I’m glad to hear someone finally talking about what an incredible player he was. I’m a couple of years older than Bill so I’ve followed his whole career and he was a complete player in every respect. What a passer and complete team player. I agree with Jay that Bill and Kareem are the 2 best college players ever. The game has changed so much that we will probably never see those types of players again but it sure was a pleasure watching Bill (even though he broke my heart in ‘74 when my Maryland Terps almost ended the UCLA winning streak when they lost by 1 at Pauley). Great person, great player.

Thompson could be mentioned with Walton and Kareem.

He was a great college player, he was a good NBA player.

Before his injuries, he was a great great NBA player. He might be the Gayle Sayers of the NBA - certainly worthy of HoF status, but the injuries leave you wondering, “What if?”
