Ray Harryhausen deserved way more oscars. J&tA SFX are still great 60 years later.
I remember when everyone looked forward to the Oscars. People would throw parties, do Oscar predictions, fun times.

I saw the scenes for the 7th Voyage of Sinbad on tv which was playing already in the middle I loved the Cyclops scene I did not know the title of the film at that time I was pretty young. Years later seeing this award scene and showing those scenes made me remember the title and I finally saw the film after renting it (Days when video rental was still possible) later the saw other movies he did and these films show the true effects were like. In retrospect the effects of Ray Harryhausen will always beat any of the current CGI stuff they show now a days.

A true Titan of filmmaking!
When I was younger , really young ...I seen The 7th voyage of Sinbad at the cinema , and wow I was amazed, it was awesome .A few years went by and I went to see The golden voyage of sinbad when I was about 10 , and subsequently Sinbad and the eye of the tiger and just totally loved these movies. I noticed a common theme in the movies , it was a name in the beginning or end Credits ... Ray Harryhausen ...so as I got a bit older , and watched the movies at Christmas or whenever , I started to join the dots and go Check out all movies associated with the great mans name. Mysterious island, The beast from 20,000 fathoms, The valley of Gwangi , Jason and the Argonauts and clash of the titans , to name but a few.
Over the years I collected them all , as lots of others did and now and then I still put on a movie to jump back into my childhood and I am still amazed and captivated as I was back then. Even today at 54 I was recently watching Jason and the Argonauts , and my wee boy came into the room,who’s 11 and watched a bit with me , i have to say it didn’t hold his attention like it did mine and I was a wee bit disappointed went he got up and left the room , he’s brainwashed with Guardians of the galaxy, CGI and Harry Potter!.... but I know where the real movie magic is, and it’s all thanks to ray and his fantastic creatures. Thanks for a million memories .
As a footnote I’m going to see Rays creatures in real life in Edinburgh soon at an exhibition , can’t wait. Unfortunately my son didn’t want to go !

Ray Harryhausen, what an absolute legend. The man who influenced and inspired many generations of filmmakers like George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, Wes Anderson, Nick Park, Peter Lord, and so many others.
Holy shit. The Oscar's didn't even have him there on "Oscar" night? They held it the week before...
What a joke Hollywood is
We going to laugh at the irony that Ray Bradbury presented the award to Harryhausen considering Beast from 20,000 Fathoms had the lighthouse scene lifted directly from a Bradbury short story? No? K.
Didn't know that. Now I want to watch the movie.
Where's the irony? Harryhausen and Bradbury were longtime friends and career collaborators. It wasn't 'lifted', as such. The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was literally based on Bradbury's short story, built and developed around it, with Bradbury's enthusiastic approval. Who wouldn't want to see their short story put on the big screen?
Ignored too many years! the guy is a legend and finally got he should have. Jim Danforth has 2 and maybe David Allen just as good but followers non the less. Great stop-motion guys! Willis H. O'Brien (O'Bie) same thing only got won and the one he won was not for his groundbreaking stop-motion in The Lost World '25 an King Kong '33.
*Big* was released in *1988* , not *1992* . I'm confused.

Those pricks at the Academy were playing music to usher him along just as he received it? This man should have won for achievement in visual effects many times, and he knows it. Especially for the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, and Jason and the Argonauts. I personally thought The Valley of Gwangi was one of his greatest creations as well. But he just gets an honorary Oscar. And to my knowledge according to what I see here, they didn't let him speak...at all. Just my take. I could be wrong. But if I'm right, these creeps are real bastards.
You are wrong. The music was added later for the main Oscar broadcast.
