This is definitely going to be my first handgun. It comes with all the things you would find on a custom glock. But right out of the box and for a lower price. No modification necessary.

Don’t forget that free plate is US market specific. Rest of the world we have to buy a plate we want. The fact this gun arrives with no plates makes it (at least on Czech market) much cheaper than Glock 19/17 MOS even when ordering one specific plate when you decide to buy it. For someone like me who doesn’t run pistol optics the fact that there’s option for you later but it isn’t more expensive at the start makes it the Best bang for buck. Gonna buy this gun soon. Really looking forward to it.
I own a full size PDP 4.5” and absolutely love it. Also own a PPSM2LE and quite happy with it as well. Walther does a great job, but I will be purchasing a compact PDP soon, too. I have shot several Glocks, you can have them. Shot several other brands as well, I’m sticking with Walther. Good job on the review, describes the compact version very well.
Having just shot this pistol, it is awesome. It took me a mag to figure it out but the very next mag, I was connecting with the plates. This is a great gun. Fortunately it’s owner didn’t care for it and I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. I should have it next week. One thing said which is true, this gun does what a modified Glock 19 does out of the box. Awesome gun. Good job on the review.

Hey GRJCLyon. If you purchase a 15 round version, some FFL`s will block the magazines to 10 round max, but it adds to the cost (around $25-$45 per mag alteration). I have recently located the pdp compact 10 round version. you also can search the Product Code: 723364218613. Some dealers place the Ad with product code instead of model number. Good luck with your search.
I just shot one of these at a pistol drilling class. It was the instructor's. I knew this gun was truly different... it is NOTICEABLY lighter than all of my other 4" barreled 9mm pistols. Numbers wise, it shows a few ounces lighter- but you can feel it! It feels great in the hand..and it handles recoil quite well. I found it to be VERY accurate. I'm about to buy one- but I just bought a Beretta APX Centurion...and am having the same issue as everyone else right now- 9mm ammo is made of unobtanium. Scheels has this PDP Compact for $649. GREAT gun!
After years of PPQ and Q5 I bought a PDP compact Pro SD 4.6.. The pro has an even better trigger. Not much, but noticeably, and well worth the extra money. By far the best pistol I ever owned, and in 50 years of shooting I owned many.
Just discovered your channel, and I must say it is very well done. I currently have a P07 and have previously carried a 1911 and M92 for Uncle Sam, but I've been looking at the PDP as my first striker sidearm. They shoot wonderfully out of the box and have an excellent heritage.
Very well done review. It covered all the relevant points on the PDP without extraneous chatter. Professional lighting and focus - very nice job. So many videos (elsewhere) are full of out-of-focus scenes, extra movements, out of frame, etc.
5:56 ... there is a new reticle made by primary arms called the "vulcan" that has a dot in the middle and a very large ring that is outside the window of your dot.. so you can't even see the ring until you're canted to the side and you can't see the dot--- so the ring will let you know which direction the dot is and so there is no hunting. I think it's exclusive for the holosun, but its really an innovation that all dots on pistols should have.
A lot of people like to talk crap about holosun because it's made in China but they really are great optics. I have the hs407c on my M&P 2.0 and a hs510c on my AR. I've had zero issues. And they both been heavily used. The battery life is amazing and the solar panels add even more to the battery life.
Thanks for the review. I just purchased this for my first pistol. I don't think I'll be disappointed. Was going to go for the full size, but was suggested that since I'm eventually going for a concealed carry that compact would be more practical.
I did the same thing, I just purchased this yesterday as my first firearm after looking at reviews of many different handguns and comparing the feel in my hands at the gun store. I love the style and the feel so it just felt right. I too went with the compact as I will soon get my CCL. After having it for a while now, what are your thoughts on it? And does it make for a good concealed carry?
@@pieman6178 you won't be disappointed. I only went went for my conceal carry class this past weekend, going to file with the state in August. Have an appendix IWB holster coming soon to see how it feels.May go with a SIG for my carry. Not sure yet on which. I have probably fired over 1000 rounds and only had 2 jams which was not cause by the PDP, it was the ammo.
I own the 4" (non-compact) version. And the gun is on another level above my Sig and Beretta. Trigger, accuracy and fit. I just ordered a Vortex Venom to attach to this bad boy.
I just ordered the 4.5'' ,can't wait to try it at the range, also new to red dot,so this was my first choice ,im a revolver guy but when I sen this pistol ,I knew I had to have one, great review mate.
Excellent video as usual. I just picked up a PDP compact. I've cleaned and lubricated it but have yet to use it at the gun range. I've dried fired it and the trigger appears to be just slightly lighter that my M&P 2.0 . I love the M&P cause I can shoot well with it so I expect to do just as good or better with the PDP. I look forward to next week when I go to the gun range. Thanks for the detailed information on the PDP.
That's funny I just came from Justin Opinion's review of the PDP and he said the sight gap on the PPQ was too wide and the PDP gap was perfect. To each their own I guess.
Thanks for sharing. I don't really understand why you would mount a Vortex Venom on a defensive pistol, when other red dots have the shake awake technology. Vortex red dots for carry pistols was yesteryears technology, but to each his own. The positive side is that you get to check each day if your your Vortex red dot is working when you turn it on each morning.
I tend to use the red-dots primarily for home defense and hunting (depending upon the gun) so the Vortex works well at a reasonable price for what I want it to do.
My first option out of a list of around 12 pistols - is the WALTHER PDP PRO SD with 9mm 18+1, Holosun 508T-RD-X2; and the Streamlight TLR-1HL. I spend several months and many hours on TH-cam listening to what others have to say about performance and reliability. Went to the range and test fired it. All I kept saying was "HOLY SHIT.....WOW" and I was very impressed with my shot group (no not the side of a barn). I say around 25 feet and paper targets. As all the commentators and firearms' enthusiast - The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol (in my opinion) stands out as a pinnacle of modularity and versatility in the world of duty pistols. With an array of features catering to customization and adaptability, this firearm exemplifies innovation in design. I love how it fits in my hands and the esthetics. Here's what I think about it's Performance: The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol delivers on its promise (watch the many videos - yes! on TH-cam) of being a duty-ready firearm. The combination of these features translates into a reliable and user-friendly shooting experience. The modularity not only enhances performance but also accommodates individual shooter preferences. Durability: Walther has a history of producing durable and reliable firearms, and the PDP PRO SD appears to continue this tradition. Quality materials and precision engineering contribute to the pistol's longevity, making it a reliable companion in various duty scenarios. Conclusion: The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and user-centric design. Its modular features, including the Picatinny rail, optics-ready capability, reversible mag release, and various customization options, make it an excellent choice for those seeking a duty pistol that adapts to their unique needs. Walther has successfully combined versatility with performance, resulting in a firearm that meets the high standards expected of a duty pistol. LASTLY: I say to always check for the latest reviews and user feedback (TH-cam) to ensure you get the latest up-to-date information on any weapon ....you paying for it. Might as well do your homework. - G
I liked this review, thorough and fair. I really like the PDP line up, compact with 5” barrel or full size, still undecided. And the VP9 lurks in the shadows.
I was able to get one right away 4 in model...too snappy for me. I will stick with my PPQ 5M which for me, much better for precision shooting. Going to give to my brother in Florida
I hope that you can have the opportunity to test the WALTHER F Series one of these days. Thanks for sharing quality review as always. Take care of yourself.
I was having issues with 'finding' my red dot when I first started using one for a pistol. I keep seeing (and trying the technics) the videos on how to draw and present to always find your reddot. It still wasn't consistant for me, then I tried ignoring that it has a reddot and presenting as I aways have with irons. Anyway, it worked for me, I bring it up as iron, but as soon as the dot shows up when presenting I switch my focus from lining up my irons with the target to the red dot on the target. It has helped me so maybe it will help someone else.
You do good videos. I was just in the process of buying one of these about 1 hour ago but I didn't have my carry permit. I will probably go back tommorrow and buy the 4.5 inch model
Thank you. Just search constantly and be ready when you find one at a price you are willing to pay to buy it then and there. Coming back 15 minutes later will likely result in seeing "Out of Stock".
Thanks for the information. My husband found one for $600.00. Not sure where he located it... He should have it in a week? Depends on shipping... We appreciate your reply. Happy Easter. God bless
So refreshing to FINALLY hear someone PROPERLY pronounce Walther! Might be a small petty thing to some, but I look at it like this: if you can't even pronounce your guns manufacturer correctly, you probably shouldn't be walking around with a firearm LOL. Anyway, just bought a PDP Compact Saturday and will be adding it to my card Monday (communist New York makes you have a license and register every handgun and 10-round mags and...well, NY sucks). I couldn't believe this was in stock at my local gun shop, but living in a small town has its advantages! They also usually have ammo too! I'll be taking it to the range on Tuesday (closed Mondays unfortunately), can't wait to shoot this! I have a PPQ SC and absolutely love it, but fell in love with this before even seeing it in person. I looked at it and drooled...then left with my ammo...then called and put a deposit on it, and an hour later went in and paid it off. Wife's not completely thrilled but she knows she's safe with me around LOL. I overpaid ($679) but they had it and I wanted it. So my mags have to be pinned to be NY compliant, so the only drawback I see is acquiring additional mags...is anyone aware of anyone who sells pinned mags for communist states like NY, MA and CA? Or would I have to buy 15-rounders and have then shipped to an FFL for modification? Not a huge deal, would just be more convenient at the range to not have to load every second mag, it's not going to be my EDC so that's not a concern (my EDC is a Sig P365). Thanks for the review, sweet gun, can't wait til...later today, hey it's after midnight so I get to pick it up today. 😁
Bought this pistol last weekend, haven't had the opportunity to fire it yet,I also will be going with the Vortex, have one on my FN FNX Tactical and am very happy with it
More people need to look into Not riding the re-set. But anyway, everyone seems to agree on the PDP and seems to have met everyones hopes or expectations.
Honestly, it looks like Walther did their homework and listen to its customers except for the high bore axis. Is the muzzle flip same as the PPQ and would like to see the PDP shooting next to the Glock, P10c, M&P 2.0, P320, VP9, Canik to really see the accuracy and recoil impluse.
This behaves almost exactly like a PPQ, I don't find the PPQ flip to be excessive. We definitely plan various comparisons with other guns in the same category.
Great video. Just two comments: I don't know how it's possible, but my PDP sights was also adjusted too low from factory. Everything low from the center of target... The second comment - everything is also interchangable between PPQ and PDP...
I like the feel of the PDP F 3.5” and I’m 6’2” with bigger hands but my issue is the guy at the gun store said the PDP Compact 4” would be better because I can get the smaller backstrap but the PDP F felt effortless to hold while the PDP compact with the larger backstrap felt like my hand was sliding up and down…which one should I go for? PDP F? Or PDP Compact with a smaller backstrap?
The PDP slide is too wide to fit any of the PPQ holsters I have. (Except an Uncle Mike's style.) And at this time, there aren't as many holster makers offering a kydex for the PDP.
@@Catgat37 Yes, you are correct in some situations. A person cannot put fit a 15-round Walther OR Canik mag in a Walther PDP Full-Size that is built to take the longer 18-round magazine.
How was the muzzle jump? I don't know if it is my imagination or not, but every video I see on the PDP it looks there is quite a bit of muzzle jump compared to some other guns out there. Otherwise, I'd like to give it a try since it looks like Walther got a lot right on this one.
Sadly the PDP has the same bore axis height as the PPQ/P99, that is it's pretty high. The one complaint that was almost universal, even among people who love the PPQ was that the bore axis created quite a lot of muzzle flip. I would have left behind all the new features of the PDP if they had addressed that one issue.
The only thing I dislike about what Walther did with PDP is their inconsistency with color of magazine follower. My 5” compact has them red, my 4” compact has them black. My friends compact came with blue ones. I ask why?
Great tech review but would have liked 2 C more shooting. I love Walthers! Maybe getting two.The 4" for EDC & 5" for competition. Also want 2.C a 1000 round review. Thx & Best Regards from Phx., Az. Robert P.S. daily high temps here have been averaging about 112 with HIGH humidity. Like being in a sweat box! LOL.
Unless the holster is leather it probably won't fit any ppq holster the slide is thick . I believe the sight and plate on the slide are Polymer. I don't like the ledge under the mag release On occasion when doing a quick mag change the ledge hinders me from pressing it completely. In my opinion the trigger on some of the caniks and cz p10 series might be better. I do like the serrations , the texture on the grip, good ergonomics and the overall look
This is definitely going to be my first handgun. It comes with all the things you would find on a custom glock. But right out of the box and for a lower price. No modification necessary.

If there's an academy near you, check. There's one by me and they have one for 599
I got mine at Scheel's for $649. Only one I could find in the state.
Thanks for the information. My husband found one for $600.00. Not sure where he located it... He should have it in a week? Depends on shipping...
We appreciate your reply. Happy Easter. God bless
Thanks. My husband found one for 600.00. 😀
Bought this pistol last weekend, haven't had the opportunity to fire it yet,I also will be going with the Vortex, have one on my FN FNX Tactical and am very happy with it
The PPQ was easy to accidentally double tap too. I can’t imagine a better trigger than the PPQ but I haven’t got my hands on a PDP yet.
I couldn't either...but i think they've done it.
I had 2 unintended double taps while riding the reset. I'm in love with the trigger.
Nice review. I've seen most and yours is very clear and specific.
Great review!! Straight to the point. My next handgun for sure!
Very nice gun. If I didn’t have a P07 and was in the market for a pistol, the PDP would be at the top of my list.
More people need to look into Not riding the re-set. But anyway, everyone seems to agree on the PDP and seems to have met everyones hopes or expectations.
i wish they would give the dealers the plates so they can just give you one when you buy it
Get yourself an Arex Delta. Comes with all the optic plates you need. Try to find a bad review of the handgun.
@@mrtdiver Honest Outlaw. He had lots of problems with the AREX Delta. Maybe it was a lemon, but he had issues.
Ordered a 4.5" today. Looking forward to it.
The reason it doesn't come with plates out of box is because they're having C&H as their OEM; they're currently listed at $70 on their site.
Also saves them from having to make a ton of plates that won't get used.
Great video very informative and thanks for sharing!
Thank you.
You do a very good comprehensive review and why I subscribed
Like the sig m2022 fits me well shoots great, like it better than all the other sigs including the legion
Nice gun but I'm still shopping around for a P99
Good shots!!! Thanks for the video
Very nice review and pistol it looks well thought out and it shoots very well. Great job 👌
Great review. This gun is really similar to the sig p320x compact. Which I already have. Otherwise, I'd purchase the pdp.
Thank you.
Very nice review... waiting for my local shop to get them in stock.... definitely subscribed! Looking forward to more videos.
The canik shoots well but....pdp beats it, had one lol HAD ONE
Thank You for your always great reviews!
Great review. Any word on the Vortex Venom optics plate yet?
Thank you. Still have not seen it or had any communication about it.
I have the full size pdp love this gun
Great video. Just two comments: I don't know how it's possible, but my PDP sights was also adjusted too low from factory. Everything low from the center of target... The second comment - everything is also interchangable between PPQ and PDP...
Guess what it also runs with Sig 226 and Canick magizine
I like the Walther ppx40cal m1 and the rest of the family 😊
Canik TP9 series magazines will work in the Walther PDP series and vice versa
Really depends. My compact walther mags will not fit my Canik (too short).
@@Catgat37 Yes, you are correct in some situations. A person cannot put fit a 15-round Walther OR Canik mag in a Walther PDP Full-Size that is built to take the longer 18-round magazine.
Can you recommend a holster? I can't find a holster at all for the full size 5 inch... Im so annoyed!
I'll take anything at this point.
What a sexy pistol, I have the 4.5 and NEED the compact!
Nice review I have the compact with a 5 inch barrel. Now seriously have you tried to buy mags lately? Nothing out there all sold out! Bummer.
Thank you. Mags and ammo are near impossible to find.
Found some at my local gun shop, about 6-8 in stock, $45/ea ... Near Kings Island (Lebanon, Ohio)
Snappy
Thanks for your knowledge.
Where the video with the red dot on the PDP? I’d like your thoughts.
IDK if it's just me but that is one sexy gun . I'm going to have to pick one up .
You should get a FN 509 Edge, P320 AXG Pro, VP9L, 5" M&P m2.0 performance
I have the compact and the full size. The PDP is a great firearm.
Which version do you prefer to carry or do you EDC one of your PDP’s? Thanks
@@JEMCaptain I like the full size.
@@dwillhight which holster works good for you with the full size for EDC? Thanks
The only thing I dislike about what Walther did with PDP is their inconsistency with color of magazine follower. My 5” compact has them red, my 4” compact has them black. My friends compact came with blue ones. I ask why?
Does your friend have a 3.5" or a pdp-f?
@@rondobrondo He got his before F even came out
Thank you! I was wondering if the PPQ mags can fit inside. Waiting for release for my pdp to take home
Yes ppq m2 pattern mags work. M1 and p99 use a different magazine release cut
I love my glock 19 but this walther is thicker. Is it thicker in the grip or just thicker because of the abi slide stop?
I’ve never cleaned a new gun before shooting it never had any issues 🤷♂️ To each it’s own
Got to with staccatos 🤣
It’s a myth but ok 🤷♂️
Great review as always. In your opinion, which model is better: FN509 or Walther PDP?
Thank you. The PDP definitely has a nicer trigger, the FN509 has a longer track record. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
That 509 is a very nice pistol!
In your opinion would you say this would be a good concealed carry option?
Hey man great content which targets are those?
Love the gun nice video man thanks this gun is hands down better than a Glock I'm not big on accessories
Thank you.
beautiful gun and nice review
Thank you.
Great tech review but would have liked 2 C more shooting. I love Walthers! Maybe getting two.The 4" for EDC & 5" for competition. Also want 2.C a 1000 round review.
Thx & Best Regards from Phx., Az.
Robert
P.S. daily high temps here have been averaging about 112 with HIGH humidity. Like being in a sweat box! LOL.
I own the PPQ my best gun love it.❤
Great review...I am getting one
Unless the holster is leather it probably won't fit any ppq holster the slide is thick . I believe the sight and plate on the slide are Polymer. I don't like the ledge under the mag release On occasion when doing a quick mag change the ledge hinders me from pressing it completely. In my opinion the trigger on some of the caniks and cz p10 series might be better. I do like the serrations , the texture on the grip, good ergonomics and the overall look
Good job! Thanks a lot.
Is the plate for the PDP compatible with the plate for the PPQ in regards to the red dot?
Just curious how many yards were you shooting free?
Wishing for other calibers from this platform.
I enjoyed this thank you
Thank you.
Great review!
Thanks buddy enjoyed the video
what do you call that green tube light, thx
