    I recently purchased a pair of these and not that impressed with them to be honest. Heat settings are pointless as you would only use them on the hottest setting, which is not that great either. The finger tips for use with a mobile phone screen are more or less uselss. I persevered with them but wish I hadn't spent over £200 with the connectors required following that change around with the female to male connection to the jacket!
    All things considered, including the cost, I'd score them a generous 2 out of 10 and the 2 being for the fit....they are comfortable!
    In my opinion anyone that raves about these has either been donated them or trying to convince themselves that the £200 has not been wasted!

      Chris I’d actually agree with what you’ve said now I’ve had the gloves for a longer period. I wired them direct to the bike as people told me they were much hotter that way, but I sent these back as I thought they were faulty - the only place I was feeling any kind of warmth was the back of my hands, and the fingers rarely felt any heat.
      Keis replaced them with the ‘shorty’ version and I’ve not noticed any difference at all in the heating.
      I’m doing a follow up review soon as I’ve been given their heated jacket and socks and my verdict hasn’t changed on the gloves - I’d rather use good heated grips and summer gloves 👍

    Currently I have the Keis heated vest and insoles and planning to add these to my kit this year. Once you’ve tried it, there’s no going back. I know they do full jackets and trousers as well, but I’ve found that with good thermal layers, having the core and extremities heated is more than enough. Until now I’ve used heated grips coupled with bar muffs in the winter along with the vest and insoles and have been comfortably warm commuting at -12°C. Just want the gloves instead as I find the muffs a bit restrictive. When I first started riding, it was carrier bags over my socks and newspapers stuffed down the front of my jacket. The difference in comfort now with goretex gear and heated stuff is amazing.

    Lol nice one👍
    Got me some Keis 601’s (leather) back in November and a Keis J501RP, these gloves came out literally a couple of weeks after I got my 601’s so it was interesting to see what you thought of them.
    No heated grips on my bike, so in severe weather I use the heated gloves inside Givi TM421 handlebar muffs, riding in sub zero temps the gloves were good for me on the amber (mid setting) in combo with the bar muffs.
    The jacket however really does make a massive difference, if you leave it off and wait for the chill to start and then bang it on full it’s like having the sun on your back - bloody excellent. I power the gloves through the jacket, which is powered by the bike. If you do get the jacket make sure you buy the optional controller. Nice review Bruce 👍

    Absolutely agree with your conclusions on these gloves - they do 'take the edge off' on the coldest days, and I don't get so many days where the poor circulation makes my finger tips turn yellow. They aren't quite the game changers that I was hoping though.

  • @CloudedArcher
    @CloudedArcher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another great vid Bruce! You had some key pros and cons most people wanting honest advice like to hear from someone whom has been using them for some time. 👍
    I've owned their jacket and inner gloves, riding through temperatures around freezing made a huge difference not just for comfort but safety. I know what it's like when your hands get so cold you struggle to operate the leavers.
    My only two cons were that the inner gloves bulcked up the whole glove making it more difficult to freely move your hand, so I can see the benefit to go for G701. Other being that I struggle to prevent water getting in to the connector, the smallest amount would cause the fuse to blow; an issue they apparently realised hence why they remove the rubber cover to reduce customers complaining it would leak causing them to replace it... this was over 5 year ago so they may have changed this design.

    Great review Bruce.
    I do prefer the idea of heated gloves, to heated grips, purely because grips heat your palm, not your fingers (which in my case, are what suffer in the cold).
    Currently, I don't have (and have never had), heated grips or gloves, but as i'm "maturing" (55), i'm seriously considering heated gloves.
    I don't think the Kies ones will be on my short list, the price is way above my budget!!........and I think that's about the only issue, from your review, I can see.
    Be safe, ride safe and have fun.

    Hi, I used Gerbings heated gloves for many years of winter commuting and they were great for my needs but they did have their limitations. The battery life was much shorter a little over an hour but that was fine for my commute. The main issue for me was the finger tips, the gloves heated the back of the hands great and the heated grips were great for the palms but the tips of my fingers 🥶. This however did not impede my control of the bike which was the main purpose and the sensation in the tips of my fingers was probably exaggerated because the rest of my hands were warm. I struggled to get the gauntlet under my jacket as this was where the batteries were located but it was manageable. I have had my gloves for several years now so I’m sure batteries have improved a lot since then. I’d be interested to see a comparison with the Keis gloves as by my recollection they were about £50 cheaper, the batteries were about the same cost though.

    Oh my eyes, I can't unsee that specticle! Besides the shock of a naked teapotone, gotta agree about the gloves. I've found the Keis heated insoles to be a total revelation on those really cold rides and yes I've also got the heated jacket, it does make a massive difference. If anybody's interested, have a look at my review. Great vid Bruce, far more professional than mine but you've been doing this stuff so much longer.

  • @ukjeeper

    Bought the non "Xtreme" Gerbing GT gloves last January. They were brilliant gloves, so warm and comfortable. Until it rained, when i found out they were as 'waterproof' as a tea bag. No matter how many times I NikWax'ed the leather, i'd feel them getting damp after about 30 mins, eventually getting soaked through. Which made, for instance, a 5 hour ride up to Liverpool in one of the 'named' storms early this year quite miserable. Though TBF after 5 hours of non stop torrential rain, almost all my gear gave up!
    To their credit, the heating elements kept going so at least my hands were warm AND wet. But every time it rained, the gloves would soak up the water, even when shielded by Barkbuster Storm guards. The last time was riding home from the NEC bike show, where they were soaked by the time i got to the M1 (again, 30-40 mins).
    Took them back to SportsBikeShop (Harlow), who sent them off to Gerbing, where they were replaced and i received a Xtreme set of GT gloves without any argument.
    That took a few weeks, so while at Harlow i bought a pair of Keis G701S, as i needed heated gloves.
    VERY disappointed in the Keis, they don't keep my hands warm, at all. The gloves are too thin, and the textile fabric does not retain the minimal heat the Keis produce. Again, even when shielded by Barkbuster Storm guards. Didn't get a chance to test out the waterproofing (yet), but both brands use "Hipora".
    Also, the connectors on the Keis are not as good as the Gerbings. A real pain to push the wires onto glove connectors, and even harder to pull them off. To the point where it feels like eventually the wires will pull out of the sockets. Mainly due to the hard plastic 'ring' that is probably to keep any water out.
    So, for me, Gerbing over Keis.

    I wear Keis heated jacket, trousers, and gloves, but all wired to the bike. The gloves on high can get too hot at times, so I'm wondering if the battery powerpacks don't give quite as much oomph as the bike generator? But I would never go back to non-heated winter riding again! A game changer 👍

    Maybe its my age or my poor body insulation after years of riding wearing any type of glove from knitted (not by me) to bin mans gloves as in the 80s Dr Martin boots a Donkey jacket and jeans was my idea of protective clothing.

      This was a timely video, as I have been googling heated gloves. My mates all have heated grips (weak!), and since I am not in the cool BMW crowd, gloves are it.

  • @LeChardon

    Jeezo! My eyes, my eyes! Where was the parental warning!?! 😉
    On a serious note, I'm really interested to see how these managed in heavy rain.
    I've learned that heated grips cause GoreTex fabric to allow water ingress. How do heated gloves fare?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d heard this too so was expecting the gloves to suffer in prolonged exposure to heavy rain. However so far they’ve remained watertight

    • @Tolandur
      @Tolandur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      as long as the heat is on the opposite side of the goretex as the water its fine..... the problem happens when the wet side of the goretex becomes warmer than the dry side.... but as these are internaly heated its not a problem..... heated grips on the other hand heats up the "wet" side and lets water vapor pass trough to the inside of the fabric and you end up with soggy gloves

    I've had an earlier version of these Keis gloves, worked really well for 2 years but the stitching gave up and I only wore them on really cold days when I had to use the bike for a long trip so that was a total of 9 times.
    Keis wouldn't replace them due the faulty manufacturing of the gloves but offered me a small discount on some new gloves.
    My heated Keis vest wiring broke away from the plug in socket.
    I thought that the vest was covered by the "life time guarantee" but sadly no, it seems that only the heating element is covered by the guarantee, not the actual wiring and not the plug in items either.
    If your thinking of buying any items from Kies just bear in mind whats actual covered by the "life time guarantee?

      Thanks bud, this vid is a few years old now - I find heated gloves only good for taking the edge off the cold, they don’t actually warm your hands at all.
      I much prefer good heated grips and summer gloves - only bettered if you add handlebar muffs

      Best solution for me personally is BMW heated grips (hot as the sun), handle bar guards (deflects wind off your hands), and summer gloves (gives me loads of feel for working cameras and also let’s loads of heat through from the heated grips).
      I wear light summer gloves all year round, coldest so far was -15 centigrade, toasty warm.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heated gloves never heat the fingers or back of my hands enough, and just end up making me feel colder.
      Get a heated jacket - absolute God send

  • @PureEvolution

    Do you think they would be a little warmer running from the Bike rather than battery ?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told they would be, but can confirm after trying them wired direct to the bike, that they still aren’t very warm.
      I much prefer summer gloves and good heated grips.
      Their heated jacket is absolutely fantastic though, probably the only bit of heated kit I’d spend my own money on
