As a medicore player who's been on and off for 20 years grabbed the IYV last week on Amazon up here in Chinada.. blown away by the quality and finish, really is a beautiful guitar and plays great
Thanks Joe! What would be cool is if you could do a little post editing so we can hear the bridge on one and then immediately hear the bridge on the other, and then same for middle and neck.
I would totally do that if I had time. I'm sure my videos would be much better if I didn't have to have a day job but I do what I can with the time I have. Keep rockin' dude!
My IYV LP can be put away for sometime and remain in tune but I have changed the strings to EB slinky or super slinky don’t remember. Part of my New Years resolution ID strings on the my guitars.
I just picked up a IYV for $124.00 just because of all the great reviews, so I had to pick one up to see for myself. I think I may have to try a firefly in the future. These guitars are awsome for the money. Thanks for the Great review
thanks for the great review! however, i believe the comparisons would have been more valid if you put the same strings (same gauge, same age, etc.) on each, you said the FF sounded brighter - how do we know it's the guitar and not the strings?
Thanks for showcasing these Joe! Ide like a good quality LP in a bourbon burst like finish and wouldnt mind paying $1000 but not much available new at that price. Even Eastman is $2500 and up Canadian dollars.
All you have to do is adjust the screw in the center of the tuner. After you get one tuner the way you like it adjust the other tuners as near as you can to that one tuner. You will have to play around with them a little bit, but it's not hard to do. This works on all tuners, cheap or expensive. You will be how amazed at how much different and better this makes your tuners. Most of the time this is all you have to do unless you get tumors made so poorly they are slipping on their posts no matter what you do. Then they are useless. 98% of the time this fixes the problem because the tension on the tuners is either too loose or too tight. Hope this helps! God Bless You and You'uns!! Jimmy in NC....
I put off getting the IYV because I don't like the yucky green HOWEVER once I decided to try it, I was amazed just opening the package. Mine is such a dark green *Nothing like ALL the ads show) that looks almost black and VERY happy with the darker color & it plays & performs extremely well. I played my Gibby les paul for many years & can't believe they can make such an amazing instrument for only a cpl. hundred bucks. Would recommend for any intermediate (or beginnner) player. Don't know why I got the only super dark green one, guess my guardian angel was looking out for me after 38 years playing in clubs...
sweet guitars bro! i wonder if iyv and vintage the brand are made in the same factory...in vietnam..... i saw a "greenie moore/lemondrop tribuite" les paul by vintage the brand that looks strikingly similar to the green iyv les paul clone...even inside the control cavity! that would be worth looking into...very intresting info nuggets!
IYV all day. Easy to buy on Amazon. If you have any trouble, you can just send it back and get a replacement. That's exactly what I did for my Green IYV LP clone. First one had issues. 2 days later I had a perfect replacement in my hands. Firefly customer service SUCKS. I received a damaged guitar (FFLP Black Elite) and tried to return it. Had to take pictures and send emails back and forth. They offered me a $10 discount to keep the guitar, or I had to pay for return shipping. Ended up keeping the guitar and paying $80 to have it fixed. Horrible customer service. If you get a good Firefly then they seem like a good deal. Get a bad one and try to deal with their customer service and good luck with that.
Hey Joe my name is Fred and I dig your show. I'm from Brooklyn NY and was wondering where your from?. I got an ltd256- jackson js32- harley benton explorer I'm all about affordable guitars 🎸bro keep up the gd work 💪
Good video they are both decent guitars I agree the IYV sounds a little darker could be because of the string difference I have two I YV guitars and also two firefly guitars these guitars are definitely better with upgraded tuners, they will stay in tune much better On my FFLPS Elite I put upgraded locking tuners on it a roller bridge and GFS mean 90s with GFS 330K pots & wiring harness it looks great sounds great and stays in tune ⭐️ ⭐️ To me the fun of these budget guitars is making them your own thing !!!!!
I own three IVY guitar and I love them so. But this model is soo green - a green that I hate. And the white panel, especially in the back rubs me raws. But I like the pointy cut, is almost Florentine and I love a Florentine cut. The Firefly is much better color but even it's bridge sound muddy. And the G string still in tune better. So, I go with the Firefly in a upgrade in pickups (maybe Seymour Duncan Hot Rails) and a Duesenberg Diamond Deluxe Tremola. I have tried the Dunlop .007 strings and nope, it's too much. .008 is as low I go and .009 is ringers out more.
haha in photos and vid so far, it's a green i love. i notice people either like yellow leaning green or blue leaning. and usually dislike the other one a lot. this one is fairly in the middle tho. but yeah, people get REAL particular on greens haha
The Firefly LP is beautiful! I'm a sucker for Les Pauls, so I'm just waiting for FIrefly to get restocked on them and gonna grab something nice and dark and moody looking, like yours. Still can't get over the green on the IYV, LOL! I don't know why they don't make them in other colours!
love the green! but it is pretty weird to only have one color. but thank god someone is putting out alt colors. green, yellow, purple, are pretty rare to come by. (*nice ones. and transparent.)
Just stick with Amazon for IYV and guitarsgarden for firefly. On eBay the IYV green LP is $250 and reverb is ridiculous. People asking $300 or so, lol.
idk from the first section of comparison, i think the firefly actually did better. more clear/articulated. not that the IYV sounds bad, but direct comparison i give the win to firefly.
@@JoeHopkinsmusic sound is subjective, so i'm trying to go more by "how solid are the parts". i like both. wondering which is a better value (parts/function). besides, the sound is mostly on amp anyway, so i've learned. :)
The Firefly has a traditional cut away like on a Les Paul, which is called a "Venetian Cutaway", the IYV has what is called a "Florentine Cutaway".
GLAD TO come to discover you... Good job...
Thanks Dude 😎

It does play great and sounds really good too. Keep rockin' dude!
Wish Amazon purached more colors off IVY as thier site has many nice options available, I'd buy another for sure
@@markmarino3750 So do I dude. It’s so much easier to buy from Amazon than from IYV directly.

I'd like to see these type guitars compared against their price counterpart on shelves here, Epiphone LP Special

Hey there Joe, great vid. Just wondering wich neck felt the most comfortable too you?
IYV. Their neck is definitely better 😎
I got the IYV Les paul and I Love it.
Both of your guitars sound great. Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks dude, rock on!
Love the IYV lineup..❤
Thanks for showcasing these Joe! Ide like a good quality LP in a bourbon burst like finish and wouldnt mind paying $1000 but not much available new at that price. Even Eastman is $2500 and up Canadian dollars.
I think Harley Benton has a bourbon burst or something similar. IYV might also. 😎🎸

Sounds cool man. I didn’t know they made a dark green.
yeah i've never seen it be a *dark* green. that's crazy! but i'd love to see it. i'm a fan of dark green and it would look nice on this setup.
Middle position on that IYV was giving off some ZZ Top vibes
Have you ever heard of revelation guitars? I'm curious to see if they're any good.
I have now. I might take a look.
Is that a Seagull Entourage on your wall? Or a Yamaha? I have the Seagull. What a great value and quality
Thank you

Thanks dude. I ordered purple but they sent me red. I think it worked out pretty good.
The pups in the firefly sound like cheap ceramics to me

I must be the outlier. Love a great neck pickup. Especially on a firebird.
Do a pickup swap and do another comp!
Good idea, I might do that.
The differences between the FFLP Custom and Elite differences are only cosmetic.
Good to know, thanks dude!
I have one of each, the neck profile of the elite is more of a slim taper where the classic is chunkier

I have set up about half a dozen of each and think IYV is slightly better all the way around.

iyv sounds more rock the firefly sounds jazzy

IYV is pronounced "eve" in English. The question is did the IYV company intend for that or just say I-Y-V?

I am totally crazy! And I will probably buy even more unnecessary guitars 🎸
I've decided: You're honestly lazy. 🙂
