I’m not a die hard esports fan or follower but I really enjoy watching these matches lately. I have to say I’m super impressed with the bearing displayed by the Korean players every game, they look completely unfazed by any loss and totally humble with every victory. Never gloating or panicking, I have to give my respect where it’s due! 🤙🏻
Nydus will get nerfed for sure. BUT Zerg is only stronger on the top level in my opinion, and the nerfs should also be aimed to affect the top scene and not the amateur league. In Masters 1 and below, the zerg players struggle much on macroing and defending at same time, and early agression will often be instant loss for zerg in either ways. From own experience it is very easy to play terran and toss compared to zerg. I’m diamond with all of them and played 95% of games as zerg.
Bauer T Age absolutely matters when it comes to video games. That’s a silly thing to say. Age matters in nearly everything competitive. He’s already beat some of the best in the world. Also Serral beat the Koreans for a while.
If only serral had used vipers. Engaging lurkers withouth blinding cloud is suicide :c It seems he either forgot or he wasn't as good with that style as he is with others. In any case, Serrals vs Reynor is always fun to watch, although I would like to see better games with different matchups (zvp, zvt). Let's hope the game is better balanced next year, with the nydus and infestor changes.
@steve kim As a 'foreigner' I can tell you it doesn't make a difference to me what nationality the winner is lol, I'm more aware of what's happening in the EU/US scene so I know the players and am a fan of many of them and ya I would have been much happier to see Serral in this match because I don't think this match played out very well, Raynor got basically run over to be honest (No offense, he's obviously a very good player but I don't think he was fully prepared for a match of this scale against such a seasoned opponent) and if the match had been against Serral it would have been a much closer and exciting game.
ZvT statistics (from Liquipedia): Zergs won 85.7% of the maps. ZvP: Zergs won 61.5% of the maps. The only times a non-Zerg defeated a Zerg was Trap beating Elazer (twice) and Classic beating Rogue.
Too bad we didn't see a Serral vs Dark. They are the real top player, imho; Reynor just knows Serral incredibly well and has a phycological advantage. Not that Reynor is not a absolute beast, but I still think that Serral is the best player in the world.
If Reynor doesn't get crushed by this then I think he's going to come back to be the next world champion because he has the natural talent and just needs to expand his experience

Nydus + Swarm Host is utterly broken, you have a unit that in and of itself can spawn large high-damage armies on repeat every minute or two, then give it the capability to teleport around the map to dump said armies on key points... it's like playing against artillery spam in Supreme Commander, there's just simply no way to defend against it
@AJ Increase the cost of Nydus Networks by a lot and you'll see less spam of them. All you'd have to worry about is spotting the first two or so Nydus's before it's too costly to make more just to lose them. Then the player who defended can counterattack as the Swarmhost/Nydus player invested a lot of resources into failed Nydus attacks.
I'm honestly saddened that pros don't get really excited that they just won a tournament. Seriously, I mean golfers get more excited when they nail a good shot.

it was more of an forcing enemy to react that mutalisk... Dark was really good on mind games and he studied his opponent well. also if you look closely, Dark always starts faster than Reynor, the mineral is always one tick higher, and advantage is advantage.
Dark looked so strong , absolutely crushing his opponents. My favorite moment is when camera cuts to him and he casually one finger pokes a key. Moving so fast it looks slow mo
reynor did great, im so happy he got this far and he played super well generally throughout the tournament. that being said, im kinda disappointed he did this badly against dark; dark is certainly an amazing player but its kind of anticlimactic seeing such a brutal loss after reynor beat serral. props to dark, but still lowkey disappointed reynor didnt put up as much as a fight as he did against serral.
/sign It seems like Dark want it so much more to get the title. It feels to me a little bit like Reynor was so happy after his win against serral, that he has believed that from there on he will win against every other player easily. Then he get his first Dark punch and you could see in his face, that he was unable to cope or maybe didn#T have the energy for that anymore.

Reynor was obsessed with beating Serral. Has been for quite sometime now. So he studied Serral, perfected his game against Serral (as much as such a thing is possible, really) and got absolutely dismantled by tactics like these.

Had Serral made it would have routed for him but Dark it is. Sort of taking this year with a pinch of salt with how sloppy some players were but can't wait for next year to see if it is truly the coming pattern.
Don't know how true this is or not, but I think some of this finals might come down to double jet lag exhaustion. Serral and Reynor, both from EU, were first sent to Korea for group stage, and then a week later to NA. Jet lag is already real, but this just got doubled. Combine this with a 12 hour playoffs mere days later where you play EVERYTHING in one day, I think both Serral and Reynor just burned out, which is why Serral felt off vs Reynor and Reynor got bopped afterwards. This would also explain Serral's dominance vs soO in the first match of the day. (I could still be wrong, but this is what I think. I hope it's not true, for the sake of the players) Even if this is not true, I think next year the group stages should still just be set in NA and the quarterfinals should be separated into another day and semifinals + finals to the following day, like it used to be. SC2 is a hard game and needs preparation, concentration and a fresh mind, but if you torture the players unhealthily like this, things like this could happen.
it mustve taken such a toll on both of them, reynor probably had more energy than serral due to Being Younger but he just looks so burnt out throughout the finals lmao (1:24:50). also the korean group stage times absolutely ruined everybody who isn't from korea; i wouldve had to stay up until 5am to watch the whole thing and that's when i usually wake up lmao

I think Maru took Life to game 7 whereas Maru got rolled by Dark. I'd say Dark is better than Life was. While Dark is my least favorite player due to his attitude, he's at least doesn't throw matches for money.

@ classic is the sickest don't get me wrong, but his plays require lots of prep time. When he's given that time he reaches the finals of gsl taking down both rogue and dark, but this time around it looked like beating both players back to back was too much to ask.
I think its worth noting that the 3-2 against serral was probably the best game in this series. Because Reynor did not use the cheeky strategies that are often employed. No, he fought serral in a straight up ZvZ and came out on top. Not many people can say the same

I don't play this game but it's interesting to watch. In round 3 how did Reynor get a victory judy by defensing an attack? I thought Dark still had buildings left?
he sacrificed all his resources and drones to attack in the first minute, it didn't pay off so he surrendered since he had zero drone, zero minerals, zero everything while reynor still had half of everything
They should probably nerf the nydus a bit, which they are doing but still maybe a bit too strong right cuz it basically can teleport units instantly from one side to the other. Maybe some traveltime dependent on distance?
Serral went for funky strats in semifinals but he is clearly better than reynor, if he had played more standard he would have gone into finals and probably won
I'd agree Serral would put up a better fight, but Dark perfectly beat everybody excluding his drone rush. If Serral was beaten even once by someone Dark made look like a bronze league, he stood no chance either way.

I'm a beginner so it might be a silly question but: why didn't they try to hit the enemy's resources when they could, for example at the very first raid in the first match with zerglings or a little bit later using the flying units that I don't know how to call in English 'cause I'm Italian. Why all the Reynor hate? Sure he didn't show well in the Finals but hes young. He has some incredible rounds and he has some where his age shows. Just to get to the finals at 17 up against the titans of the game is impressive and in a few years HE will be the titan everyone else looks up to.

Well, Reynor got absolutely demolished in every normal game that was played in this series. Super one sided. I know it's baseless speculation but I somehow feel that if Serral went through this would have been a more even match. At least that's what I was hoping for. But Reynor beat him so who knows...

I'm a huge Reynor Fan from the very first games i have watched. The win against Serral has been amazing and yes the loss against Dark is some kind of a dissapointment. But honestly if you look at the whole season dark deserve this title. He has put so much hard work since his loss in 2016 that i even as a huge Reynor Fan grant his this title. Overall it has been one of the not so good Blizzcons. The lack of InControl (RIP will miss him a lot), the lack of the analysis between the matches from the couch (and not only from the 2 mods), the time of the Round of 16 (please don't do this ever again, for me as a european it is really hard to stand up 5' am :) )....and finally: Way to much matches onesided and even if Zerg is my favorite race, i really hope that the balance will be getting better. And i don't say that as a player, i only say that as a viewer ;)

Serral and Reynor, both from EU, were first sent to Korea for group stage, and then a week later to NA. Jet lag is already real, but this just got doubled. Combine this with a 12 hour playoffs mere days later where you play EVERYTHING in one day, I think both Serral and Reynor just burned out, which is why Serral felt off vs Reynor and Reynor got bopped afterwards. This would also explain Serral's dominance vs soO in the first match of the day. (I could still be wrong, but this is what I think. I hope it's not true, for the sake of the players)
Even if this is not true, I think next year the group stages should still just be set in NA and the quarterfinals should be separated into another day and semifinals + finals to the following day, like it used to be. SC2 is a hard game and needs preparation, concentration and a fresh mind, but if you torture the players unhealthily like this, things like this could happen.
it mustve taken such a toll on both of them, reynor probably had more energy than serral due to Being Younger but he just looks so burnt out throughout the finals lmao (1:24:50). also the korean group stage times absolutely ruined everybody who isn't from korea; i wouldve had to stay up until 5am to watch the whole thing and that's when i usually wake up lmao

@@langlangdunia It's not prize money that makes a tournament World Championship caliber, but the competition. There were 3 Koreans at this tournament, with 50% of players seeded lower than WCS Circuit Ro16 level. WESG is not comparable with IEM or Blizzcon in terms of competition.

I think Maru took Life to game 7 whereas Maru got rolled by Dark. I'd say Dark is better than Life was. While Dark is my least favorite player due to his attitude, he's at least doesn't throw matches for money.
@@oyindaowoeye467 Was during a different time and Meta. Terran was a lot stronger back when Life was playing. Nobody has micro skills like Life. At Least with Zerglings. Dark is good at Nydus harass. Nydus wasn't viable when Life played.

@ classic is the sickest don't get me wrong, but his plays require lots of prep time. When he's given that time he reaches the finals of gsl taking down both rogue and dark, but this time around it looked like beating both players back to back was too much to ask.
I think its worth noting that the 3-2 against serral was probably the best game in this series. Because Reynor did not use the cheeky strategies that are often employed. No, he fought serral in a straight up ZvZ and came out on top. Not many people can say the same

They should probably nerf the nydus a bit, which they are doing but still maybe a bit too strong right cuz it basically can teleport units instantly from one side to the other. Maybe some traveltime dependent on distance?

Serral went for funky strats in semifinals but he is clearly better than reynor, if he had played more standard he would have gone into finals and probably won
I'd agree Serral would put up a better fight, but Dark perfectly beat everybody excluding his drone rush. If Serral was beaten even once by someone Dark made look like a bronze league, he stood no chance either way.

Why all the Reynor hate? Sure he didn't show well in the Finals but hes young. He has some incredible rounds and he has some where his age shows. Just to get to the finals at 17 up against the titans of the game is impressive and in a few years HE will be the titan everyone else looks up to.

Zvz yet again. Every time I say Zerg is op I get flamed but honestly Zerg is OP. Pound for pound skill wise I just can’t think of anyone better than Maru but there’s no answer to mid-late game Zerg. I think blizzard doesn’t even care about this game anymore. So sad.

I'm a huge Reynor Fan from the very first games i have watched. The win against Serral has been amazing and yes the loss against Dark is some kind of a dissapointment. But honestly if you look at the whole season dark deserve this title. He has put so much hard work since his loss in 2016 that i even as a huge Reynor Fan grant his this title. Overall it has been one of the not so good Blizzcons. The lack of InControl (RIP will miss him a lot), the lack of the analysis between the matches from the couch (and not only from the 2 mods), the time of the Round of 16 (please don't do this ever again, for me as a european it is really hard to stand up 5' am :) )....and finally: Way to much matches onesided and even if Zerg is my favorite race, i really hope that the balance will be getting better. And i don't say that as a player, i only say that as a viewer ;)

The boycott isn’t the reason. The audience size for SC2 has been on the decline for years. Also not many new talent are trying to make it into the SC2 scene. As much as I love SC2, it is definitely not what it used to be popularity-wise.
