  • Big Oak Campground at New Melones Lake in the Western Sierra Foothills is a Travel Small Live Big Campground Favorite! This beautiful lakeside campground is perfect for tents or RVs. The lake offers fishing, hiking, sailing, houseboating, water skiing, boat rentals and fabulous camping! The views from the campsites are amazing ~ wildlife, sunrises & sunsets. The campground is located within the Glory Hole Recreation area not far from the historic gold towns of Angels Camp and Sonora. There are beautiful day use areas, a marina, a second adjacent campground ~ Ironhorse Campground which offers RV sites, tent sites and walk-in sites. Big Oak Campground, lakeside at New Melones Lake was perfection to us!

      I know - we were so thrilled when we got there and found this site! This place was totally un-planned - just a bit of research ahead of time, but not much. It was awesome! Thank you :) Heather

    Watched in full. Thank you for the share. Vast campground and chilly I guess. We also don’t camp during the peak of summer. That dog adoption is just awesome. Have a great week.

    Neat story about your cousin! Beautiful lake, cool wildlife and few visitors. Just got back from a brief trip to SoCal - went out for a Bible Conference, but couldn't resist a few stops in Utah and your beautiful state!

    We only recently discovered your videos and truly look forward to new ones. We live near you and your videos have given us so many ideas of rv camping opportunities in our backyard and around California. We often focus on big multi-week trips and want to do more spur of the moment, three to five days trips without leaving the state. keep up the good work.

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you found me! We love our three week or week and a half trips, but they are only a few times a year, so if we can squeeze in a few 4-5 day trips it helps our sanity ;) There are some amazing places within a few hours of our area - I think its timing and just making it happen! What kind of RV do you have? Size and being able to be off the grid really opens up the places to go. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@TravelSmallLiveBig We have a 32 foot class A with additional solar. Looking at down-sizing just to make it easier to get into smaller campgrounds and boondock. Our short trips usually include Refugio and McGee near Mammoth, otherwise it's trips out of state. We are retired and very active, our trips involve a lot of hiking. Headed to Oregon in April and have view several of your Oregon videos. They are a wonderful resorce.

      mary kanatzar nice! Smaller definitely opens doors. As does solar! We have lots of favorites on The 395 and so many favorites in Oregon! Glad I am able to give you some ideas 😁

    Lovely spot. I think your houseboats are different to the ones here in UK :-)

    • @TravelSmallLiveBig
      @TravelSmallLiveBig  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beautiful spot! Yes ~ totally different! Your houseboats are classic and our houseboats are hideous monsters... Been watching "Cruising The Cut" on Amazon Prime ~ cruising the UK canals on a narrowboat. Really enjoying the series! And other than some really long tunnels we would love to rent a narrowboat and explore! Have you seen any of this series? The guy is pretty funny, but you might have to give it a few episodes before his personality starts coming out.

    Was camped there 9/29/13 for one night. Wanted to stay another, but host told me it was closing that day because of the "no budget passed" mess. :) Stayed at nearby Ironhorse a couple of years later. Keep up the interesting videos.

      Oh bummer - we stayed two nights and loved it. How was Ironhorse? We didn't get over there ~ just too much to see and do in the short time we had. Thanks for the kind words & hope you are staying safe in this crazy time!

      @@TravelSmallLiveBig I have most likely talked to him in the past. I used to work at one of the camping areas on the lake. I hope you do come out here and make some videos. I know you like dry camping and Oak Shores would be one you would enjoy. It's a lot like this one you showed in your video here. I just recommend camping out here during the off season. Otherwise it's crowded and noisy at the camp sites.
