    You should always spray down 3D printed gears with something like PTFE dry lube or something similar it will allow the gears to interface a lot easier. Other lubricants may also work I just don't have any experience with them so I can't recommend

    Most planetary gear systems that I’ve seen are used for reducing speeds and increasing torque, but it’s cool to see an application the other way around too!

    Good place to source planetary gears is the scrap yard. There are at least several in a given automatic transmission. And most times they are still in good shape just forgotten about. Example, a GM 4l60 (700r4) or variants, are ripe with planetary gears. Also has other useful bits of kit a maker could do all sorts with. Just a thought

    I found servo motors made by kag rated at 500watt which spin @2000 rpm with 24v dc input. There is a rotary encoder on the back, which could be pulled out and paralleled with 6mm to 6mm(shaft size) coupler.
    The best thing about this motor is it priced around $4-6 and the stock is plenty. The motor was salvaged from old atm machine. I already bought 2 of these and the condition was very good.
    I got a request to build a solar plant for a buddhist monastery, i propose wind turbine since the location is quite windy. The plan is to use the impeller similar to the one on vid 1997 housed in wind catcher device seen on vid 1999. For bearings i will use a slice of 15mm ptfe rod drilled in the middle housed in fiberglass housing.
    The impeller will be made from fiber/carbon composite, the housing would be made from aluminium sheet, and fiberglass with hollow galvanized square section. I might use stainless bolt instead of welding to avoid corrotion on welding points.
    Still haven't decide on gearbox, but I am thinking two stage of 10mm 12t gt2 pulley paired with 60t. Or any combination adjusted on how the system behave on site.
    If my proposal accepted i will keep detailed documentation. If they insist on solar plant, i will build solar follower panel. The motor would be powered from pelton impeller, and secretly injected to the battery pack using schottky diode😅. I would gather data on power generation using esp8266 and or esp32 cam connected to esp32 cam cloud wifi cctv system which also part of the offering.

      @@ThinkingandTinkering I hope my proposal accepted, i am in indonesia. The small monastery called "pusdiklat jinaputra" located in malang regency, easy java. There is some pics avaliable on google maps.
      The monks only need electricity for basics needs, not much. There already static solar panel installed from donations, which i will modify to track sun. The wind catcher will provide eletricity when it is cloudy or raining, which is quite often here. I also requested to fix water purification installation which did not meet standards on tds, nitrate and e-coli.
      It is around 800km drive from my place, my car would be stacked with parts since i did not know the condition there. I will bring my cnc router and a corexy 3d printer just in case. The 3d printer would be donated.
      The strage things is that there is a uni nearby but they called me who only learn from youtube and free research papers. I only got degree in finance and master in economics, my previous job was equity analyst/economist in an asset management company🤦

    Hey Robert! Have you ever seen a brushless motor/gen with 7 magnets on rotor?! I’m currently testing a modified alternator with a 7 magnet rotor made for a wind turbine that I found in a scrap pile! Never seen a motor with odd number of magnets all in the same orientation like this, very interesting. I hooked it up to a BLDC controller and the torque this thing has is crazy strong! It operates very smoothly and quietly too! I’ll have to get a 3- phase rectifier set up to test its power generation too but at this point I’m thinking it would do well in a e-motorcycle or something!

      @maukaman 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ThinkingandTinkering It seems to create an alternating magnetic flux because the opposite polarity extends through the rotor from the magnets opposite side, which seems to be possible because of the odd number of them. I’m surprised how beautifully it runs as a motor really. Only issue I see is that the shaft actually has a magnetic pull to it, I assume from the flux not being canceled out. That might cause it to pick up metal bits which could be problematic.

    I' m always on a critical path! So I try to give jolly input with a deeper though! The gearbox need real good stability and a great torque and to be served regular! This is one path to a great windmill! But to see a rim output we have the same results in a steady way! The machine is easier to build, manage the weather better and is build from the car junkyard to app. 80%! Your idea is a step near the goal or can we get a better way ta good results? What about Newmans motors in the centre build from "laser printer colour cartridge" take the magnet from it and do an upper and lower motor! And on the rim double up with Bedini's! Now in low wind our VAWT or HAWT work like a kinetic battery! And the effect I Think now is much better to take out on one way in a few layer in the rim! But I love your way of take down solutions how work, and let us think in a community-way! And we do not need one solution the best is always from a work in competition and testing and try your hand at it for the best ways! Love your film, have a good day Robert!

    I do enjoy your videos, so don't want you to think I'm being critical. My question is - If you put the same amount of energy into spining the unmodified motor, wouldn't you get a similar amount of energy out of it? Possibly more, due to losses through the gearbox?

    what about imputing on the system on the ring? to my knolage planetary gears have the cool mechanic that you define the input, output, and mount there is the: 1 : 27 mounting on the ring, 27 : 1 mounting on the ring, then there is the reverse by mounting on the "sun" and inputting on the ring

    I wonder if you put a plate made of rigid aluminum or copper plate was coated in graphene and placed suspended in air in your attic. Then using a circuit of either diode bridges in series with the outputs in parallel circuit board could be made of tens of watts. I don't know if chokes or inductors would be needed across the ac side of the bridge diodes or if you using pulsed ground circuit with a electronic switch to get more power. Or if it would be better to use avalanche diodes to get some power out by an oscillator circuit that opened and closed the ground connection? Just thinking of something sorry.

    It seems everybody is hung up on VOLTAGE. Power is what should be the concern. The size of a wind turbine for the most part gives you an idea of the power you can extract from the wind. Build everything as good as can be and you can never exceed the "power-in-the-wind".
    The HAWT will give you the most power. Putting objects near or in the path of the wind only increases turbulence which decreases the wind power available to your turbine. Of course we all know this.

    Rob, how much heat is generated by these motors you are making? I'd be interested in using them but I don't know if they'd hold up in prolonged use. Perhaps when you are testing them you could use a thermal camera to see what kinda temps we're dealing with?

      it wouldn't achieve much mate and t would make t electrically very complicated - it can be done - with slip rings say - but the same effect would be had by doubling the gearing and that's easier

  • @Xero1of1
    @Xero1of1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is there anything you can do about the friction? I feel like if you could reduce the friction by a large amount and then put a large weight on the output, you'd have a pretty good flywheel setup, though you'd probably also need some sort of slip system on the input so the handle doesn't continue turning when you let go...

    • @woolymittens
      @woolymittens 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Speaking of friction, what's the point of the "housing" having a ridged interior that meshes with the various planet gears? That serves no purpose whatsoever and simply adds a MASSIVE amount of friction. Better to have the housing interior smooth, withj a slight clearance between the planets and the housing.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering

Does electric cars really want to save the planet or create another business segment and capture market share using climate change reason? because year ago I have sent one ground baking invention to tesla management to increase run time of electric vehicles but no response. every moving object has opposite aero dynamic force, using archimedes wind turbine, right generator it is very easy to charge battery therefore no need to stop by charging station. May be I am Indian who suggested. that could be the reason they have ignored.
