I imagine the deceased had already been thru the wringer as far as not receiving rent and dealing with an unnecessarily long and odious, and frequently unfair, eviction process, and then only to lose his life.

There are so many things the landlord has to go thru before the sheriff get involve for eviction. It can take up to a few months, they want you to go mediation at first, but if the tenant play games and does not response, or not goint to mediation, then it takes longer, but even though you both gone thru a mediation, the tenant does not need to fullfill their part of agreement if they change their mind, yes you can tell the judge but ONLY IF you were able to finally see the judge. When i spoke to my attorney about my issues before, usually the Landlord are being seen the bigger person, people assume the landlords are rich and should tolerate alot of things, it just unfair. Bad tenants are not being notice because they can always get away with things, there is no reporting agency that Landlord can report to if some tenants dont pay on time, violate terms, why would those people dont take advantage when there is a flaw in the system?

there will be tons of folks advocating for "tenant rights" thats for sure. yes the landlord was doing his job and didnt deserved to be killed over it. if this was in San francisco it will be widely celebrated by city officials and "tenant rights" groups.
A lot of those types popping up in Hawaii these days, and you notice a pattern? I also live in LA and I noticed a pattern, and you residents of Hawaii will notice real soon.

The reporter should be more specific. Was owner serving the tenant a 'notice of eviction.' Or trying to evict her? The sheriff dept usually does the physical evicting. You got to have a court order in order to evict after taking the tenant to court to begin with.
He was probably so pissed off so much he lost his patience and tried to toss him out on his own. If you've never had to deal with worthless tenants, trust me, they can make you so angry you feel like killing them.

Correct. There is always final eviction notice by the court after several hearings, delays etc over years. Even then, tenants can ask the court for more time to vacate the place. After all that, the sheriff sends a notice to notify them of pending eviction and possible date sheriff would be coming to sort it out. We don't know what happened here. But, I don't have sympathy for landlords because they are greedy, and cruel, and show no compassion or mercy to people in diff8culties. That's what greed gives you... sorry
I think it's way too recent for all the facts. So sad he chose to behave that way, and has a history of rent payment failures which obviously, he hasn't changed at all.

The landlord already made an appointment with the sheriffs to come to evict the tenant. In this instance the landlord was outside sweeping the grounds. The tenant saw him and attacked.
It wouldn’t work in Illinois-! Can you believe it-!!!? They just passed a “purge law” which basically states that if force is necessary, the cops won’t do it. It sure would be nice if rent wasn’t a thing. Let people buy and own properties again.
Entitled people think they don't have to pay rent. They are first one to use violent if you try to evict them. One detective was shot today in Seattle serving a civil eviction notice to a violent criminal.

There’s too much emphasis on tenants’ rights these days and hardly any mention of the abuse tenants inflict on landlords. I would never be a landlord. I couldn’t trust people enough to let them use my property. Neither could I trust the legal system to help me deal with destructive or dangerous tenants or with nonpayment of rent. Stories like this one are examples of why I’d never put myself in that position.

I'm a landlord. I ONLY rent to retired professionals with good Social Security and savings. I won't rent to Section 8 or working class people at all. I never advertise an available unit is 'for rent" so I can pick and choose my next tenant. Most my tenants have been with me 8 years or more. Retirees are the last generation of workaholics that are polite and responsible.

Welp, he doesn't like paying rent, so he found the perfect solution. He's about to get 30 years to life of free rent and 3 free meals a day. Me personally, I wouldn't want to wash another man's 🩲 for free rent, but I guess that's what the world has come to.

The government is to blame for this. Government uses every crisis to take peoples right. In this case, they took tenants rights to rightfully evict a dishonest person.

We have a meth head neighbor who is constantly yelling, cussing, breaking, banging, destroying property. He’s been served eviction papers and still refuses to leave. He just destroyed his car, no clue how but hoping he didn’t hurt anyone 😢 yet he’s still here, making the rest of us miserable and tenants have already moved out bc of it.

I'm really worried for myself,I know..how selfish of me right, but I have become desensitized to the evil we are capable of as human beings and inflicting on ourselves.
There's always something,and it's only going to get worse because guess what..we now actually hate each other and are not afraid to see it so this division makes things like this very palatable.
Know that there is an afterlife where we are judged on our actions in this life. There have been times I want to maybe kill someone but knowing that there are consequences beyond what we see here, and that everything here is only temporary… whatever hardships or problems with who we have to deal with, they too are only temporary.

Usually when the court issues possession order the Sheriffs show up to evict along with the landlord. Why did he go there by himself?! This makes no sense.

Actually, landlords have to pay to have the sherriff come out to evict someone, so they try not to do it. Additionally, evictions are NOT a priority for police, so if there are not police available to do an eviction, then they won't be doing it.

Some tenants only act nice when they wanted to move in to your property, then they hide things from the landlord, make their own rules, does not reply when the landlord try to contact some tenants to warn them they violate the terms in their rental agreement. Lots of tenants are very good, but there are always some that tries to lie and get their ways. Landlords doesnt want to serve any of their tenants any notices if unnecessary.
A lease is an agreement that the tenant will behave by agreed rules and pay rent on an agreed time. Tenants like these simply don't feel that agreement is tangible once they move in. There really should be a system for landlords to communicate about the behaviors of tenants to warn not to rent to. Like a credit score, car dealerships have that opportunity not to sell to someone with bad credit.

A landlord should get a court order and call the cops to oversee difficult evictions, rather than mix it up with tenants. That's what you pay taxes for.
