When I Led the Guard is a song sung by Scar, explaining to Ushari how he got his Scar. The story of Scar is told in a flashback scene in which he meets a strange lion.

But Mufasa just pushes that aside and makes fun of him for the situation. I imagine Mufasa might've never taken Scar seriously even up to that moment, so it was a breaking point for Scar, and the snake's venom only enhanced his drive to kill him

I find it weird that people assume that it was just the snake bite that made him evil. Scar followed that lion because he was intrigued by what he was saying. He was already pretty arrogant and felt like he deserved to rule because he was the strongest with the roar. All before he gotten bitten.
Scar followed that lion with the intent of joining his cause. What he didn’t expect was being betrayed then blackmailed. So he kills the lion and hoped that he could spin the events to portray himself as the hero. When Mufasa carelessly deflates Scar’s moment of triumph with his new nickname, he came to the full realization of just how wasted his potential was. Here he is, the strongest lion of the pride, being treated like a joke by his older brother and king. Why should somebody who doesn’t defend the Prideland get all the admiration while he plays second fiddle?
Honestly, I find it hard to believe that the snake’s venom did anything more than provide Scar the motivation he needed to indulge into his already venomous ambitions.
Ever notice that they paid.attention to detail with Mufasa in that flash back?

RyuSpike I don’t think Scar is the arrogant one here, but Mufasa. Making the oldest king not because he is a better king, but because he is older is stupid& middle age thinking, so Scar has every reason to be pissed. Mufasa is acting like a total jerk here, making fun of Scar instead of being worried. Not being able to recognize the achievments of others is also narcistic behaviour, so I‘m on Scar‘s side here.

The best part is that there are a lot of versions of the story of how Taka got his scar.
Scar was always ambitious and prideful. Him becoming a villian was inevitable, the cobra bite was just icing on the cake.

The Lion Guard is seriously underrated and overlooked just because its on Disney Junior and introduces new characters. Yes, the animation isnt the best, but it has amazing stories and the voice actors are great as well! Atleast TLG has a wide variety of facial expressions and talented voice actors. This song is so insanely catchy! I am also glad Scar gets a second song, and it does not ruin him at all. Although you have to wonder if he is a reliable narrator. Mufasa could simply have been joking with the Scar nickname, but the venom amplified his negative emotions, like jealousy and power-lust, to the point where even a simple joke enrages him. Though Mufasa does kind of treat Scar like garbage in the movie. And let’s be honest, giving your brother a derisive nickname makes you seem like a huge asshole. I also have to say at first, I thought this show was stupid. This song ALONE changed my opinion. The other songs, like Bring Back a Legend, When I run this Dump, and Tonight We Strike are fuckin' amazing too.

Scar is a legacy. He is so popular that he made an appearance in Lion Guard. That’s popular he is. He might’ve not been king material but one thing is for certain: He’s definitely as memorable (if not more memorable) than a king.
As a gold member of entertainment history, The Lion King has always stayed on the minds of fans, whether new movies and spinoffs were out or not. For years, there have been discussions about how Scar ended up being so mean, and it all goes back to his childhood. For the details, you have to look toward the book series, The Lion King: Six New Adventures, and one story in particular, A Tale of Two Brothers.
Through this, we learn two things: Scar’s real name and how he got the mark. Let’s start with what his parents, King Ahadi and mom Uru, named him. While Mufasa’s name means “king” in Swahili, Scar’s name, “Taka,” means “waste” or “garbage.”
According to the book, Ahadi declared Mufasa would be his successor when the two cubs where young and spent extra time with his one son. On top of that, he broke a promise to Taka, causing the younger lion to resent him. If you flip through the pages, you’ll see that Ahadi would also insult Taka and openly compare the brothers to one another.
Out of spite, Taka schemed to harm Mufasa. He tricked a water buffalo named Boma into thinking Mufasa wanted to fight him over a watering hole at their father’s orders. Mufasa was able to get away and trap Boma, but the angry buffalo made sure his herd went after Taka. They caught up to him, and one of them hit Taka with one its sharp horns, causing the famous cut above his eye. Mufasa and Ahadi saved the day before they could kill Taka.......

As RyuSpike said, Scar was already arrogant and all before he got bit. The snake's venom just gave him the final push to become proud. After all, if it automatically made a creature evil, Kion should have ended up like him but he didn't. Doing the right thing should not be for praise as it never ends well. After all, it was his job so why should he get praised for it? I doubt even Mufasa praising him would have stopped him as he'd likely try to use that as an excuse to become king so he was going to scheme and have Mufasa killed one way or another. Also, what was in the comics and books are not canon or so I heard. I swear some of you will do anything to make sympathetic villains and paint someone else as responsible for their descent into villainy when they will always be responsible for their actions no matter what. Not every villain can be saved.

The Show Is More Canon To The Original Trilogy Than The Books, So Just Accept That His Name Was Askari After The First Lion Guard Leader And Ancestor Of The Modern Day Lion King Family And That The Snake Gave Him The Scar Not His Father, Not The Buffalo. The Explanation That Mufasa Scarred Him Is Only Canon To The 2019 Remake. Accept That The Books Are Non Canon.

Mufasa didn't care a bit about Scar's scar. Scar was right, he should've been king. As long as his scar didn't make him too evil.
His scar _did_ make him pretty evil. Scar was a good person until he got bitten by the snake. The venom inside the scar caused him to become more evil, and want to kill Mufasa because he didn’t praise Scar for defeating the lion.
If he was so "good" then why was he intrigued by the idea of taking over the pride land in the first place? I think its implied he had a dark side to begin with but was amplified by the venom.

I swear this is Scar's whole story. The taka story, this story, I get this show does it own thing from the book series but I feel like he'd never actually tell the truth. Nor would it matter cause he knows full well how to play mind-games and never stopped until truly the very, very end.

You can watch it the is lion guard I watched when I was little but I still watch it
You know, I also were way beyond it's demographic when it started to be aired. But it didn't stop me from watching, and doesn't have to stop You. Sure it can be a little "childish" sometimes(though... did a little bit of childishness ever kill anyone? I think not), but the songs are great, and story isn't bad either... even thought most of the episodes are like fillers. So is generally worth seeing. Even if one would come back rather only to songs and maybe a few episodes.
You are never too old
On paper is might sound like a good backstory. It's just the song doesn't show it very well.
Scar was capable of leading his own solo patrols, which* really shows how confident in himself he is and how strong he can be. But due to this, an odd lion took advantage of him. He convinced Scar that he deserved power like Mufasa has, and Scar decides to indulge in the idea.
But the lion tricks him into suffering a snake bite, almost like a treaty or deal confirmation. This makes Scar kill them when he realizes how untrustworthy the lion was.
But even though Scar is suffering a literal cobra bite and has taken pride in ridding Mufasa's kingdom of someone evil, Mufasa doesn't appreciate it at all and simply makes fun of Scar for the situation.
Therefore Scar feels unappreciated and likely looked down upon, which is what causes him to realize he does deserve better, and so he wants to take Mufasa's place.
Scar's guard does not agree to getting rid of Mufasa, so Scar destroys them, ultimately losing his powers.
We then have basically Lion King after that.
I think this backstory could've worked out if we just had more context and information. It feels pretty random, but my personal theory is Scar always felt unappreciated by Mufasa, and that Mufasa never took him seriously. Therefore the snake bite situation was the last straw for Scar.
Scar, who already had aspirations to be king, found this idea interesting, though he did not really plan on sharing his power with his new "friend". However, having the Roar made Scar feel powerful, and that power eventually went to his head. Because of this, Scar grew to become quite arrogant, preferring to go out on patrols all alone instead of with his team and always expecting to be praised for his actions. In addition, Scar was also jealous of Mufasa for being heir to the throne instead of him and secretly desired it for himself while carrying on with his duties. Even as the Lion Guard leader, he was quite arrogant, preferring to go out on patrols all alone instead of with his team and always expecting to be praised for his actions, showing little to no respect for his team. The song never intended to make the song sympathic since Scar only cares for himself, no one else.

I think Mufasa thought the scar came from a brave fight with an evil Lion. So, naming his brother Scar was meant to honor him.
Scar dosen't like the name because he knows he got the scar because of mistjudgement and jealousnes, not honor or bavery.
I think the reason why Scar blames Simba for causing his death (even though he should know pretty well that the hyenas (not Janja's clan, i'm talking about Shenzi, Banzai and Ed's clan) did this), was because Simba was the one who throwed him to the place the hyenas were waiting for him, though neither Simba nor Scar knew the hyenas would be in the place where Scar fell.

It weird how so many people, Disagree with this theory because it makes a nice villain backstory, That makes scar slightly sympathetic but not Completely sympathetic where we start rooting for him like they did in the Mufasa movie, Or other disney villain origin movies, It shows us, A character we can truly recognize a scar but still, Understand where he came from

Okay seeing this play out with just the first verse of the song was really stupid, but hearing the full story, outside of a snake bite resulting in that sort of scar, I actually kinda like this back story.
Also I'm impressed that they had Scar admit to killing them for that on Disney JR of all places.

Scar is so evil yet still sings the best villain songs
I like how this show explains things from the movie that didn't have any explanation of Scar's backstory. Some things do annoy me of Lion Guard but the movie will always be the best! Scar was evil however at times it does sound like he wasn't too vile and evil but he had a black heart cared for no one other than himself.

This song is just so damn good. Probably my favorite song from the Lion Guard, Scar is an awesome villain too.
This song has made me to think about the differences of scar and kion, and I summed it all up and realized that they are quite similar, but one major difference is not they're attitudes or how they led the guard, but the main difference is how they're older siblings treated them when they both got a scar, Mufasa just called him scar (and maybe did not know the effect of a cobra bite on his eye)
While Kiara did something better than praising kion, she got deeply worried and expressed concern. While Mufasa thought it was just a harmless scratch. So yeah they have different attitudes but that reason probably caused all their differences.

To Mufasa, the scar was a symbol of an honorable fight against an evil lion to protect the pridelands.
So from his perspektive Scar was an honorable Name.
Scar did not like the name because he knew that the scar had nothing to do with honor.

Mufasa thought the scar came from a brave honorable fight against an evil Lion. So he saw the scar as a Symbol of honor and bravery. Scar was meant to be a good name.
