Nice video, well explained! One small addition: A fly line matching to transport (drive) a heavy fly isn't over weighted. It's matching! What may not match then is the line class being recommended for the rod (labeled on the rod). I match my fly line to the flies and fishing. Then I need a rod matching these three (fly line, flies and fishing). Problem starts when people buy a rod first. They then try to match the line to it only to then have trouble throwing the flies needed or spooking all fish by a too heavy line. Bottom line: Start with the fish and end with rod and reel. Flies, leader, fly line are in between. Priority goes fish to reel.

Thanks for the comment Bernd. Thats why we clearly state the weight as true to weight, half, 3/4, full heavy etc when purchasing.

This is by far the most informative video on fly lines , so many times people grab a line off the store rack without the knowledge of what they will do , I fish mainly salt water now , we throw a lot bigger and heavier flies and now I have the understanding to upgrade my lines , thanks for posting a great video 👍🏼

    Nice vid with info.
So you can help me to make a choice for the right line.
    Help me please.
    I'm looking for a line rod=Scott 9 foot 7#.
I use this most of the time for big perch, pike and aspius.
Sometimes I fish for sea trout and seabags.
What line do you have in mind for me?
    With regards and tight lines,
    Greetings from The Netherlands.

Do how long is a short taper head , and does it help for distance? I’ve got a 4-5 wt Berkeley 8’ graphite rod , the action on the rod is really stiff I’ve got a 6 wt fwd tropical scientific bone fish line on it and it casts good would a short wt fwd be better, ?
