    Just Finished (I HOPE) reattaching rear window to a 3 year old top. First of all Do not try yourself. 2nd bought a 16.5 beach ball from Wally world. Put the ball in the space behind the seats and blew it up. Doing this kept the window in it's final position.I was able to center it top and sides with this in place. Also because I am sloppy I put duck tape around the top window area.At tis time I was able to glue the side and then clamp then glue the bottomed clamp lastly glued the top and clamped. Your video gave me confidence THANK YOU

      I tried to fixed my Spyder convertible problem like this problem. I did what he did and only after 2x pulling down my soft top the glass came lose again. Once you reglue the seal, let it cure, Etc and eventually use the car and attempt to take the soft top down your glass WILL fall down it become loose again. You can’t mimic a factory seal job at home.
      Between the windy conditions when the roof top is up, moving the soft top up and down and Etc, will eventually cause the rear glass window to fall become unsealed again.
      Afterwards a professional repairer tried to fix my soft top window in the same manner. The glass came loose after 2x moving my soft roof down and up.
      I note this guy doesn’t demo opening up the car roof and reclosing it AFTER he “fixed” it.

    Goop glue is the answer for sure. Ive used it for years. Just make sure your surfaces are clean and youre good to go ! After reading up on goop glue ,its all pretty much the same but in different consistencies. ALSO, Goop Marine comes in an 11 oz. caulk tube. Its slightly runnier but not much. I use it on everything.

    Hi! THANK YOU for this vid... very very helpful!
    I used this GOOP product to repair my '05 VW Beetle top glass. So far it's worked FANTASTIC on the bottom and two sides where I put it on. Bottom -- wait 24 hrs... two sides -- 24 hrs. Great! Problem I have now is the soft top does not overlap the glass at the top (shrinkage problem?).. yes, I can get them to meet by wedging open the top during the repair, but it'll pull apart I'm certain as soon as I clip it all shut.
    So -- what to do?
    If I unfold the lip of the soft top it adds about a 1/2" and they touch even when closed... but barely.
    I'm thinking a "patch" to extend the length of the soft top at the top edge of the glass would make for WAY less tension when closed and close that gap. Is this feasible? What fabric to use to fill that gap? Is there another technique I could use here? ARGGGGHHH!

    • @dontswin
      @dontswin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that, I use it often around the house. I am still thinking about tackling the entire top replacement job. It sure is a lot of work that way. I just don't know if I want to spend nearly 8 hours on that project. By the time I get all the stuff together, thats an easy 2 hours alone.

    • @chadsnoke6671
      @chadsnoke6671 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dontswin I ended up buying a marine vinyl and then using magnets to hang it in place and then glue it into place. It's not the prettiest, but it has held up very well. I only drive my TT with the top down, so it works for me.

    • @dontswin
      @dontswin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am going to try to get a piece of that marine vinyl and cut a it like a D shape since there's no way I can stretch the 2 bottom layers onto the lower edge of the glass. There is too much of a gap especially the top layer. Where can I get this marine vinyl? I can run a bead of epoxy down the sides of the glass maybe only the lower 10" then across the bottom and glue to the existing outer layer. Now I know why my daughter was having so much trouble getting the front of the hood to set down and be clamped easily. The canvas has shrunk too much thru the years. I mean it is a 2001 Sebring.

    Does not work. 3M window weld does

  • @Rene-uz3eb
    @Rene-uz3eb ปีที่แล้ว

    I've used rhino glue before which laster 2 years, but still is tight on about a quarter of the window and the good thing about it is it looked like new, because it's like epoxy super thin. The problem is it will never last everywhere because it's rigid and won't deal with uneven forces.
    Regarding goo or M3 window weld, intuitively I don't trust it. How on earth are you going to ensure there is a thick enough layer? To keep the window in place you have to compress it while drying. None of the windows I've seen in yt videos looked flush with this method. With the rhino you don't have that problem, it needs to be tightly pressed like super glue. And I think the window weld is meant for sealing windows, like windshields, rather than glueing. That's why it comes in a giant tube.
    So this is what I'll do. The main issue is getting a seal against the rain. For that, the lower half of the window must not have any gaps. Upper doesn't matter. I'll use 3M extreme tape, which is still holding in more than half the places I stuck it about 8 years ago. The problem was, I only used a few strips to hold it in (proving it's super strong), but the gaps without tape led to rain leaks.
    This time I'll try to unroll the tape in one piece on the lower edge, while holding the upper piece in proper position with a few strips of the tape, so the lower part will be flush. Around the lower corners I'll have to cut a few pieces, have to figure out how to position the tape without gaps.
