Your vernacular in your description of your items separates you from the other treasure hunters whose vocabulary is limited to "oh my God!" "I'm blown away!" "This is so awesome!" It's a pleasure to watch your videos and especially the low level emotions you exhibit every week.

That hinged thing is half of a ladies two piece belt buckle circa 1930s. That hinge part is where one half of the fabric belt would attach. The other half would look just the same with another place to attack the other end if the belt. Then the two pieces hook in the middle. Either with a hook and some sort of eye or other clip. I make vintage reproduction clothing and I’m an historical costumer. These were the rage in the 1930s. Kind of fell out of favor in the 40s in favor of plastic or other non metals during the war. Ps: I live in your town. We love to see all the places you go. We recognize most of them. Love the channel.

Brad, great video today. My uncle gave me a telescoping cup when I was about 5-6 years of age. He said that he always carried one when he went hunting or fishing and I had it forever until I went off to college, Fall 1966. My mom "repurposed" my room and packed up all my things so that my brothers could have my space. You should get one for your son to take with you guys when you go out for one of your adventures. Please continue these great videos!😃😃

Jingle bells are fastened to a leather strap with cotter pins and go around the girth of the horse, over the harness. A string of them is usually either one size (like for a pony) or the entire set of sizes going from large at the top to smaller as they go down the sides of the horse. The variation in sizes is to maximize the range of sound to assist in alerting other rigs of an approaching rig in the snow or at night.

About the 'telescoping cup' They would have been made well into the 60s because back in those days where I grew up, kids picked berries and would take cups like that with them (in a pocket) so we could get a drink of water from the water tank (about 5 - 6 gallons of water. They would sometimes be created with a small pocket on the underside of the cap to put pills in if you needed them.

I copied this from a quick internet search..."Oak galls are abnormal plant growths found on foliage and twigs that are produced by small oak gall wasps. Shapes of galls vary from spherical to urn-shaped to star-shaped to fuzzy. Inside the galls are the eggs and larvae of the insects."

Like your cap. It reminds me of when I was in the Navy, (1964-1970) I wore the same cap I was issued in boot camp, for the entire time. It looked like that in the bill. The rest was a little worse for wear, because if I washed it, it would have disintegrated. I think the rear band was starting to wear through. I was told many times to get a new one, but I never did. I wore it until I got out. It lasted five tours in Vietnam.

RE: the oak gall ink-- Another good way of making ink was to burn wool to ashes, grind the ashes into as fine a powder as possible, and mix with a little water and gum arabic. I've tried this; it makes decent ink, so long as you really grind the ashes very fine. I think the original recipe came from the Middle East, but that was hundreds of years ago and it spread pretty far. Lampblack was also used in American colonial times and clear up until only a century or so ago to make good ink.
That beautiful little mother-of-pearl clasp-- I wonder if it could go to a lady's purse or belt? It really was very nice.
