I work at a quarry and need this to get accurate measurements inside tight spaces. When measuring inside a tiny 1 ft space, does this tool account for the length of itself at the base?
Yes, you can easily adjust from 3 different measuring points of the unit itself. I believe it has where you can measure from the top, bottom, and center.
So how does this work with the device calculating in its own distance? Like in the example of the 70 ft why was it not 60 feet 8 inches with 4 inches being the device distance.

Question, Do you need to use the target cards always? If for instance you are going from wall to wall on a ladder, wont the beam have to be perfectly level to get an accurate reading?
Yes, it needs to be level to be accurate. It's similar to using a tape measure, you try to hold the tape level across a room as level as possible or measure on the floor. As far as the target cards go, they aren't necessary. They're for taping to something that doesn't have a surface for the laser to hit. For instance, if you're trying to measure the length of a hallway that takes a right right or left, you would stick this target card at the turn, so it sticks out a couple inches for a spot for the laser dot to measure from. Does my explanation help?

The front setting is handy if you're lining the front of the LDM with a line. It's also handy if you're measuring from something like an archway and you can put just the edge of the front of the LDM next to it and still get a laser measurement. Did that help?

I need a laser to measure angle and distance at the same time up the side of a hill for the set up of a Ram water pump. Head and pumping distance. Can this do laser do this?
I haven't tried that angle measuring feature too much. It seems to be accurate though. I should clarify that it doesn't say what the angle number is, but gives you the distance based on the angle from the bottom starting point to the top point.
If you're trying to hit a small target, maybe 20'. They make another one that displays an image and a target. I don't recall the model number, but I did a review on it.
How do you measure a window that you can't reach. Can I point and sweep across to get the distance and how wide and tall they are. I sell window treatments like shades.
These lasers do some type of indirect measuring, but I haven't tested to see how accurate they are in that respect. They're very accurate for room measuring.
There's a way to measure the height, but you'd need to put a dot on the bottom of the tree and the top. You almost would have to do it at night to see the dot near the top. There are probably better ways to measure trees, but I"m haven't come across that yet.
No, only the red dot is visible. If you want to see the laser line, it can be done with a fog machine in dim light. It's kinda fun to try, especially with the 3 plane laser.
That's a good question. I don't think there's any way it would work for that unless you went out at night and could see the red dot to do an indirect measurement.
Thanks. Can I ask have you found any variances in measurement in poor lighting conditions, does lighting affect readings as much as the differences in surfaces?
Thanks. I found your demo very useful and informative. I first bought a chinese made (Uni-T) distance meter, I noticed some variance in reading when measuring fixed objects (doorframe, cabinet wall) when I first turned it on, being 3-4mm off then later being within 1mm of my tape measure. I thought it was the lighting at first but it turned out to be the temperature (no kidding) since I noticed it became more accurate after about 3-5 minutes of using it. Swiftly exchanged it with a bosch glm40 and our local bosch service center has offered to replace it with a glm 500 because of an issue with the device.
I had really high hopes. I was super disappointed. I used this to measure from the tip to the base of my penis. Well the Bosch GLM165-40 was extremely accurate but still I’m very disappointed. By all means not disappointed by the device but, at myself…
I'm not exactly sure from corner to corner, since this is made to sit on a flat surface. You can get a close guess, but not super precise. If you had a 12" ruler, you could use that along with this to get a corner to corner measurement. The ruler will go directly in the corner and just add 12" to the measurement. Hope that helps!
It's very easy. When you turn the unit on, I believe it automatically measures from the back of the unit. It also lets you toggle to measure from the front of the center, which is if you put it on a tripod. Just make sure it's measuring from the back and point it to the ceiling. You'll have a measurement in a few seconds.

0:08 I want to use such a device with a plastic corner-cube reflector plate, which reflects THOUSANDS as much back in the direction of the emitter than a white paper-like surface. (See Lambertian reflector.) I want to measure 500, 1000, 2000 meters, with a resolution of 1 millineter . Problem is, I don't think the device will 'wait for' such a delayed reflection, even when it arrives late. And, of course, the display doesnt have sufficient digits to display this.
Yes, they work well for that. I seen a carpet cleaning estimator use one inside a commercial building and it saves a lot of time getting the room sizes.

@@MarkThomasBuilder I am enjoying this laser for my windows, great for measuring windows for blinds, curtains, I am in the market for them LED's going to install the on my 4 walls, so yeh ordering the proper length is really helping me out. Kool little device
Hi iv had my laser for 4 years and hardly ever use it cuz its always out by 3 or 4 inches please could you reply back and make a video how to callabirate it so its accurate to the inches please i would appreciate it
Sorry I'm not sure how to fix that. I've never had to calibrate mine. I would suggest reaching out to Bosch and see if they can help.
@@MarkThomasBuilder thank you for replying
I need a laser to measure angle and distance at the same time up the side of a hill for the set up of a Ram water pump. Head and pumping distance. Can this do laser do this?
I haven't tried that angle measuring feature too much. It seems to be accurate though. I should clarify that it doesn't say what the angle number is, but gives you the distance based on the angle from the bottom starting point to the top point.
Hey there I have one of these and was trying to figure out how to either fix it or sell it because the screen is cracked :/
Humm, not sure what to do if that happens. I'd contact Bosch and see if they offer a repair option.
@@MarkThomasBuilder thanks! I’ll check that out :)
Hi, how far can you measure outdoors in a sunny day. Thank you
If you're trying to hit a small target, maybe 20'.
Very nicely explained. Thank you!! I bought it...
Glad it was helpful, thanks!
Does it read below a meter, means does it work for read cm ?
yes, you can switch between metric and imperial.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thank You
Do they work outside?
You can see the red dot from 20' away on a partly cloudy day. The best laser measurer for outdoor use is the Bosch GLM400CL.
How is the battery life
I don't know how long it runs, but the batteries seem to last a decently amount.
can we measure the Angle on them
It measures angles too in the level feature.
My question is can i use the GLM50C to measure trees?
There's a way to measure the height, but you'd need to put a dot on the bottom of the tree and the top. You almost would have to do it at night to see the dot near the top. There are probably better ways to measure trees, but I"m haven't come across that yet.
Best to use an app on your phone. Especially a newer phone
Is the laser visible ?
No, only the red dot is visible. If you want to see the laser line, it can be done with a fog machine in dim light. It's kinda fun to try, especially with the 3 plane laser.
Does it measure in Feet decimals or feet and inches?? like 4'11"?? thanks
Feet and inches. I haven't checked lately to see if there's other units of measurement.
could you shoot the top of a tree to determine height?
That's a good question. I don't think there's any way it would work for that unless you went out at night and could see the red dot to do an indirect measurement.
Cool, I'll give that a try.
Works like charm..
how accurate is your tape measure ...?
Thanks. Can I ask have you found any variances in measurement in poor lighting conditions, does lighting affect readings as much as the differences in surfaces?
I haven't noticed any variances. I'll have to keep an eye out for that and get back with you.
Price please
how much the batter backup
I had really high hopes. I was super disappointed. I used this to measure from the tip to the base of my penis. Well the Bosch GLM165-40 was extremely accurate but still I’m very disappointed. By all means not disappointed by the device but, at myself…
Greetings of peace, I'm a plumber by trade how can I use this device to measuring and cutting pipe more accurately?
It's hard for me to say without seeing what you're doing. It puts a very accurate dot on the thing you're measuring. It's meant for indoor use.
Can I get square using this
How should I hold it corner to corner and if I put it in one corner where the dot hits is that a straight line
Good review. How do you measure floor to ceiling?
It's very easy. When you turn the unit on, I believe it automatically measures from the back of the unit. It also lets you toggle to measure from the front of the center, which is if you put it on a tripod. Just make sure it's measuring from the back and point it to the ceiling. You'll have a measurement in a few seconds.
Great video friend...could you please explain how to use the wall area feature and indirect feature
How can I get one to buy?
I provided a link down below in the video description.
How to measure square or other shapes
It does some indirect measuring. I haven't really used that feature to test the accuracy.
How do you turn it off ?
Press and hold the red button.
Hey Mark, I have the GLM 50 C and I need help on how to measure square feet inside of a house. I Have a cleaning business and I need on how to measure square foot, Thanks
Here's a link to a Bosch video featuring some answers to your question. This laser will definitely help speed your measurements, compared to a tape measure. th-cam.com/video/b8dVa1QPABM/w-d-xo.html
Let see you make some measurement outside in bright sun.
That's the struggle, unless you're able to aim at something big like a big wall. You can see the red dot up to a certain point on cloudy day.
These are only good when you have to really measure a long length vs. a regular measuring tape.
Yes, they work well for that. I seen a carpet cleaning estimator use one inside a commercial building and it saves a lot of time getting the room sizes.
Are you ready to trade in your 100' tape measure for the laser? If so, what type of work would you measure with it?
Square footage to calculate estimates for cleaning. I've been "by the job" but it's not working out for me. Not making money 😒 Payroll is costing too much, I need to adjust my pricing and square footage is the next step. Thanks for the video!
I must be doing something wrong mine is about an inch or two off :(
Are you familiar with the measuring setting from the front, middle, or back of the laser?
@@MarkThomasBuilder I am now, thanks for pointing that out.
hi, please update upcoming Bosch professional laser Measurement 2019 - long length - india
My next Bosch Laser video will be out in 3 days. Please subscribe to be notified.
its measured meter & foot
the part inch must be a nightmare to work with 40 ft 1/36 inch. what? 😂
I mostly use this for general measurements, but it is very accurate.
Wish it was rechargable. It has all the tech but still uses AAA batteries.
The batteries seem to last a long time. Home Depot has some good deals on Energizer batteries.
Corroded batteries destroyed mine 😫
so its accurate to a 16th but shows 32nds? what is the point of that? anyone figure out how to turn 32nds off and have it round to the nearest 16th?
That's a great question. I'll have to look into that and let you know.
I would also love to have one that will only measure to 1/16” and can you make the read out in inches only, like 165” 3/16 and not convert it to feet? I have a Bosch GLM 40 and that is my two biggest complaints. If this one will do those two things, I will go buy it tomorrow. @@MarkThomasBuilder
I am interested in this as well. It would be nice not to have to do fractional math every single measurement. The Amazon reviews say it stays on a 1/32 read out.
too much stuff. I just want a laser tapemeasure to measure out 16 feet across a room to lay out can lights.
I understand that. I never use some of the advanced features like indirect measurements.
Using a wrinkly old imperial tape laid on the rough ground 😂fml !!!
🤷♂️😂
