Beautiful watch. I swear, if Seiko started putting Sapphire on their “cheaper” watches they would probably increase their bottom line. But that might disrupt the space time continuum, so maybe not. Great review as always!
I know they don't have to spend a dime on the phases before production, but if the chinese can shove a great piece of sapphire on their ali shitters and still sell it for cheap, it's ridiculous that Seiko can't do the same
@@Ktrb I agree with you regarding hardlex as I own quite a few Seiko’s and have yet to scratch the glass on any of them, and I’m definitely on the clumsy side like Jody. Scratched the mineral crystal on my Citizen promaster though within a month.
For years, I was hesitant to get a Cocktail Time until I pulled the trigger on an Ice Blue. Quick strap change and I was very surprised at how versatile these watches are. Now seeing an honest review of this and my willpower is fading. Absolutely beautiful watch!
Really nice piece. I wish it was 38mm. Recently I bought an Orient Star Standard 38mm with a midnight blue dial and rose gold accents on the second hand and 12 o' clock marker. It's a stunning watch with a very accurate automatic to boot.
It looks fantastic and I love my Seikos, but I struggle with buying anymore 4R35 movements. I would be willing to pay twice as much for a better movement and Sapphire. So, as much as I love it, I think I am going to wait and find the Tissot Gentlemen that I can't resist.
8:46 that just made me think it'd be interesting to see you test that polywatch for glass with the two syringes - and possibly other watch maintenance items.
This watch looks very appealing and I am in the market for a sub $250/300 non diver Seiko. Awesome video, as always! I hope the little one is as happy and healthy as can be.
Coming back to this video as today, I popped into a local AD and tried on a few Presage's... this was one of them and I really liked it. I want to add a "cheaper" dressy watch to my collection. I might be going back in tomorrow to buy it!
You would love my 1949 Omega Tresor. It is solid 18k rose gold black face manual wind 17 jewel watch. It works beautifully and is very accurate for 73 years old
I have the Black Cat (deep maroon/brown/purple dial, insane sunburst) with the power reserve and it's my favorite dress watch. Absurdly accurate (+2, 0.1ms beat error) as it sits, light, and even the strap is a good match.
Great watch and I recommend the SNXA13. The lower priced brown dial brother of the famous salmon dial version which is SNXA11. Unfortunately no longer produced any more and hard to find. But I found a used for 110 bucks.
Lovely wee watch. I do like Seiko watches. I'll check out the cocktail range for sure but hai, the clip of that 38mm Orient had me almost drooling. Great stuff Jody, keep at it.
Seiko does a very good job with dial textures. I prefer less subtle ones like my SARY183 but there are so many nice ones to choose from there is a dial for everyone.
Totally agree with you about the sub second graduations on the cocktail times. They clutter up the dial unnecessarily and take away from its dressy aesthetic.
Always love this collection from Seiko. This one in particular is very pretty and it comes with a strap which I would be hard pressed to replace. Great find Jody especially for the price.
I was just enjoying a nice cup of coffee when the video pop-up in my youtube video to check. Nice dial, and without bezel no alignement problem issue ;)
This is a nice little watch. The obvious comparison - as pointed out - is to the Orient Bambino. The Seiko has the better dial texture and maybe indices. The Orient in my estimation wins on all other counts. Not that I'm knocking the Seiko. I would get one at the right price. I do offer another option - The Tissot tradition T0634283603800. Which Ashford just happened to have on sale today for $275 USD. A definite contender, Jodi!
I stumbled across this review not so long ago, and have since subscribed to the channel. I kept thinking that I need/want this watch... so logically I went and picked up the Mojito instead! 😅 It is my first watch that I have made a conscious decision about buying, and I have no regrets! Hopefully the first of many!
I've a couple of cocktail times and absolutely love them. Of course, we would like sapphire, but to be honest, I've never had a problem. I must be very lucky with accuracy as well or its the way I wear them because the worst seiko I have is 7 seconds out but I swap my watches out every few days, so if I got a bad one it wouldn't be too much of a problem.
Nice, it's getting a little difficult with all the Seiko releases (limited editions in the thousands???) and discontinuations, but my pick for the cocktail time is the fuyugeshiki srpc97j1 on a colareb grey vintage leather strap, somehow the snow motif dial (somewhat like a snowflake dial) and blued seconds hand suit a proper strap and not what comes on the model, a great option for some days if you don't already have a grand seiko, but noted on the movement, the 4r35, 4r36 are not regulated properly so some will perform better than others out of the box.
Very nice dial I'd recommend u check out the presage cocktail time black cat martini (ssa393) it costs more but it's one of my absolute fav looking watches ever
I'm a terrible Seiko sceptic, but I have to admit that this one is a beauty. But I just bought the hand cranker art deco watch from Vario and I don't need 2 dress watches (heck. I barely need one!)
Simply amazing cocktail!! I hope I can find one readily available here in the Philippines at that same price of $275.00. I hope too that it is an original one and not a counterfeit Seiko made by the notorious watch maker from China or elsewhere! I love coffee!!
Sure it looks pretty at the moment, I'm sure Seiko will just hope we buy the next pretty mineral lensed model they bring out when it gets too scratched up
Jody you’re one funny dude, always make me laugh a bit. Totally enjoy your show. I also want to add nobody out there can beat Seiko, sorry, I said it. I have some real lookers from them and some very basic ones but they still look amazing. Seiko is the every persons watch. You can get anything from bottom entry that look amazing and you can get really soundly beautifully created watches, dress watches. I have I believe 4 or 5 Seiko’s in every price range, minus a Grand Seiko but all are simply fantastic. Legendary Japanese quality at its best at every price level. Great show, Jody. 🤩
I have no use or purpose for a cocktail time Seiko watch but I want one those dials are just amazing. I was looking at one at a local jeweler at one of the going extinct malls
I just picked up a Certina DS Podium with a Roman Numeral Dial, 100m WR, Sapphire Crystal, 39mm case size. Total Price? $279 USD on Jomashop! I love that Seiko, but for almost the same price, I think the Certina blows it out of the water
Yeah really nice and from far above gives a fume effect too. I bought the old clock (old fashioned), even better dial but cost me £100 more still hunting for the light blue Ltd edition. One of my only watches to receive a comment from Jo public. 😊
The Seiko Presage here in the UK retails for £350-400 pounds depending if you want it on a bracelet or a strap. How did you get this watch for just £220.00 retail price and an from an AD with a 3 year Warranty?? Awesome watch and great video!!
I was able to minimize some scratches on mineral crystal using diamond paste and a Dremel buffing wheel didn’t make it look as good as new, but took a lot of the look at me off of it. I had to do it on one of my cheap micro brands and I also did one on my orient defender that was my daily for a long time and I was able to minimize the multiple scratches I had on those. I think if I would’ve worked on it longer, I could’ve made some of the scratches disappear more. I just got into an acceptable level and realize that there will be more to come The Orient may have a sapphire crystal in the future. I have not decided yet.
Dial competitor: I think the Orient Sun and Moon V3 rose gold (spotted for US$290 on Amazon just then, I paid US$215 a couple years ago) will give this cocktail time a run for the money. Whilst I can't recall anyone commenting on my Blue Moon cocktail time, I've had multiple comments on the Sun and Moon. Like the presage on your video, you have to see the Sun and Moon's dial up close to realise how much there actually is to it. It also beats out the presage if you want more complications or sapphire, but loses out due to thickness, strap width and (in my opinion) dial diameter. Anyway, hope this gives you a good watch for another video down the track :)
Lovely watch. Still struggling with that PRESAGE text they added a couple of years ago. Makes the watch look cheap. But in all other aspects it's wonderful.
I also thought of this as stepping on Bambino’s toes. Seiko’s dial, framed date window, clasp and lack of fake alligator takes the prize between the two.
beautiful watch but with the strap size and sub 40mm dial its not for my 8" wrist. Having just said that though it doesn't stop me from appreciating it, but those 40.5mm cocktail times are the bomb.
Thank goodness they’ve got the thickness down on the cocktail time these days. But 39.5mm is too big for a classy watch like this. I know there’s a split between people who like larger and those who want smaller, but 38mm would be the crowd pleaser here.
Nice looking watch but it makes me wonder where Seiko is heading. Still no sapphire and loosing the already loose tolerances when my basic powermatic 80 keeps time to COSC levels, seems like they are just doing jewelry now.
It's pretty close to perfect. I flip-flopped twice on the mineral crystal issue. On the one hand (pun intended), the more expensive Prospex base Turtle and Samurai also have mineral crystal. OTOH (you know), those crystals are flat, even sunken, protected by their bezels. On the third hand (heh heh), if I wanted this style and size of watch, I think I would take my chances with the crystal, take extra care around door frames, and worst case scenario, have to replace the crystal one day, perhaps mod with sapphire if possible.
Very nice, but I prefer a no date automatic as I hate having to re-set the date. I say this because I have several other watches to wear, so the date is an extra complication I can do without. Just saying.
Beautiful watch. I swear, if Seiko started putting Sapphire on their “cheaper” watches they would probably increase their bottom line. But that might disrupt the space time continuum, so maybe not. Great review as always!
It's a real shame they don't. I have already scratched my Seiko 5s hardlex crystal.
🤣 you are so right
In Seiko's world a single piece of sapphire glass costs about $300 apparently. Glad i don't live there. No Seikos for me.
I know they don't have to spend a dime on the phases before production, but if the chinese can shove a great piece of sapphire on their ali shitters and still sell it for cheap, it's ridiculous that Seiko can't do the same

I have an Ice Blue as well. Killer watch…. As soon as you get it off the factory strap lol
Love that Seiko collection. Mockingbird is one of my favorites in the collection ❤️ Thank you for the video, Jody!
Brown is not my colour but I agree that dial is gorgeous. Most Seiko presage cocktails are really beautiful and stylish, so they deserve the credit.
Its a dress watch and vintage colors like brown and cream are the best in dress watches.

If there is ever a Spring drive Cocktail time. That would be my perfect watch
I picked up the SRPJ17J1. The hour and second hands work just right that you can see them in almost any light.

Absolutely drop dead gorgeous... now that is one very fine dial!
That is a really beautiful watch Dr. Jody. I have watched this video at least two times now.
I bought the blue (gradient) dial version of this and it is, indeed, very pretty.
Beautiful watch- this might do for a dress watch in my collection. Like the little black dress equivalent for ladies.
Good morning from South Africa. You've inspired me to wear my Cocktail time today. Cheers.
I've got one, it is beautiful. Maybe not as nice as my Omega Seamaster De Ville. Some of the Chinese dress watches are excellent, too.
Love the use of the Pagani polishing cloth.....
I had the Presage Cocktail Houjou - beautiful watch, and no flaws under loupe

I'm early again! I seem to be in the right time zone for your launches! Hello from Canada!
Awesome watch and great dial, the other dial that could match this value for money is the Seiko SSB295P1.
She's a looker! Thanks Jody!
A really nice watch. If I had a use for a dress piece, this would be my first choice.

Hi Jody, it’s around £400-00 in the uk, far from the £220-00 equivalent you got it for 👍👍
Ugh, as ever we get our pants pulled down
same in Slovakia and Czech Republic, it's around 400-450 euros. Not worth it for a mineral crystal.
Yeah it is same for rest of the Europe, price is around 500 USD/470 EUR which completely changes everything.
Always love this collection from Seiko. This one in particular is very pretty and it comes with a strap which I would be hard pressed to replace. Great find Jody especially for the price.
