Let's break down what has changed in Christmas decor in the last few years. I love analyzing this because it gives us new ways to spice up our old Christmas decor and make it feel newer. Let me know what are your favorites and what you would add to this list!
I am noticing a greater connection to the natural world which works well with Christmas trees and garlands. I see a lot of green everywhere. Dark green velvet fabrics and green painted wood furniture have taken over red and white. Christmas seems quieter and calmer which for me blends perfectly with the long nights of Winter and to the religious aspect of Christmas. I would like to make a few terrariums this Christmas season. It seems a good way to bring in some of nature and the creative process would be almost meditative.
In my mid60’s now, I want my childhood Christmas. I imagine most who had a happy Christmas memory enjoy recreating it. The antique silver pompom trees are ridiculously expensive, so a modern cousin copy helps satisfy that wish. Even purchased a turn color wheel to cast colors on the tree.
Lots of great ideas. I have always used stockings as decor. In fact, I never have a wreath in my front door... I have a beautiful velvet stocking stuffed with batting inside. I put greens, twigs, soft old fashioned handmade candy canes, a few dangle jingle bells. I love that its different .
Thank you defending(?) the idea of new items. It is difficult for some people to decorate an entire home with found objects. And ribbons are timeless, less expensive, vintage looking, and reminiscent of yesteryear. Great ideas! AS USUAL! Setting 100K records for a very good reason! Very thoughtful and inclusive presentation.
Sarah, you're spot on! Nothing like adding a few trends to one's traditional decor. I personally enjoy adding a Nativity scene on my mantel, plus a tiny one in my dining room. Those silky ribbons you have are so beautiful and something easily changed out from year to year. I am seeing more of the Woodland Theme tree with naturally dried elements, plus faux birds, sprayed gold walnuts...
I love the Little Women trend. I basically only decorated with greenery, bells, ribbon, and winter clothing this Christmas and I love how it looks. Also, I would love to be entered in Kristin’s giveaway!
Thank you for sharing all your Christmas ideals. I’m from California.. it’s always so nice to see so much beauty else where. 🎄 Lived all your ideals. 🤗
Huh. I’ve done a table top tree in the corner of my dining room the past couple of years on a small round low accent table and then I filled under it with a bunch of different levels of battery pillar candles on timers. It looks lovely in the evening. The only thing on that tree is white lights, preserved maple and oak leaves I laid on the branches here and there that I made with water and glycerin, and glass icicles. I leave it up through till end of end of January. It’s my winter tree. My big tree I used a whole bunch of dried hydrangeas and more icicles.
I followed your advice and used my existing collection of Christmas deco which happens to be vintage 1950. I styled it using current trends including off center mantles, tapper candles, lots of pine with mixed greens, wonderful stockings and plenty of velvet ribbon. Imagine lots of red and gold, table top trees with sweet old Santas, homemade wooden villages and ginger bread. Fuzzy warm blankets over chairs, small evergreen wreaths, bottle brush trees, nutcrackers, deep woods swags over hutches and windows with red berries, pine cones and holly. Attempting to combine the quintessential 1950s nostalgia with the new design trends made my home feel fresh and fun.
Ohh I love it all. Ribbon is probably my favorite “trendy thing as it’s being used” as I find it simple yet elegant and just enough ❤️. I recently visited a Victorian mansion decorated for Christmas, amazing and it had 90% of the original furniture/upholstery/rugs and curtains.., total eye opener and really lovely. I recently looked into authentic magazine articles from 1880s advising women how to decorate a tree and I hoping to incorporate many of that next year
I really enjoy a simplified Christmas and moving away from strictly red & green, if done tastefully. please include me in the Art Giveaway. So generous of you. Happy decorating!
Love all the ideas of Christmas decor that you have given to each of us. I love the ideas of all the ribbon ideas. I would love to be in the drawing for some Artwork. Thank You Sarah. 🌲🌲🌲
I’m 59, an interior decorator who believes decorating should tell a story. Such as inherited items, things collected over the years, things people gave you, people who’ve passed away even. I basically hate trends. Yuk yuk yuk, trends makes it so everything looks like everyone else’s now…..with THAT SAID, since I’ve been married almost 40years, I’ve become tired of the blues I’ve always used…..I’m BACK to traditional reds for Christmas, but mostly I’m focusing on nativities because JESUS IS THE REASON christmas even exists. But, As far as style, mines ALWAYS been Victorian and people thought I was weird, and now it’s ‘popular. My house is a3300sq ft Victorian but built in 2000. It’s exterior has gingerbread bread trim and siding a,ongwoth the spindle rails on front and rear porches. I’ve got dark woodwork around doors and windows. This house sits amoungst towering fir trees so I feel like there’s way more than enough greenery outdoors, and I’ve got large picture windows to look out and see the deer, squirreLs, raccoons etc. and yes, they’re a nuisance, lol! God, the creator, created you in his image, which means spirit, and therefor we’re all creative;however some more than others!!!!
Always wonderful information!! I'm using alot of mercury glass and soft mint green ribbon. I'm allergic to most types of fresh trees, so still doing beautiful artificial trees, currently 5 large, 3 smaller and 1 using only framed prints of my grandchildren. Oh, and ironically using more candles this year!! Happy Holidays to you and your family!! And congratulations on reaching the new number of subscribers!!!
Loved this video. Christmas is my favorite time of year. The lights, glittering decorations, family, and gift giving all brighten the dreary, gray days of winter. 🎄❤️🎄 Watching the trends is always fun and inspiring!
I LOVE the vintage, dark academia. I would love to be part of the giveaway. Thank you! Can you give us more about this “lifestyle decorating?” Love this idea.
I've been using ribbons for over twenty years for Christmas decorating. They can really change the look of your decorations and greenery. So versatile and beautiful.
Love this video! I starting following both you and Krysta this season and have been binge watching 😊. I would love to be entered into the artwork giveaway! I love the idea of changing it out for the seasons. The velvet ribbons and bells are my favorite. Thank you for all the inspiration. I am so glad I found your channel.
*Art Work* . I'm so grateful to you for introducing Meeker Home and DIY, I am subscribed and enjoy her content. I enjoy a very earthy and gathered rustic vibe for Winter decorating. I build my stash with after season finds.
Yes please to art give away! Such a lovely gesture - thank you. I also appreciated your encouragement to add more stockings, just because we love them. Breaking through the “shoulds ” of decorating is so essential to creating a home that reflects real life instead of replicas of magazine pages. Lovely video, as always. ❤🎄❤
Not necessary to enter me in anything. But, I do like the dried orange slices. I may try my hand at drying some this year. I have strung popcorn and cranberries many years ago and made fabric ornaments when our children were babies and toddlers. And our tree was 2 ft silver tree from Grants 5 and 10. We couldn't afford much but I could sew and still do. I have never done garlands, so those are on my list for collecting for my small front porch. I have been given so many cast off Christmas decorations over the years and collected crochet snowflakes and all manor of icicles. From Dollar Tree. Walmart and craft stores that I decorated my 2&1/2 foot green artificial tree with just those with white lights on top of a round table. I used a white table cloth under my grandma's old lace table cloth for the skirt. And I do have my crochet angel on top. Something else I do and have done for years is save all my Christmas card that were sent to us/me and frame the Nativity story and placed in gold frames. And those are place on a prominent place. Over the years I have done Santa Clause themes the same way. As well as others. I am keeping it simple this tree. But I have gone over the top with lights and multiple trees inside and out flaking the front door. I thift as much as I can and nothing is matchy, but I love how having some new and older pieces pulled together looks. Anyway, I find your channel wonderful and inspiring. Thank you.
I love all the trends... I can't pick a favorite... I tend to stay with my favorites every year and add a little something new to keep it fresh each year. And..... YES... I would love help with decorating a space in my home. Sign me up!!

I inadvertently followed so many trends this year 😂 though I have been doing some of them for awhile. My mantel garland is always asymmetrical; it just looks better! I used dried hydrangeas in all of my garlands, wreaths, and two trees this year; honestly thought this was my idea 😂 but I must’ve seen it somewhere. I was so inspired by your exterior door garland that I bought a $5 garland at Joanns and filled it with fir and pine branches, pine cones, and dried hydrangeas- all from my yard- and hung it asymmetrically over my front door. It looks amazing and was nearly free! Thank you for all the great ideas you’ve given me over the last few years. My house is finally looking the way I never knew I always wanted it to be ❤
I love them all but I’m going to have to go with RIBBON! There are so many beautiful ribbons out there and so many ways to use them! Thanks for the video. Your house looks lovely!🎄
Thank you to Krysta for the giveaway - that’s so nice of her. Please enter me. I have just come across her channel in the last few months and really love it. She does beautiful work. I absolutely loved what she did with her a little boy’s room. So gorgeous. Loved this video, Sarah. I have been sensing a move towards simplicity this year in a lot of the decor videos and posts by the folks I follow on TH-cam and elsewhere. And kind of the old-fashioned way. I am definitely keeping things a little simpler and doing the old fashioned thing this year, too. Which I tend to anyway. But I’m keeping the volume down, so to speak. And definitely using more of what I have. Just a simpler year. I’m having a ball with orange slices and candles on the tree. Lol. Thank you for another beautiful video! 🙏🏻❤️
Yes to the artwork giveaway! I enjoy watching Krysta Meeker's channel. Great pairing of the two of you. Thank you both for sharing such awesome inspirational videos.
Yes, I would love to be entered in the art giveaway! I love all those elements you discussed. I keep collecting bells of all sorts. Love the velvet ribbon. Adding vintage ornaments to my collection that I pick up at estate sales! Thanks does the lovely video, Sarah! ❤ ( I have had a table top tree for years that I put up on my foyer table.)
I follow Krysta's channel, too! I've always decorated my 1921 Midwest bungalow in a darker palette with inherited pieces and have struggled with the modernist decor channels. Finding you, Krysta and the Little Blue Fly has been a delight. Seeing an elevated version of my personal style has been inspiring and affirming. I would love to add something from Krysta's gallery to my decor.
Vintage/Victorian has always been my style!! Never cared what other people liked, and I enjoyed whatever they had, but mine has been the same my whole life!! Pretty sure it won't change now!! I'm 63!!
Love love your Christmas ball bedroom & Santa’s desk! Please enter me in the Krista Meeker giveaway. Thank you for all you do & congratulations on 100,000 viewers.
Agreed! I actually have all of these already incorporated in my decor. I dont follow trends , I just do what i like. Ive always favored a simple old fashioned vibe so im on trend without even trying..😊
Thank you for sharing your wonderful and delightful ideas! I think this video offered a wide variety of ideas for your viewers! Yes, please enter me in the giveaway! Sounds very exciting!
Your home decor is so beautifully inspiring. I enjoy changing things up every year. Really like the trees, the wide branching and the simplicity of fewer decorations. Exactly what our tree looks like this holiday season. Thank you so much for inspiring us to create beautiful and peaceful homes! 💕🌲🏠
I brought out my grandmother's teapot and have been using teacups for my tea. The vintage nostalgia of it warms my heart and I love using these pieces that have such history and love. Thank you. xo
Your home looks so beautiful with the addition of the Victorian and Edwardian styles 🎄 Thank you for all your wonderful styling ideas for Christmas 🎅🏻 You are such an inspiration!
Ribbons on every tree for sure. I used a ton of ribbons last year on mirrors, mantels, and doors. This year I am decorating more with candles, small twinkle lights placed around my house on small table trees and I bought my first ever green garland.
I absolutely love all these trends. Totally my vibe and what I’m doing!!! As well would love to have a piece of Kristin’s Art giveaway!! You are both just amazing!
CONGRATULATIONS ON OVER THE 100K!! WELL DESERVED! OOH how I love Yours & Kristen's channel! Be still my heart!! I would LOVE to be in her art giveaway! What an amazing opportunity! Thank you both for a chance!! Such a beautiful room you did using the William Morris inspiration. You're so right as far as trends go...they're inspiring to us to think outside the box. Love using my ribbons and changing the colors make the biggest yet simplest change. I ABSOLUTELY have fallen in love with the Victorian/Edwardian style of everything!! I'm so inspired by you & Kristen's page. One day hopefully I will get the look down and be happy again in my space. Been stuck for awhile on just how to transition (I think bc I love to many styles...😂 from moody, cottage, Victorian, academia to everyday simplicity lol) wishing you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
Krysta is so sweet! I would love to be in her giveaway, all of her artwork is so classy and timeless! Also, I love that you have made a video about this! Using what you have in a trendy way is a priceless skill.
Yes I would love the art giveaway! I love all these ideas. Hard to choose between them. We love our random collection of ornaments, for sure. Asymmetry and candles are going on at our house!
I would love to be included in the art give away. I moved into our new home last February and we spent six months concentrating on getting the outside buttoned up. New siding, windows, gutters, and roof. Now it's time to tackle the inside! I love your dark, moody design!
Yes, please enter me in the giveaways. Thanks! I saw those taper candles on another channel, and I love them!! I haven't bought any yet, but plan to do so. Thank you for sharing all that you do. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Thank you for all of your beautiful videos and decor Ideas! I have been watching both you and Krysta for quite awhile and love you both. I would love to be entered into the art drawing! I just moved into a new home and would love some new artwork. Thanks again!
My home is 99 percent re~loved items and furniture, I prefer antique, thrift shops, than box stores, but I do mix new with old, and have more of an Edwardian~Victorian~dark academia look to my home..you go girls, DO WHAT YOU LOVE,AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO!
Love your decorations. It reminds me of slowing down and enjoying life and Christmas time. I would love to be entered into the drawing for the artwork.
I’d LOVE to be entered in the art giveaway with Krista! I watch her videos over and over! (along with yours lol!) I used her last year’s Christmas decor style in my home this year lol, I’m just waiting for her to finish her Charles Dickens Christmas theme this year so I can get some ideas for next year! Got a lot of ideas from yours as well! Thanks for all the awesome videos!
I would love to be entered in the art giveaway of your friend Christy ! Again Congratulations on the 100 k ! I remember your beginning, and when you passed 40 k….
I follow both you and Krista, Sarah, and would love to be entered into Krista’s giveaway too. I love her art collection. Been stuck for awhile on just how to transition (I think bc I love to many styles...😂 from moody, cottage, Victorian, academia to everyday simplicity lol) wishing you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
