I’ve been looking through all the four favorites waiting for someone to say Bicycle Thieves. Easily the best movie ever. No professional actors, scrounging for film stock and shot in a demoralized Italy. Just perfect.

Some fun picks here. FAIL SAFE is a great watch and Joel picked E.T. We're a similar vintage and I didn't love it as a kid liked many seemed to, but rewatched it with my kids a few years back and it was way better than I remembered - still stand up well.

​@@psykomyko730 Nah, it doesn't take away "from the heart of the film". There's a good reason why the original title uses the plural form. Think about the relation between the first thief and the second. What's different about the circumstances that they're in? They both live through the same destitution, where having or losing a bicycle can make or break you and your family, and they both act on the same desperation. The title tells you that Antonio's is just one of many such stories in the struggle for survival among the poor.
