I absolutely love the wine-red torpedos of TMP era that undulate like pulsars. The anemic orange style of TNG etc. and the newer red pew pew blobs look so impressive and generic.
Besides me accidentally igniting my co-ships plasma stream, I tried protecting the James Kirk as much as possible, I had my fingers crossed watching that last plasma explosion, 😳
