congrats mam, and thank you, for sharing. can you please explain about these electives, are they expensive, how are they different from observerships.?
Not from India! But this video is very useful and inspirational as I m also preparing for step 1 I can understand .. Thanku so much. And Bundle of Congratulations to the Resident for getting residency in US especially in Radialogy...
Please clarify on 3 points. -When did she get time for those electives she is talking about. -How much will be the expenses on Application fee and other fee/charges. -Are there also any visa issues ?
You can ask your school to reduce your internship hours in wards during 5th year and you do US elective at that time. And you complete usmle while youre in school. 3rd year you take step 1 and 5th year end you take step 2. And then apply for residency 1 year after 5th year finish. During that year you go to us and do more electives. Each elective is 6 to 8 week long and take 5000usd to 6000usd PER elective for 6 to 8 weeks. Minimum need 6 months elective. Roughly 15k to 18k USD for clinical electives is fee. And your agent who arranges this will take 1k usd as his/her commissions. Accommodation in US roughly 500 usd a month+ 100 usd a month food. And tickets there and back. Step 1 to Step 2 and ERAS application is about another 5000 usd for 100 residency application and fee for taking exam. So total roughly 28,000 USD to 30,000 USD for total "journey". so 15 to 20 lakh is safe range.

hello mam. agar ek indian medical student india me mbbs k bad usmle entrance exam.crack kar k usa me practice kar raha he. bahat saal bad woh agar india k govt hospital me practice kar ne k liye chaha toh kay kar k india me practice kar sakta he
I have heard fmg who have even cracked usmle & matched are having a tough time getting visa .Is it true?? Please tend to my question.Because if this is the case, all the hard work will be in vain
That's true. But normally visa problem arrives when you're applying from India for Step 2 CS or clinical electives. A lot of visa applications get rejected that time. One of the primary reasons is not having a lot of money in your bank account. if you're from a poor or middle class family, don't have 15-20 lakhs in your bank account to show, your visa rejection probability increases drastically. You'll also need to show that you'll be coming back to India after completion, but not planning guidance to stay in US. Visa rejection is high for Indians. So have a lot of money in bank before you apply and/with all other important papers.
