What is the life expectancy for the missing link vs the factory link?

I'm not sure the exact life of the link. I'm guessing it is dependent upon how often you remove it and how clean you keep your chain. I mostly ride paved trails and will probably swap mine out if I notice it getting lose when doing chain maintenance.
