I'd recommend 2 live versions of this song, 1984 MTV awards (Madonna wanted to perform with the lion but that idea was shot down due to the safety of Madonna and the audience) however the performance made her an instant superstar and that was the beginning of her reshaping music and live performances. 2nd recommendation is the performance in the 1990 Blonde Ambition tour ( I was 14 and saw that tour on May 20,1990 in Oakland) and I was glued to the stage as she performed like a Virgin

Saint Mark was thrown to the Lions for being a Christian. Also, Beauty and the beast is also referenced. I was around when the video came out I don’t remember anyone being confused about it then. There is nothing random about this video at all.
