    Thank you. That was an epic undertaking, but what was needed to really get to know how the Simplex reacts to different coins. That is why you have The goto channel for real data. I bet your an awesome teacher.

    I just want to take a moment to compliment you on your videos. I am brand spanking new to this hobby and I have found your videos to be the most helpful to date. I live in one of the oldest incorporated towns in Southern New England established in 1641, I also spend a good deal of time in South Carolina at Surfside Beach. I did my homework the best I could and bought a Nokta Simplex with wireless, and the Nokta pulse dive pin-pointer. Hopefully it will serve me well relic hunting in the colonial fields around my home, and on the beach next month in SC. Thanks again for your very informative and often humorous videos. Cheers from New England.

    Very informative. Can't wait to see the next video. One thing to keep in mind... as the target gets deeper, the VDI number changes. It would be interesting to see you show some of this in your testing.

    This video was extremely helpful. I liken it to metal detecting science. I carefully took down all the ranges and put them into a spreadsheet, once done with that I'll watch the jewelry video and do the same. i noticed that you did not have this for download on your website as you refereed in the video, I'd be happy to send it to you once I complete the spreadsheet though it's in open office and not Excell. Waiting for my Simplex that i ordered on your advice from Amazon for an astounding 199.99! Have some experience with a Garett 2000 but i was very very unhappy with it for many reasons. ty for the great videos!!!

    I just bought a gold kruzer for prospecting, and I took it out to try coin shooting and it doesn't pick up coins well at all. I tried buyring a quarter at 4 inches and it wouldn't hit it all. Even in all metal mode. Maybe it's place is gold hunting. Would you recommend this simplex for a beginner? It seems to hit deep and all the targets

    Injoy your video.
    I tell to right up front, I don't think I'll buy another Simplex. I purchase mine Simplex+ around Christmas 2022. The problem is they still didn't have all the bugs out of it and was outdated within 4 months I purchase it. Nothing matches. The ultra has the Legends headphones, different coils. Don't get me wrong, I like the Simplex +, I think I'm just ready to taking it up a notch.

    You know I love my Simplex-you talked me into buying it! But I spotted a boo boo-you said you were doing the test in Park 1 but I noticed at the Barber dimes and probably before on the screen you are in all metal ..so I rewatched and it appears you were in all metal from everything after the first silver dime.
    Also, which coil makes a difference.
    PS I’ve been using Boom chakka LAKKA boom for over a year 😂

    You should try the SP24 coil. I find the VDI is purty much the same except for nickels. My standard coil was around 25. With the 24 coil, the VDI was 30 to 31.

    With cents, the mint was consistently inconsistent with white metal portion of the alloy after the change to "bronze" in 1864. The tin was mixed with, and changed out for zinc variably over the years until they obviously became "brass." Then there was the steel experiment in 1943, and the recycled shell case alloys that came thereafter.

    Now this may sounds off the wall a bit , but the local lake I hunt has there floats across the lake at the 5 foot mark and under certain portions of those floats are small concrete pads I'm assuming with rebar in them . I run the coil over them while in the water and every time they ring up like a good solid target and a reading of 88 to 91. same with large iron.????

    • @Osmiculture
      @Osmiculture 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MetalDetectingNYC Bit of a stoopid question, but are the numbers the same across all modes? I'm in Europe, and almost always use Park 1 mode on max sensitivity for depth (with iron on 1 bar) and only switch to all metal if a signal is there but fleeting. I don't bother to really to guess and get hopeful about a target unless it's sharp and/or above 90 (milled silver) as there's such a spectrum of old and thin coins down to 17/18. Romans can be 80 then again they can be much lower (30 to 40). It's interesting to see how you can get fixed on VDI when coin types have been very fixed for a long while, but here it's '...meeh'. I do however like the fact that they've given the Simplex VDIs up to 100, whereas the VDIs on most high end detectors seem to go up to 40/50.

      @MetalDetectingNYC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be completely honest Fisher is the only major brand that I have never bought a detector from. Having that said I cannot accurately assess that machine. Personally I would stay away from older models of detectors because the ability to separate has come so far!

  • @normandoster5373

    Merrill, possibly where the silver, copper etc. Was mined causes a spike in the vdi#???

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unsure of the answer of that. We can only speculate. Personally I think it was an uneven distribution of materials. Like a pancake that gets a little more egg than other pancakes.

    Thank you for your great (and fun) video! I just started my metal detecting hobby by buying the Simplex- but since I'm so tiny and not that strong, I just got the carbon fiber lower shaft and the lighter SP24 (every ounce matters to me)... my question to you is, is there a difference in ID numbers with the SP24 as opposed to the stock coil? Thanks!

  • @jbrian53
    @jbrian53 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've dug a lot of war nickels and about 10% of them have read higher. What I've heard speculated is there's some non-silver leeching out of the coin in the ground. Indeed, many war nickels have that black tar-like tarnish when dug. I suppose the answer would to test war nickels that have never been in the ground. If they vary the same way, then it must be a minting issue. If they don't, then it's interaction with the dirt.

    I most generally alway seek deep coins, and I'm finding most deep coins with scratchy broken signals in 94 to 98 vdi range,,even nickles. 1928 11" Buffulo was a hitting into that range also. I buried a copper penny at pinpointer depth at 9" and same results. This is 2.78 version. It's a very jumpy target ID machine,,unless they are shallow. Curious if the Legend will have same behaviors? It's actually a time consuming machine,,still debating on keeping it for deep seeker machine though, been thinking it struggles on locking on deep higher conductors. It seems hit and miss and miss is winning. Hmmmmmm

    Still all boils down to where you are detecting. In a park where there is a lot of parting, you could get flip tops instead of silver or clad coins for all that matters. And it depends on coil size as well as version. I use version 2.78 and the 24 inch elliptical coil which is supposed to have the same VDI's as the Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi. In conclusion, did them all.

  • @snarky_user
    @snarky_user 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The war nickels had a terrible reputation with regard to alloy consistency. The manganese did not play well with other admixtures. A common occurrence with war nickels is 'delamination,' whereby the metals form concentrations and the coin fissures and splits along these discontinuities. You can often see this in the color of the coins, where little bits of varying alloy yield a mottled running pattern. And, oh, yes - they are 35% silver, not 40%.

      I am stuck on Park 1. I have the impression the faster recovery on park 2 doesn't catch stuff that I get on park 1, although I am often in pasture/ploughed fields and am rarely in iron polluted zones. Isn't Park 2 just the older setting before the recent updates?

      @@joeslife3303 I don't believe it is, as the VDI numbers are replaced with concentric circles (the more, the deeper it is).
