So the tracks you were hiking on were built during WWII between 1942 and 1943, and the reason they were is because the US military built bunkers at Koko Head with a base camp at the foot as well as operational facilities with a radar at the top so to provide access to the summit and transport supplies, they built a gas-powered tramway! The military stopped using these facilities in 1966, so they returned the land to Honolulu and thus Koko Head became a popular hike! When I saw on Instagram that you did the Jurassic Park off-road thing at Kualoa Ranch as well this hike, I knew this would the video I'd be looking forward to the most. And it doesn't disappoint because of how gorgeous and breathtaking it all is! Hawaii is so lucky to have so much natural beauty.
Gonna say it, chimichurri is one of life's greatest inventions. It's the best thing to go on steak, I don't care what people say. Bless the gauchos of Argentina who invented this holy sauce. Even at night, Aulani is beautiful. And now that you mentioned it at 9:43, the resort should definitely have its own Hawaiian-themed mini-Electrical Water Pageant! Koko Head is a tuff cone volcano and a part of a series of volcanoes on Oahu called the Honolulu Volcanics. Its crater is extinct and last erupted 33,000 years ago. And if you thought hiking Koko Head was a challenge, imagine what it was like for the people BUILDING that thing by having to set up the tracks ON TOP of hiking!
Great video, as always! We did Koko 2 years ago with slippery, wet tracks from the morning dew. The wet tracks probably made it one of the toughest things I've ever done in my life. Going down the trail was tougher than going up, believe it or not.
If and when you go back, try to check out some other islands! I adore Maui so much for its amazing relaxation (go in February and you can just see whales all day long while you are just relaxing on the beach!); the Big Island would be great for history. I haven't been to Kauai yet, but its high on my list.
Zack wants to go to Hawaii just for the Jurassic Park locations! Wanted to say it’s rad for not focusing on Aulani.. that would probably be the last place we go when you have Hawaii to explore!
I’m happy to say that Aulani didn’t end up being a highlight of the trip…we wanted to see it cause we’re theme park people, and it was very nice, but everything else we did was so much more fulfilling!
local athletes use the Koko Head hike to gauge their fitness.... I hear the young guns can do it in under 20 minutes? I go fishing near there, and at night you can see flashlights going down the mountain...
It’s cool that the Tropical Itch is on the menu and that you selected it because unlike most tropical cocktails it actually is a Hawaii original. Harry Yee is known for several cocktails, probably the most famous is the Blue Hawaii, and for funky garnishes. He was the first to put a little paper umbrella in a cocktail and indeed, the Tropical Itch has always had a back scratcher in it. Congratulations on a successful vacation!
As Floridians used to flat land I was kind of shocked you guys scaled that mountain, but have to say the view was spectacular. Kauloa Ranch was amazing and the highlight of the trip :)

Loved the videos and the return of the full intro song!! I need to start saving 😅

in your research, did you come across the 'Stairway to Heaven'? it is now an illegal hike, but people still do it anyway...
This was such a awesome set of videos. Loved the tours and things you did. Gave us some things to do when we visit.
So glad!
4:00 some chilean guy speaking “Esta wea es corta pero pal picx” , funny 😂😂… “this shit is short but fkng hardcore”
