@@mathewmaheo4806 typically, the innermost layer is discarded as it is somewhat pithy, brittle and most susceptible to insects and decay.

My guess is the middle three layers are sent to a plyboo facility to be woven, glued and pressed into sheets similar to plywood. The inside layer is likely discarded and the outermost used for weaving.
