ESPN has, once again, screwed ESPN+ subscribers. This time with bowl games. In 2023 nearly every bowl game ESPN covered they included on ESPN+. In 2024 that has changed to zero.
This was a no win - what do we have to lose - bowl game for Cal. QB Mendoza jumped into the portal before this game. (And good luck finding any school to pick up a QB who chokes - a fine QB tradition for Cal teams of the last 10 years.) Looking at this again, it was good we got the true first year QB some game experience that sort of mattered.
I was wondering this, too. Research says the key here is that the receiver caught the pass behind the line of scrimmage. In college rules, this means that ineligible player downfield is not relevant. Basically, it is classified as a screen pass or run play. In the NFL, this would have been a penalty.
