For those wondering, tape modding doesn't work as an alternative. I tried and the graph stayed the same as not having any plug. You are required to use the provided bass plug to get more bass.
tried too... doesn't work, and I got mad... a TAPE to have a 100 USD IEM sound normal ?!?! no way.... why didn't you make this video 10 days ago? I would have saved my money :) thanks Timmy, next time I spend the money on your channel instead of buying blindly!
Chu 2 has the filter swap system and they sound AMAZING AF for 20 bucks. Like a budget kato. I was floored. (No. Not as good as kato but around 70-80ish percent of the way there. Which is quite impressive given the price of it.)
Well, even as an SSR fan, I still don't like the Starfield 2. The note weight and timbre of Starfield 2 are somewhat unnatural. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one having trouble with the stupidly small bass plug. I only managed to put in one full plug myself and couldn't be bothered to try more.
The problem with moondrop is they got successful selling slight variations on a house signature in ever nicer packages, which worked when the industry was rife with unrefined tunings, but that isn't how things are now. Nothing moondrop has done lately on a tuning or technical level has been that impressive, while their competitors can deliver just as good, actually more interesting tunings with good technicals for less money with better QC. Moondrop just doesn't stand out like it used to; Even the Blessing 3 couldn't bring back the hype because even though the technical improvements are nice the tuning needs works in many people's opinion. And how impressive is the isobaric 2DD really when more exotic DD configurations are becoming pretty common in that price range now? You have to come up with something a lot more unique to sway people from just getting a Performer 5 or staying in the
I love these reviews. I won't be able to get these in India as older starfield were $127 on discount but taking PPP it would be around $456 for me. Planning to get the Aria but just love these videos. Love you Timmy 🌻. Good going.
if you look very closely, the plug thing only fit 1 way, it has 1 thick/higher side and the other side is thin thicker side at the nozzle take me 10 minute to figure it out mine fit perfect, sorry I am very bad at English
🥰SSR 2!!! Yes, I know I'm in the minority but I have been asking for this since I listened to the SSR, a better set with a similar tuning that wouldn't break the bank.
If there's one thing I love in my IEMs, it's what other people refer to as "shouty". I actually prefer listening to both my CHU and Blue Zero over my Kato due to the tuning, but I'm actually intrigued by the Starfield 2. It has more midbass than I prefer, but the upper midrange and treble tuning make me think I might actually like it more than the Kato. I wasn't interested in the original Starfield at all, but I really want to try this one.
A lot of people call anything with significant presence past the upper mids to be "shouty", but to me shouty means uneven upper mids and lower treble response, usually spikes that when combined with lower-mid and bass scoops give the impression of a shrill vocal region being pushed too far in the mix. The Chu to me isn't shouty, it's lean and clean. The EA500 isn't shouty, it just has lower-high emphasis that is tastefully backed up by good note weight lower down. A stock CRA or T3+ can be shouty but EQ fixes it well. Some IEMs are shouty on an almost timbral level that I've found it hard to fix with EQ; KZ EDX line (1DD mountain range) and the sennheiser IE200 (plastic-y SPD driver) immediately come to mind. Bright-leaning doesn't have to mean shouty, it's just many shouty IEMs are also bright-leaning or badly done v-shapes. The KATO was impressive for the time and the build is nice but I don't think it makes sense in 2023 for a $200 1DD to have such rolled off highs. And ultimately I don't think the KATO did much that the Oxygen didn't do before, and to me the EA500 is better than both.
Kinda sad after hearing this because I really loved the design and made me want to buy purely off design choices but I've heard the Aria 2's in store and really love them so probably gonna get the Aria 2's.
I'm personally a huge fan of the ssp and the tuning looks super similar so I might give this a go one of these days, if not just because it looks nice and has that removable nozzle
Honestly I'm lost. I already spent two full days searching for a normal Moondrop IEM from 40 dollar to 110 dollar and nothing. I read an insane amount of reviews and 99% of the Moondrop products are either has a paint chipping problem or the build quality is bad and the other 1% is just bad bass and sound quality. I checked, Moondrop Lan, Moondrop May, Moondrop Starfield 2, Moondrop Stellaris 2, Moondrop Aria, Aria SE and Aria 2. The only normal I have found was the Lan, Aria 2 wich has paint chipping problem, Aria SE with Paint Chipping problem +they are discontinued, and Moondrop May wich just looks bad in design. If I would have to choose between Lan, May, Aria SE and Aria 2 wich one should I choose if I mainly want to use the IEM for pc gaming and mobile music listening. I will not be using any kind of AMP or DAC. Any recommendation?
Thanks a lot for providing us this video with your honest professional comments like always. I'm feeling very lucky that I had watched this video before I make my final purchasing decision, otherwise I'll be really regret.
Ayo my bro timmy these iems seem a bit more boring recently but something caught my eye. So just now i saw the graph of another moondrop iem that came out which was the space travel, and knowing that it targets a market that i’ve been seeking for years (budget competitive true wireless) and it being actually good in the graph i saw, i kinda wanted a review from u cuz i trust u and ur preferences. Plzz make a vid on it soon i might plan to grab it depending on ur verdict.
Also i wonder if u got ur hands on moondrop’s 7th anniversary iem (beautiful world) and also the solis 2. So many things that I’m waiting for that can be a potential W
I was pleasantly surprised by the Starfield 2. I worried I made a mistake seeing only negative impressions after ordering, but hearing for myself I quite like its energetic sound and excellent resolution. Without plugs I thought its bass was already forward and then tried the plugs. I didn't have as much trouble with them. The full plug made bass thumps disturbingly hard and half plugs (despite the graph) did add a touch more body to the bottom end.
might be a side comments, but I always though your wife is a japanese but she doesn't sounds like one. I think the starfield two is just a DD implementation of stellaris, ssr was a disaster on most people's ear
HBB said yesterday, that Moondrop is mailing it. Very sad how they're being lazy and relying on their brand recognition and previous success to pump out poorly tuned, overpriced IEMs recently.
Have no idea what Moondrop is smoking with these new recent releases. They're really shooting themselves in the foot with these "nice" looking IEMs but mediocre shouty sound.
i mean why even pos this as a review? no sharing any comparisons force us yo just take your opinion without leaving anything for the viewers to get any tangible info.

What I suspect with the graph, it has more energy in 1-2k than ssr
What you trying them with?
starfield was a budget legend and decided to change the tunning
chu was a budget legend and decided to change the tuning...
I thought this is "not good" after watching hbb's review,

Very nice review. It is good to criticize openly like that when they deserve it.

Hello from Thailand. Thank for the review. I’m gonna skipping this one and wait for the variation 2 or blessing 3 dusk then.
