Thanks so much for posting these videos - I was a competitive skater until I was about 12, but that was 35 years ago! Now my daughter is getting into skating, and I got a snazzy new pair, and realized that my body doesn't remember much! I tried to do a 3 turn, assuming it would be no big deal... fortunately I was by the wall! Anyway, I'm enjoying all your tutorials!
Thank you Katie for your awesome, well-made videos! My daughter and I have been following your tips, tricks, and drills and they have helped improve our skating in this past month; from barely rolling and falling multiple times to skating forward, backwards, and transitioning with ease. We're so impressed by you, you make skating look so easy! Also, we love your sense of humor and your hair! Aloha from Hawaii🌺
Thanks again Katie! This is the first time I've done a super thanks. It's because your channel has really helped my daughter and I, and we're very impressed by your teaching skills and the quality of your videos. We hope you continue to make videos because we love learning from you! Aloha from Hawaii🌺 Joan & Riley
This is great! I needed this type of detailed instruction to learn this. I am still at a very beginner level, so detail is really important to me. Thank you!
Great video, very thorough and like thatbits slowed down to see the movements. Trying to work on back to front transitions and then hopefully work on doing it with increased speed.
Awesome video like always ❤and love your hair. Congrats on 41k followers. I started following you, and I was number 157😂 BRAVO! Amazing content and super funny, too.
Your videos have been a BIG help to get my wife back into skating. Thank you much for your awesome content! Would you be able to make any recommendations on wristguards/gloves, helmet and pads?
So glad the videos are helping. Make sure the helmet is double certified and the wrist guards have metal guards on both the top and bottom of the wrist.
For drill 4 and transitions in general do you have any tips for people whose feet don't turn out? my feet only open a little past 90 degrees and I struggle to do some transitions.
Try doing a very deep knee bend going into that rotation. I demonstrate this by standing with my feet parallel, rotate one foot open on a heel with straight legs. Then try the same movement with a deep knee bend, you should get a much greater degree of distance between your toes. My instructor’s most commonly used directive is “bend your knees.” 😜 I joke that it should be on a t-shirt, and she can save her voice by just pointing.
If you use the heel and toe manual at either end of the turn you shouldn’t actually need to turn your hips to a full 180 angle. Just make sure the foot is pointing in the direction of travel before fully committing your weight over that foot. And yes totally agree with the other reply, bending your knees will definitely help.
Is it wrong that I find myself doing these pivots reversed? In other words, I'm turning on a heel pivot? Are there rules for pivoting as to when to use your heel and when to use your toe? Or is it somewhat personal preference? What about 180 pivots? Is it always on your toe when turning front to back, and heel when turning back to front? Is that basic physics/mechanics or.... is it flexible? Essentially, am I doing it wrong if it feels natural and I'm not falling? 😂
If you're upright, I'd say that's a win. The only difference with using the heel is it can be a little harder to control, as the heel can get a bit of a swing and throw you off slightly. With regards to heels, toes, front, back etc. It usually goes on which way the upper body is facing, but a general rule is that toes tends to be safer just because too much weight towards the back on the foot is always more likely to end badly💥. For me if I'm doing staggered stance turn forwards to backwards i"ll always go toes and vice versa, stagger, backwards to forwards, I'll go heels. This is just what feels natural.
That’s totally normal at first. It can be because as you turn your feet are going against the direct of travel slightly and slowing you down or it could just be you need a little more speed to get a good roll out afterwards. Just keep drilling the positions and it will get smoother. .
Lots of skaters have this problem with hip flex. Gentle yoga and stretching exercises can help. Most skills can be done with the hips as a lesser angle. It just makes the circle smaller.
this looks so much easier than it actually is 😭
I feel this! Just take your time and work up to each step. You can do it! ⭐️💕

Skate is so easy when you do it😊

That’s a great plan. Lock it in before taking it at speed, make sure the foot doesn’t go against the direction of travel and have fun! 🤩
You're Katie and I've been watching Skatie.

Great video, thank you!! Can this technique be applied to inline skating?

I don’t have enough second position ballet turnout.
You can do it in more of a v position if you need to. It’s such an awkward position.
Why do I stop when i do this transition instead of keep on rolling backguards? What am i doing wrong?
That’s totally normal at first. It can be because as you turn your feet are going against the direct of travel slightly and slowing you down or it could just be you need a little more speed to get a good roll out afterwards. Just keep drilling the positions and it will get smoother. .
I think my hips are very tight because I can’t put my heels together drill 3.

Can youice skate ?
Yes but only to single jumps. Roller skating is definitely where I feel most comfortable. Ice is 🥶 😂
