Hi Giselle. I'm actually writing you from not too far from where your spiritual ancestors started Hutterism! It is with both pleasure and some sorrow that I watch your videos, as my dear old dad (Simon Evans) researched Hutterite life in Canada for most of his life, and he would have LOVED to have seen your videos. Sadly he died a few years ago, just as he was about to publish a big book about the Hutterites in North America. I ended up being the one who edited it and helped it get published, so I now know way more about Hutterites than I ever thought possible! I think for many people you guys still can seem quite mysterious, and there are still a lot of misconceptions, so it is really amazing that you are doing this. Obviously you cannot be a spokesperson for the entire huge community, and there are SIGNIFICANT differences in terms of "strictness" between the different Leuts, but it really helps build bridges to the outside community. I've just been writing about the persecution of the Hutterites all over Europe for several hundred years, and it is so nice to see you being so free and happy and healthy and having so much fun. I often wish I had been born Hutterite... but I wasn't, and now I'm FAR too lazy! Thanks for your great work.
13 years ago I thought I would never marry, or maybe in some years. Then a couple of months later I met my husband. And now we are 12 years happily married. May God bless you with a good husband and a happy marriage.
Dear Giselle. I am a 61 year old woman located in Denmark, Europe. It has really been a blessing to find your channel. The simplicity of life. Growing your own food and preserving it for winter..this is what my grand mom did, and we are lacking these skills to day. And first and foremost, praising the Lord in all things. God bless you young woman of faith. 🌹
I honestly think the advice of getting to know your partner and making sure that they’re right for you before you get married is the best thing to do no matter what culture you come from. I appreciate what I learned from this video. ❤
Very interesting thanks Giselle. You are wise not to jump into marriage until you feel completely ready, particularly as you can’t really leave each other. You need to make sure that you have found the right one.
Oh we are so endlessly curious!! Thank you for being so gracious, and answering so many questions!! We all love romance and family (no matter where we are from!) and so it's fun to discuss weddings anytime, anywhere!! Thank you Giselle!
Loved this video! I think it would be cool in the future to make other “themed” q&a videos. You could post a theme on the community page and let people ask questions surrounding that topic. I love learning about all of your customs and traditions!
Great idea! I would be interested in hearing more about what you think of the size of your colony, like- what do you guess would be better and worse if your colony was bigger or smaller? Smallest colony you've known? Are people from other colonies ever "borrowed" for a few days or weeks or longer to fill a job? And, how many other colonies have you visited? Just some questions that come to mind!
Thank you for sharing Giselle, as for your own marriage, pray for your soulmate and keep in mind the right one will be praying for you as well😉Love your channel! Have a Blessed week😊
Giselle - I am not a religious person at all but oh wow I HAVE to tell you that I look forward to your vlogs as you are sooo open and I LOVE IT!! You may not be wanting to marry as yet - however I do hope one day, if you find someone you love, he will be as open as you! Hugs young lady!! From Australia!
I am so thankful to see a new vlog! I wish sometimes I was a Hutterite! There is so much beauty in your life. The outside world is in chaos right now. Peace be with you!
Although the Hutterites live separate and apart from our world, unfortunately they are just as much at risk as the rest of us if things get out of hand in our world.
I agree. I watch her channel with a heavy heart because she really have the life God wants all of us to have. This world here is like a matrix. I don't like it but I have to remember this world is not my home. I'm just passing through it.
We missed you to but understand very well that you have a life outside this Vlog. Love to you and beautiful Kona. Looking forward to more. Would love to see more canning videos. I do quite a bit of canning, so I definitely enjoy those. I really like the simplicity of your wedding traditions. Many who spend a ridiculous amounts of money on weddings could learn from your traditions.
Just now seeing this short vlog, When we lived in North Central Montana just near the Canadian border to Alberta, there were 3 different colonies in the US and 1 in Alberta. They often had parties/get together socials for the young folks to meet and mingle which might lead to new relationships .
Hello Giselle! Thank you for answering so many questions so well. It looks like autumn is arriving there. It is such a beautiful season. I pray for good health for you and your family, and of course Kona too!
I live in Montana and I see your surname often when I deliver to the colonies as a Fedex driver. I didn't even know there was a hutterite presence online, very cool! :)
Goodness what a wealth of information, so sweet of you to reach out to other Colonies so you were able to get all of the information. I love learning about all these wonderful things we have in common and also that are different. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you again. 💕🙏
I’m not sure how I found your channel but I am sure I am enjoying learning about your community. You are an incredibly competent person with an amazing range of skills. Your videos are so well done, from the camera angles to the subjects to the sound and the all important editing. Professional level. You have a great eye for the small details and the bigger picture. I have a few questions related to the community. Who makes decisions such as building more houses, upgrading the business? I know you have discussed where your funds come from but I am wondering about the funds for the first class kitchen equipment and the construction projects and the food and other items to supply over a hundred people. The assignments are divided by gender, so what happens if you want to work in the fire truck business or a young man wants to work in the garden and kitchen or other domestic task? You are clearly capable of learning any trade or skill. I can see the appeal of your life in community, and many of your viewers express how much they would enjoy it, but we are not used to having jobs limited by gender…. at least in theory. I am old enough to remember when help wanted ads were divided by gender… but that went away decades ago. I understand if you do not want to respond and I hope I have not offended.
Nice to see your vlog. The wedding information - I wish more would marry this way than spend countless $$ on the celebration and not have a plan on securing a home for themselves. If I were to marry again, I'd seriously consider eloping. And I do have ladders. LOL
Welcome back Giselle. Hope you had a wonderful break. This was a great video. Very informative. Loved the format and new closing. Unrelated, I saw in the news that some hutterite colonies were looking at doing something for the National day of truth and reconciliation, I was wondering if your colony did anything? So glad to see you back!
Giselle if you happen to hear of a hutterite couple looking to adopt a 62 year old cowboy from down here in Texas go ahead and throw my name in the hat. Colony as far south as possible as I'm allergic to really cold weather. Fall leaves in last shot of video was beautiful and answering questions is just going to lead to more questions so get ready for a long ride. God bless you because whether you know it or not you are bringing people from all over a little closer together.
Glad you're back GW. In the outside world marriage failure rate is around 50%. Second marriage failure rate is around 60%. So, I loved your response to question #19. Good Answer.
I've noticed one thing that is really appealing. Everything is gental nature, people, actions, additudes are all gental. How do you handle crime? Is there even any?
You are adorable. I'm so glad I ran across your channel. You have such a gift of communication and photography! 💛🍁 Firstly, I'm so glad to hear about adoption, as we are all adopted sons and daughters. It's wonderful to see children in need of homes--as well as those who long to be parents--can have that opportunity. 😊 So I have a question, and it's not to be confrontational at all. If you don't mind please, how does the community deal with domestic abuse, or adultery? Are couples required to attend counseling, or in situations of violence, do the police get involved? Or is that never a problem? I'm not standing for those simply getting divorced, because of not taking their marriage seriously. Not at all...but as you know, historically women (and men!) had to suffer for generations in certain circumstances, and that only led to each generation being affected. Sigh. And though the scriptures mention adultery as a means, some churches/communities were "sort of at a loss" without literal words in Scripture about abuse/violence. (Experience in my own faith community.) It took a Pastor from a different denomination, to point out that when a spouse was abusive, they had already broken their vows--just as much as in adultery--because they weren't loving/respecting their spouse the way Christ loves us or the church. So then the other spouse had grounds to leave and move on. He also made a point to remind us about grace--between all the parties involved--and between them and God. It was an eye opening view for me at the time. Sorry this was lengthy, but I think you can see why I didn't want to leave it so black-and-white. Thank you kindly! 💜🌻🙏🍁
I really enjoyed listening to your answers. Your traditions are not so different from other religions. I was brought up Catholic and the wedding vows for most include “until death do us part” so the church will not marry a divorced person. The only way to remarry in the Catholic Church is to get an annulment. Take care Giselle and enjoy life❣️
Actually , annulment can onlz be done under some special/ specific conditions 1.If one party didn't disclose a past marriage( this means the vow was made in false terms)
Thank you that was very interesting. I am 59 and have never married though I was engaged to be married when I was much younger. Even our royal family get divorced nowadays, nice to see the hutterites take life time commitment seriously.
Hello! I ran onto a short of yours. This is the first time I am watching a video of yours. I am curious about your culture and beliefs. I noticed you have some German sounding words. Ich spreche Deutsch! I am looking up the history as I had never heard of your groups other than the word Hutterite. Thanks for sharing about your life! 😊
Welcome, welcome to the channel we are happy to have you. 😊 Our ancestors came from Germany. If you are interested in learning more there is a website called Hutterites.org with great information. 😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 I'm from Austria, and my father has researched Hutterite history a lot. Actually Jakob Hutter came from Tirol, which is in Austria, and there are several small museums throughout Austria by now, related to Hutterite history :)
Such an excellent and informative video! Thank you, Giselle. I like the new profile photo and ending too. Am especially appreciative of the Scriptures you post.
Do you have “hope chests” in your culture?? I grew up in a fairly traditional evangelical family. My grandfather was pastor of our church. On my 16th birthday, I received a handmade cedar chest. About three feet deep, five feet long. I filled it with things I “hoped” for. Dishes, linens, a few special quilts and some baby clothes. As well as books, and other special items. I’m 34 now, my husband is building one for our 16 year old daughter. It’s one of the things that I wanted to continue.
This was a fantastic question and answer! I really enjoyed all of it. All so interesting. So true about Queen Victoria and the white wedding gowns. In most societies in the US that means nothing anymore. Brides always look so beautiful no matter what they are wearing. God’s peace G and colony. ✌🏻🌱
That was a very good vlog Giselle. You looked well rested after you short time away from doing your vlog. You were smiling a lot more and just seamed happier.
Are there any exceptions to the no divorces rule? I know a lot of churches allow for it only in the case of abuse etc - is it allowed under these circumstances as a Hutterite? Thanks - find all of your videos so interesting! 😊
Welcome back, missed you and your amazing and inspiring vlogs. Thanks for the most informative vlog. I learned allot about Hutterite weddings. Thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions. Love your new profile picture.
I am curious about so many things. How are couples prepared for marriage, i.e. communication, sex (birds and the bees, how marital sex works (presuming virginity), birth control, etc.), roles in the home (equality vs. submission), spending, conflict resolution, mutual respect, relationships with in-laws, etc. Is abuse tolerated? Is the new Bride welcomed joyfully into the new colony or is she subject to bullying, a pecking order, the worst jobs, hazing, etc.? How is a new Bride's homesickness handled. Presumably she is separated from her Mother and sisters and friends and support network. How do the young couple learn to bond as a married couple if they are back to work the second day after they consummate their marriage. It is puzzling to me.
I love the simplicity of your marriage traditions. For my parents wedding in the 1940's my mom wore a black dress as was the custom in her area. Hugs to you and Kona!
Hi Giselle, Now that we know Mom's name, may you let us know Dad's also? Glad to have you back refreshed and smiling. Take Care and may God richly bless you.
Hi Giselle, do nonmarried people continue to live with their family forever, or do they move to their own building on the colony at some point? Do widowed people live on their own?
What an interesting video! I'm glad other people thought of all those questions to ask! And you may not have a husband yet but you've still got Kona!🐕😊
So excited to see a new vlog up! I just recently found your channel and am a new subscriber. I've been binge watching your content when I go to sleep at night. Your vlogs are so interesting, and I find your voice and the singing to be so relaxing. Love this channel!
My Dearest Giselle. Some wonderful answers to all those questions. Even my question was answered, thank you very much. There you go, you never go running out of something to write. Bravo.😂 Blessings all around, your good friend Doug from the land down under.😘
Thank you. This is so interesting! Years ago I became interested in learning about the Amish. That led me to Hutterites and Mennonites. I enjoy learning about different cultures. That's why I like your videos.
Well hello! Welcome back Giselle and I hope the break was very much needed…& something interesting that came up at my job that I had learned from this channel was that a few days ago while at my job that I saw a few ladies came into my job that that were dressed like yourself n had the shauls that were black w/ white poka dots on it n were speaking similar to what I heard from the episode you made speaking your language….it was pretty cool
That is so interesting i'm guessing you are in Alberta or Saskatchewan (i could be wrong) but because you said shawl with poka dots that's what gave me the thought. 😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 There are many in the Saskatoon area that I know about - they come to the local mall near where we lived. (we have moved back to Europe where my husband is from after spending 18 months in Saskatoon, but I myself am from Alberta. I lived in Saskatoon previously, before I was married.)
Miss your videos! I just love your community and daily life. Would you consider doing more of these types of Q & A's. Does not have to be of serious nature. I would like to know skills, traditions, and when your community decides to expand, what you chose to plant and grow, etc. How to resolve differences etc...
I’m sorry, answering questions made me think of new questions! What happens if the husband or wife is unfaithful? What happens if the husband or wife is abusive? Or is the fear of hell enough stop people from doing this ? Thank you for answering the questions.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God -- we are all sinners -- and there is no sin that is greater than another. Those would probably be situations where she mentioned living separately -- although depending on the situation -- abuse -- that may be one where they get the law involved as that may be a crime (Just my opinion, I am not a Hutterite)
@@JT-lm3sj There is only one sin that is unforgivable -- and that is rejecting the Holy Spirit and Jesus as your personal Saviour -- since they are members of the church -- they would have accepted Jesus as their savior .. But if you have a Bible reference that shows other wise, please share
Giselle, good to see you again! I hope you are refreshed and rested...great Q & A for those people that are interested in your colony...I'm looking forward to the landscape turning to beautiful colors..yes, it will be very soon. The temperature sure has changed greatly, but I don't mind the cooler weather. Stay healthy, safe and the sweet person that you always are. Maybe we will meet one day...you never know...yes, I'm old enough to be your Nana, as my grandkids call me. Hope to hear from you soon❣️🍁
I would think that adoption should be encouraged, to expand the very small gene pool among Hutterites. Over time it would reduce congenital conditions. Meanwhile for family-less children, adoption into a close-knit community would be life-giving.
Lovely to see you back again. Interesting video thank you. It is lovely that all the brides and grooms get the same wedding celebrations. No expensive extravaganzas for the wealthy. It is getting colder with darker mornings here. We have had some rain but nowhere near enough. But some nice sunny days. Forecast seems to show you going into the negative temperatures this week. I presume you have been working hard to get in your crops and set things up for next years growing. Your winters are so much longer and colder than mine. I have a question, how do you keep warm in your thin dresses, do you have thicker winter ones, or do you wear thermal underwear?
We wear a lot of layers during the winter months. Yes we are working on getting in the crop we had a heavy rain last week and it set us back a few days but we are at it again 😊
When you do another question and answer video I have a question I’m curious about. What are the major causes for the Greater Hutterite Community to decide to set up a new colony? I assume it is seeing an economic opportunity and having the people to fill it, but I could be very wrong.
Thank you Giselle! It is always interesting to learn about practices in different communities. I hope you have a great week. I watched a video about marriage traditions in Tibet and have been fascinated by the differences across the globe.

Welcome back, missed you and your amazing and inspiring vlogs. Thanks for the most informative vlog. I learned allot about Hutterite weddings. Thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions. Love your new profile picture.
Is your Kibbutz religious or secular? Who founded the Kibbutz? How did you find The Hutterite community since you live on a Kibbutz ?
@@D.N.. good questions, I'm curious about Kibbutz life.
Loved this. Take carex
Happy to see you😊 Always enjoy learning about your community 💕
Ty Giselle. Always good to hear from you.🤗🍃🍁🍂
I am curious about so many things.
Question: if no divorce, what about cases of abuse? Say the man is abusive to the wife, what happens?
I love the simplicity of your marriage traditions. For my parents wedding in the 1940's my mom wore a black dress as was the custom in her area. Hugs to you and Kona!
Hi Giselle, Now that we know Mom's name, may you let us know Dad's also? Glad to have you back refreshed and smiling.
Take Care and may God richly bless you.
Thanks Giselle!
Hi Giselle, do nonmarried people continue to live with their family forever, or do they move to their own building on the colony at some point? Do widowed people live on their own?
Great vlog. Glad you are back 🤓🇬🇧💐
Nothing like Manitoba in the fall, the colors are so beautiful.
That is true
Hope you enjoyed your break away from TH-cam. But I am glad to see you back.
What an interesting video! I'm glad other people thought of all those questions to ask! And you may not have a husband yet but you've still got Kona!🐕😊
oh I'm so thankful for that 🙂
@@gisellewaldner9406 Long live Kona!
such a beautiful lifestyle ; i enjoy learning about the colony and the recipes you share. Will you be sharing any preserve recipes in the future ?
Thanks!! Blessings! Have a terrific fall!!
How do you all celebrate harvest?
harvest and thanksgiving are kind of the same so a get together, singing and a special supper :)
I’d love to see you meet your special person
This was a very informative video! Thank you Giselle!
Welcome back. I have missed you and Koda. Thank you for always sharing and answering those hard questions.
You are most welcome
So excited to see a new vlog up! I just recently found your channel and am a new subscriber. I've been binge watching your content when I go to sleep at night. Your vlogs are so interesting, and I find your voice and the singing to be so relaxing. Love this channel!
Welcome, welcome we are happy to have you here with us and i'm glad you enjoy the videos 😊
The blue dress in the colony means Purdy as in both bride and groom are Pur(Purdy means no sex till after marriage)
I've miss you and your channel. I've learned so very much about the Hunnorites about your life style and it is so interesting.
I'm glad and happy to help you as you learn more about our culture
Great video, I think you hit on everything I was wondering!
Great video good editing, proper speed. Good tempo. Thank you
Helpful, interesting and informative! Thanks so much for sharing this video Giselle ❤
Thank you for helping us understand your culture.
My Dearest Giselle. Some wonderful answers to all those questions. Even my question was answered, thank you very much. There you go, you never go running out of something to write. Bravo.😂
Blessings all around, your good friend Doug from the land down under.😘
I'm glad i could answer your questions and blessings to you too
Thank you. This is so interesting! Years ago I became interested in learning about the Amish. That led me to Hutterites and Mennonites. I enjoy learning about different cultures. That's why I like your videos.
Hi Giselle, ty for all those answers, it made me smile 😃, when you said they adopt children 😊. God Bless
God bless you too :)
Very interesting Giselle
This was very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing🥰
Miss your videos! I just love your community and daily life. Would you consider doing more of these types of Q & A's. Does not have to be of serious nature. I would like to know skills, traditions, and when your community decides to expand, what you chose to plant and grow, etc. How to resolve differences etc...
it is defiantly easier when I can focus on just one topic for a Q & A, we will have to see, it is a wonderful idea
@@emmib1388 some sins are greater then others
@@JT-lm3sj There is only one sin that is unforgivable -- and that is rejecting the Holy Spirit and Jesus as your personal Saviour -- since they are members of the church -- they would have accepted Jesus as their savior .. But if you have a Bible reference that shows other wise, please share
I touched about one of the questions in the last q&a, refer to that hopefully that will help you with the second question.
Oh i love the colder weather especially when we are in the garden it just hits different. And thank you ❤
Thank you🌹
Good to see you!! Another informative video, thank you for sharing about Hutterite weddings!
Very interesting and also so reassuring that no one is under pressure to do things they don't want to do.
Your an amazing young woman. Thanks again for sharing your life with us
Giselle, What a great video. Thank you for sharing. Missed the singing, though.
It’s so nice to see you 😊, missed your sweet spirit, very informative 💕
I would think that adoption should be encouraged, to expand the very small gene pool among Hutterites. Over time it would reduce congenital conditions. Meanwhile for family-less children, adoption into a close-knit community would be life-giving.
Great work! So glad to see you today. You seem so happy. A break really helps .🌸
It does help and i'm happy to be back 😊
I would love to know how your parents met. And how long engagements last.
It's good to see you again. You have been missed.
I missed you too
Thank you Giselle.
You are most welcome
I assume it is seeing an economic opportunity and having the people to fill it, but I could be very wrong.
that would be an interesting topic :)
Very interesting, answered a lot of my questions
Great vlog! Answered my questions. Hope to see some of your fall scenery! Have a great fall before the snow flies!
I'm happy that i could do that for you ❤
Thank you Giselle! It is always interesting to learn about practices in different communities. I hope you have a great week. I watched a video about marriage traditions in Tibet and have been fascinated by the differences across the globe.
I can understand that it's fascinating i love learning about other cultures as well 😊
You've talked about getting engaged and divorced, but what kind of council do couples receive to prepare them before marriage?
Thanks for all the info.
Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Hey Giselle I live in manitoba too. I love it that there is a TH-cam person that lives close to me😀
Ohh that is so cool 😊
