it. He told stories with his drumming. It's story telling as much as it is art.
Dave, I've been following the rational funk series since day one and I want to say that this is my favorite episode of them all. You're true playing as an improviser really comes out in this video. I look forward to the next 😊
i cant talk and play drums at the same time, except if i match the cadence with rhythm i'm playing in. similar to how you just did.. i don't know who i'm writing this for, but now in the back of my head i'm playing a drum beat to the syllables as i'm typing, so theres that
3:59 I play Metal, but I own more ride cymbals than other cymbals combined... I hate both (yes both) of my Dark Energy Mk1's. I know where they stick best though. To my Metal friends: The Meinl Byzance HH 22" is good, but get you a Serpents ride. It has a beast of a bell with more versatility. Or get you Reign ride... idk...
Dave we love your vid's But why do you subject us to this annoying intro.??? do you think we enjoy listening to that crappy music you chose and witnessing you running down the alley over and over again with your dad??? ( no disrespect to your dad btw.)--- and yes I'm fully aware that I can fast forward the film but why have you made it so that I have to??
i've stopped wasting money with my therapist every week because i know Dave is just gonna cover it eventually
This is the best episode you've done
Indeed!
I never understood the runnin and gunnin bit until I had a gig I had to get my band to, and they were just sittin around instead of loading up. So I said WE NEED TO GO!!!! And it worked
:D
From Rick Beato to Julian Lage to this crazy drummer. That improvisation was brilliant!
Always good to see Ron Miles
"that's fun" - man so much honesty in that little smile

Drum instruction on Rational Funk?? Might take some getting used to, but I'm in.
That monologue was a series high point. Touche Mr King, Touche.

That ending was hilariously true.
The end is so good!
We don't know that we can't touch the bottom in the waters that you swim in Dave. Please continue to guide us.
Best episode yet, Dave.
The only drummer whose 10 seconds of playing makes me wanna go sit behind my kit and play the hell out of it!
LOL!!! I almost shat in my pants from that monologue!
Damn that hit the spot
"Don't binge watch television anymore....sit with your goddamned cymbals...."

The punch line was awesome!!!! and I suspect has a lot of truth! Thanks for this EP.. so funny.
lovely ride
That was brilliant.
I like the setup of your kit, I think I'm going to go for that look.
Your killing it dave!
Found this to be even more informative for the bass drum over the ride cymbal.
This shit is awesome. Thank you so much. I can't wait for the next one.
Pure gold!

This episode was lousy in comparison with the rest!
Well 2 minutes in, and all I’ve seen is wanna be commercial director action and no relevant content whatsoever. Real cute stuff.
