Greetings from Taipei, Taiwan 🇹🇼! Tim, on Joanne Kaminski’s TH-cam channel today, she talked about problems with using PayPal for payments from China 🇨🇳. Have you heard anything about this?
Joanne doesn't have students from China, is it someone else? No I don't use paypal for Chinese students. I use my Stripe business account and they pay via WeChat Pay. No problems.
@@onlineteacherdude1284 She’s talking about a big problem that affects folks collectively, not her in particular. If you have some time to watch, you might say “WOW!” so loud that I hear 👂 you here in Taiwan 🇹🇼. She got my attention
Do you still need to remove that parts of your website that are a problem in China if you integrate WeChat and Alipay to your stripe account linked to your website? Or does that eliminate this problem if you don’t necessarily need your site viewable in China and are just trying to get paid from there?
You need to make sure your site is viewable in China, yes. Keep the site simple without plugins or anything attached to Google, that is one thing to keep in mind. If you have a site, you can test it out in China by using some websites that test out sites with Chinese servers.
Do you think transfer wise card/account would work? More importantly...HOW to advertise? In the verge of sending current students (from a corporate Chinese company) my WeChat details, but won't they get into trouble ?
The best way for you to add your students on wechat is to ask the parents to add you. It only takes 2 seconds. They will give you their QR code and you just scan it. Are we suppose to do this? Of course not! Should we care given the current situation? hell no! Just do it!
Transferwise is not a preferred method of payment in China. Is it possible? Perhaps but the parents would have to really work to get it figured out. That's why a Stripe integration is the better way.
I think there are 3 factors. The % that stripe charges him, the website hosting % and his service %, so he has rounded them to 5-6% depending on the amount. If you contact him directly, he can explain further.
Can you set up a business entity in SA? In the US it's called an EIN number. If so, a service called Nihaopay might be an option. There are some companies that do curriculum like Crystal Clear and Koala Go that will receive payments on your behalf and send to your bank account.
Sure, you can leverage your existing network of students, or you can use Chinese social media, like Xiaohongshu - I did a video interview with a teacher using this.
Thank you for your video, I am interested in the solution Yoshua offers, how Can in get in contact with him? I went to his website but there’s no where to click. Could you help contact him please?
Hi there- Yoshua isn't accepting clients anymore. If you have Stripe, its easy to get WeChat pay integrated and invoice your parents directly. I made a video on how to do this.
China teaching online by all foreign teachers who reside outside China is clearly ending completely by law. As you well know there are hundreds of thousands of teachers and not one of them is paying tax to China. Those who take continue to do backroom deals and try to create their own online tutoring business will be quashed as quick as Whales and GogoKid and their customers (local Chinese citizens) may face worse sanctions in by their own government. VipKid will likely announce they are closing up shop too probably by end of August and maybe they will continue with adult classes but again only taught by local Chinese English speakers or foreigners who reside in China. Same as the others. So for the ambitious few teachers with degrees and other qualifications, if you want to go to China...it'll be a lucrative time for you and it'll be the only way you can continue with Chinese students. The rest of you can fight for scrap pay among other nations.
Thans for sharing. I disagree on the independent teaching though. Been doing it for years and won't be stopping. VIPKid is still going strong until the end...whenever that is but its not my only source of income and shouldn't be anyone's at this point. Time to go out on your own!
