@liberalismisaids9564 so true. I'm from Tucson and trued chickens and turkeys before I went off grid in northern Arizona. And I had them for at least 5 years before I moved.

I love how the corporate governments are trying to act as though we need their permission to raise chickens on our property. I've had chickens every place I've lived, city, no city, and I will regardless of their statutes.
Growing up in Mesa, we had a chicken ranch where we raised chicks till they were old enough to start laying eggs and then the egg ranches would buy them from us thus eliminating that part of the process. I'm talking about 250,000 or more chickens at a whack.
We’ve had chickens for over 20 years now here in Phoenix. City told us years ago hens were fine but we couldn’t have the roosters so that’s what we’ve always done.
Technically it’s been legal for way longer, but it was up to nuisance laws so basically okay until somebody complains. So they must have revised it blatantly stating it’s ok up to 6.
Yeah, my neighbors put in a very strong coop, but let hens out some during the day. They would stay outside with the chickens to watch for predators, then hens went back at dusk on their own. Slowly but surely the hens all eventually got eaten by something or had an illness. Hawk, bobcat & coyote all in broad daylight. They did last over a year though.
Not here, chico. All pens are fenced over, not just around. Birds all go in a coop with high roosts that has wire under the roosts. If anything gets in, rattlers patrolling for rodents chase them off. Rattlers do not stay when it starts to get light out. Too many hungry owls, mebbe :)
People need to be really aware of the very real problem of rats thriving on chicken feed. They need to be prepared to work to prevent boom in the rat population. Thirty years ago, no rats in my neighborhood. Now with the rise of backyard chickens the rat population has gotten out of hand. Don't let it happen to your neighborhood.

Not allowing someone to have chickens for food is government overreach. No government should stop it, HOA maybe, but not government law should prevent it. Chicken coops are beneficial for small gardens, you can use the waste to help make compost.
For anyone thinking about getting chickens because you want fresh eggs know that you will end up spending a lot more money to care for/feed these chickens than you would just walking into a grocery and buying some eggs even organic.
It's worth it, I know what my chickens are eating and I don't have to spend $20 a box for eggs every few weeks or so. I spend $25 on a 50 lb of feed and it lasts for months. The most expensive thing is setting up your coop. I feed them food scraps which reduces my waste and makes compost for my garden (fruit trees). When I eat the eggs I save the egg shells to give to my chickens for extra calcium. Plus chickens are goofy animals they are a joy to have around, but be careful of chicken math 😂
I think as long as you can keep the life stock healthy with a large enough safe space. As well as not create a bad smell in the area. You should be about to keep some animals.
