My dad had a cousin who went on a killing spree in the 50s, and his story was always really sad to me bc the abuse he suffered in childhood turned him into a nasty bastard. We had just really mean blood in us that you can see in random relatives, and I grew up finding that really scary, like you could have a switch flip in your brain if you've been treated badly that turns you into a monster. I know it's not as simple as that, but when you know the family culture, it makes you feel like there's a mad dog inside of you. If you could do his victims' story, I think it's an interesting case, and one that highlights what can happen when you combine horrific childhood abuse with mental illness. His name was Billy Cook, from Joplin, MO (his grave is near the Devil's Promenade) and I believe he was executed in San Quinton. If you do this story, I'd really appreciate it, but if not, thanks for reading this far :)
As a mother with a child who has autism, all I see is a lot of people not understanding autism (in the legal world) which has a lot other conditions including mental health issues and learning difficulties. Scott needed to be diagnosed and then get all the support by professionals and his family early in his life, rather that him masking it to suit others. Truly heartbreaking ❤️🩹 case.
I absolutely agree. I have a son and a niece with autism and my son is also on the schizophrenia spectrum disorder. I am a behavioral therapist who works with autistic children also. It’s so important to learn about these mental health disorders before jumping to conclusions ❤❤ 🧩

I’m not a parent but I agree. My best friend is on the spectrum, they were also my mentor when I first got into a new niche of art. You parents out there who have taken the time to understand not just your child, but autism as a broader subject are incredible parents and definitely more people need to try to understand better and educate themselves. Every time I see something whether it’s something that happened to someone with autism, or a case where someone with autism is the perpetrator, it just hits me different. I can only imagine if I had a child with ASD how I’d feel with how misunderstood ASD is in general, let alone in the legal system. We still have people who think their child getting autism is somehow worse than their kid passing from an illness we’ve been able to prevent, it’s not my place to tell people how to parent, but that thought process for example just amplifies how misunderstood it is and personally also disgusts me. Autism isn’t something shameful, people with it are often the sweetest amazing people, the stigma needs to stop. I hope you two mamas and your kids are doing well, keep being awesome.

If a family member starts telling you that they want to kill you, believe them!!! It's 2023, mental health should never be looked at as taboo. As always, you remembered the victims in such a loving and kind way.

CASE SUGGESTION: could you do the Stephanie Monn case from westville NJ? It's my hometown and happened a couple years before I was born so I lived my whole life with my mom's paranoia about ever letting me out by myself anywhere even though we live in such a small town. Stephanie was only 7 when she was abducted held captive and tortured and then dumped in a creek by a local man. Wow, this is a real hard one. I'd be scared to have him out on the streets but it also needs to get the mental health help he requires. So sad. I do believe mental health is important and wish his parents would have got him help. But I can also see how they could be in denial of their son wanting to kill them. Just so sad all around. Sending the survivors hugs.
I had never heard of this case. Excellent work, Britt. It’s so sad. I really wish Scott would have gotten the mental help he desperately needed. However, the murders were planned out so logically so I do understand the sentence.
I live in NJ about 25/30 miles of Long Branch! My friend is a retired cop from there maybe 5 years before this because of a car accident, and I have never heard of this before this video! Sad
I hate the fact that any kind of mental health problem, including depression, carries such a stigma still here in the US. We need to work on dropping the stigma and start taking care of our minds so stuff like this doesn't happen. This kid literally asked for help and his parents denied him of that because of the stigma that came with it. Such a shame
Hey everyone, all the love sent from N.Ireland Checking in a day late but watching now with my 'one of us' hoodie on and having breakfast Hope everyone is well? Ps love this look Brittany x
Thank you, for all you do, beautiful Brittany. To answer the 1st question... It is hard to answer what his motive was, but knowing that he spoke open of wanting to kill them, to his family leading up to this horrible day, (he warned about his feelings to family members), and, he did want to speak to his therapist, and his mother advised against it. I don't know, he was giving his feelings, and warning to his family, how he felt. Like a foreshadow. And he did have mental health issues. The 2nd answer to the question, is he legally responsible for the murders, brings me back to the first. He is receiving a sentence, for taking the lives of his family. I believe that life sentences without parole are just. I am feeling that his life sentences, are, as well yet he really never received the medical help and how he warned what he wanted to do to his family, on many occasions, to his family, leaves me without an answer. It doesn't excuse that he warned his family and nobody found him serious. His actions spoke horrifictly that he was, serious. Love for his Parents, Sister and Grandmother, and his Bother and all of the Family and Loved Ones, missing Them🙏💌
Thanks for another great video! (And DH says thanks for having the chant back 😂) thankfully off again tonight so can watch in more real time 😊 I think the sentence was too harsh tbh, I feel Scott needs MH help first, then sentence after he’s back to his optimal MH. That way you may get to see the emotions he wasn’t able to show. I have no idea of a motive tho 🤷🏻♀️ my heart just breaks for this entire family. Mentioning Robert Maudsley again cos I figure I’ll get on your nerves so much you’ll do it to keep me quiet 😂😂
Mental health issues are so real. I am NOT trying to victim blame here at all, but he was crying out for help. I think it's so easy to turn a blind eye when its someone we love because we want them to be "normal."" I will never understand why there is such a stigma with having mental health problems. The stigma should ve associated with people who ignore cries for help or ignore issues they see. It is not easy to deal with mental health, but we have to do better. I feel sorry for the victims, but I also feel sorry for Scott.
I am in Jersey I once lived in long branch. I cannot remember hearing about this. Anyway great job. I’d like to ask for coverage on the murder of Eddie Werner. From Jackson nj. He was a young boy who was killed by a boy named Sam manzie I went to elementary school with him. Turned out he(Sam) was being groomed or actually molested by some older guy at the time. Sad story. I believe his parents even tried to get him (Sam) like sent to a hospital or something. I think you’d be great at getting all the facts for this one.
Great job on this video. I had never heard of this case before watching your video. I have to say I can't really determine what I think the motive was in this case. I feel like when he was telling his mom that he was thinking about hurting them that those statements shouldn't have been ignored but I'm sure she really didn't think he would do anything. Undiagnosed or untreated mental health conditions often do lead to disasters much like this. I feel bad for those that are left to deal with the aftermath. I absolutely don't blame the grandfather for breaking all ties with his grandson after what he did.
Just wanted to mention that I have a gorgeous black and white fur baby named Josie and an equally pretty white fur baby named Lizzie. She has 6 toes on her paws and she’s quite “shapely “. She’s also a bit crazy, so I named her after Lizzie Borden. 😛
It's tragic that his family didn't take his concerns seriously. Granted I don't know all of the evidence, but continually reaching out for help doesn't sound like something a "cold blooded killer" would do. He did seem to love and appreciate his family, but he was clearly mentally ill. I find it very interesting that most people just don't believe that the ill person cannot control their thoughts and urges. While Steven Jr. had such loving things to say about his parents, there's an aspect that wasn't shared here - not only did they purposely not seek mental health treatment for him, they gave him really bad advice, AND allowed a gun in their home that was just left out in the open. They paid the ultimate price for those decisions, and several family members are left behind bearing all the grief. That's who my heart goes out to - Grandpa, Steven Jr., and everyone else connected to the family.
This is heartbreaking! I don't agree that the Mom would want Scott to go to a mental hospital because she didn't want him to tell his therapist because they would put him in a "looney bin". I do think something is wrong with Scott but he is also evil
I have a great case for you to cover if you’re interested! I watch a lot of true crime stories & have NEVER seen or heard this case covered! It was a big case in the mid to late eighties, that took place in Muncie, IN at Westside Park….2 local teenagers were brutally murdered while in their car one night, it was a huge story at the time (I think the female victims name was Kimberly) & I believe the investigators had a good idea of who did it but was never able to prove it! I think you would do a great job covering it!
I believe he is where he belongs and as far as a motive, I don't know. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear a reason why this needed to happen. RIP to all the victims ❤️ Case suggestion: Cody Joyce please and thank you. I've only seen one video and as far as I know, it still remains unsolved
How did he believe in Santa clause.... if the day he killed them... in the instagram eulogy he posted... he acknowledged his parents made Christmas come every year even tho they struggled financially? Seeing as him believing in Santa clause was brought up much later in the trial to bring up how "child like" he was. I can agree he needed help. I have autism with 2 also autistic children. And a sibling with schizophrenia. But why did nobody take his mental health needs seriously? He needed to be closely evaluated given his obvious schizophrenia symptoms. Not to be told to NOT be honest with doctors. I do agree he needed help. But something isn't adding up for me. Also why did anyone let someone with a childlike brain KNOW they had a gun in the house? Why did the brother tell Scott he had it? If we are expected to keep guns locked away from children... why wasn't this gun kept securely away from Scott and locked away or at least HIDDEN? They assure us he's childlike. Surely child like safety measures were needed?? This case has me wanting to look into more details. Because nobody on the outside of the family looking in had any clue he seemed child like Because they all assumed he was a neurotypical happy teen. Also... how did they get him into a program for ASD without an official diagnosis? I had to jump through hoops just to get my kids diagnosed and even for me it was a struggle to get my youngest into supportive school settings, which im still struggling with. And I live in nyc. We have Hella resources here in comparison. Some of these details just don't add up to me. But I do think his sentence was far too harsh for him. He did need help. And he even spoke up about it. I just know a few details don't add up and seem like holes in the story. Which is probably why the judge had no mercy for him. Inconsistencies piss off a judge like no other. Especially when it comes to the death of a whole family. I dont understand getting help for autism which he wasnt diagnosed with, but ignoring schizophrenia with psychotic tendencies??? Maybe im too analytical but something feels off and im sure the judge picked up on the things ive stated and just assumed the family was lying to save his skin so the judge wrote off scott entirely.
I have never heard of this heartbreaking tragedy. So many questions unanswered. Prison is not a mental health option, even if he never sees the outside again. Clearly issues previously existed. I feel bad for the families and loved ones forever gone, and those who will never see them again. Some mental diagnoses (schizophrenia) are not able to be completely recognized until 18/20 years old. Autism is very real, and presents itself in such a mariad of ways, it's also difficult to determine the level of consciousness, and capabilities, combined with mental health, I cannot imagine. The parents and family only know what was revealed to them from the son, and therapist. Many individuals don't disclose all of what they are experiencing out of fear. He definitely committed the beyond heinous slaying of the people he loved. He definitely deserves consequences. However I don't believe there will be a shred of mental health improvement, or comprehension in prison. I pray for this entire family, and the families and friends that are suffering. There is no tidy tie up to this one. Thank you for sharing it. P.S. you're awesome 😎

I'm not trying to have this sound some type of way but why the heck did they have an assault rifle in the first place? Did I miss that part? It's really tragic either way but this could have been a lot different if he didn't have access to gun that could hold that many rounds. This is just so sad. I can't imagine the fear his family had.

There is no doubt that his brain was not a typical one. Any lesion to the brain has residual effects, some of which may not manifest themselves right away or predictably. I do not believe he was completely in control of his thinking when he did this.
Not to mention he even said that he had to kill his mom with the light off because her face would have snapped him out of it and then he wouldn’t have been able to kill them. He wanted to kill them . Last year I found out that I have a small brain abnormality in my left frontal lobe. I have never had the urge to kill my family. My diagnosis is different I forget what it is exactly I would have to look at the paperwork but I had multiple types of MRI and my neurologist said that it is the best case scenario and there is absolutely nothing that I need to be worried about healthwise. She said that often many people can be born with whatever it is that I have but then it can also be caused by head trauma that can be caused during the birthing process but also if you are in some kind of accident where you hit your head. And this is the part where it is unclear because I hate that exact side of my head about a year and a half ago in a car accident that I was in and I didn’t get the MRIs until after the accident so we don’t know how it got there. Additionally it is also something that could happen as your brain develops I don’t know
1st- L🖤VE the black hair on you! 2nd- If you're not feeling like doing the "one of us" chant lately, then don't. Not to completely compare, but Bailey stopped doing her "theme song" when it started annoying her, and even though people complained...she didn't lose subscribers because of it. Also, she's been slowly doing it again, because she misses doing it and it's when SHE chooses. You do you. No shame. 🤘🏻 3rd- CASE SUGGESTION- the murder of Cara Knott. 🤞🏻
I knew the family and was freaked out when I saw all this on a tv set in a eye doctors article ... I could of been there... I could of been dead or if I was fast enough Scott would of been dead ... Most likely I would go into super mad holding it in for 45 years murder mode ( Adrian knows about this ) I would swirled around where he got so confused I would of grabbed him grabbed the rifle and blown his head off right there in the room .. That's what would of really happened...
I think he is ill and he asked for help and was told no. I think it’s very tragic and very sad. I don’t think he got the sentence he should have, he should be in a hospital getting help.
I think Scott needed help with his illness. He should have spoken freely with his therapist. I’m not victim blaming, I just wonder if things would be different if he had gotten help for those thoughts.
Although ADHD, autism and OCD go hand in hand if you have one you usually have at least one of the others if not all 3. I do disagree with what his brother said about his mum who would have wanted Scott to get help in a mental facility if she did she would have got him help instead of telling him to stay quiet else he'll end up in the looney bin. I'm not victim shaming but he was let down and this could probably have been prevented.
I don’t agree with the sentence. Especially hearing he asked for help and to talk to his therapist. This is a case where I think a mental hospital is needed
Jesus Christ... those thoughts of his that he voiced to like ALL of his family sound like classic autistic/ADHD intrusive thoughts. Man, I wish he would've been able to get to a therapist and get some help to keep him from acting on thoughts that intrude and won't leave him alone. Also really wondering about the need for a loaded AK-47 in a house? Don't love that. Some... interesting takes about autism in this case. (Source: I'm autistic.) Regardless, this is an absolutely tragic case. RIP to the victims and my heart breaks for the entire family. 💔 For the questions: 1) I think he needed a lot more help and support than he was getting and his intrusive thoughts, when he was saying they were turning to urges, really should've been taken to a therapist. Perhaps this could've been prevented. 2) He may have had scary intrusive thoughts and very much needed (and needs) professional help, but he still did it. And it seemed very planned out. I think he should be kept somewhere away from others but in an institution of some kind where he can get help, not a prison.

@bratterstein your makeup look today is stellar!!!!! Thanks for all your hard work!!!!
The best part of the week, I have been trying to watch all your videos because i’m obsessed!
I've watched this twice and I still really don't know what to believe.
So sad man..my twins were born on New years Eve.. damn man..
Yes! Happy Monday everyone 🙂
Happy Monday!
It's going to take me a few days to fully come to an option of this case. You look beautiful ❤️🌹
Hi Bae, love the hair and eye makeup! Now to watch the video.
I'd never heard of this case. Reminds me of Halderson, Amato, and Guy.
Love the intro caught my attention for sure😊
Case suggestion: Check out Judith Ann Neeley in Alabama. Terrible case that scarred me since childhood 2:48
Hey everyone, all the love sent from N.Ireland
Checking in a day late but watching now with my 'one of us' hoodie on and having breakfast
Hope everyone is well?
Ps love this look Brittany x
thank you
I thought of Bryan Koeberger when you said Scott loved his family but felt detached from everyone.
This is what happens when families try to hide problems with mental health. It is so sad
I have a 17 year son with autism.. and my 3 year old is non verbal, and now has to have an iep, I know the struggle...
That’s jersey families for you they keep up appearances big time!! ( Jersey Shore ((not the show the location))girl here)
The Lisa and Devon Manderach case is very disheartening.
"Los Angeles has 4 million people" 😳😳 Ma'am, my whole state is only 4 million people. 🤯
Love for his Parents, Sister and Grandmother, and his Bother and all of the Family and Loved Ones, missing Them🙏💌
Says there's nothing available in your merch store :(
Please cover the Richard Speck murders!!!
Thanks for another great video! (And DH says thanks for having the chant back 😂) thankfully off again tonight so can watch in more real time 😊
I think the sentence was too harsh tbh, I feel Scott needs MH help first, then sentence after he’s back to his optimal MH.
Does the lighting keep getting really bright for half a second then fade, and happening over and over again?
Yay I’m happy to see you! I hope you’re doing great! You rock! 🤘🏻❤️
I have no ideas where his motive could've come from, but it's so terribly tragic for the whole family.
This is heartbreaking! I don't agree that the Mom would want Scott to go to a mental hospital because she didn't want him to tell his therapist because they would put him in a "looney bin". I do think something is wrong with Scott but he is also evil
Hey where do I get the 'chillin not killin' shirt?
Craziest spree ever? Woo Bum-kon. Look it up.
Never has a fly ever caused so much destruction...
You need merch with “ and I quote”
I believe he is where he belongs and as far as a motive, I don't know. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear a reason why this needed to happen.
RIP to all the victims ❤️
Case suggestion: Cody Joyce please and thank you. I've only seen one video and as far as I know, it still remains unsolved
I'm only 2 seconds in, but just wanted to say that I like your hair color. 🖤
January is cold in Jersey. Not a great time for a visit lol
Yes!!! I'm a diehard true crime addict! N yes I'm a Bratt Packer! I wanna b ur grandma! I'm 64 n I love ur videos cuz ur more like the girl next door n ur make up is crazy sometimes n that just makes u more real! Have u ever heard of the Cross Country killer, last name Rodger's (Earl or Carl..I think) dude was stupid crazy n even said he met Nichol Brown (OJ) the night she died n said he was the one who did it, n detail! " My brother the serial killer" on U-tube was nail biting good!!!
I'm not trying to have this sound some type of way but why the heck did they have an assault rifle in the first place? Did I miss that part? It's really tragic either way but this could have been a lot different if he didn't have access to gun that could hold that many rounds. This is just so sad. I can't imagine the fear his family had.
I also find this to be the most bizarre part of the story especially considering it happened in NJ which has very strict laws about that.
They should have appointed someone else to be Scott's guardian ... Guardian ad Litem.
* One of Us* check in!!!! Your bad a** research skills just shine:)") And...my Murdaugh family murders is my suggestion. You know I suggest it every time :) your skills will come in super handy on this one. ♡♡♡
I'm in One of those famz that was u don't talk about nuthin to nobody so I get it but he was definitely trying to get help I think he deserves time but I agree with da brother it should be in a mental health place ND if Jersey anything like CT jail he just gonna get worse God bless All the families KK 🙏😔💚
You do you. No shame. 🤘🏻
3rd- CASE SUGGESTION- the murder of Cara Knott. 🤞🏻
In the cloest town to me only has.....maybe 100 people 150 not more than 200 anyway lol pretty much a village
Whatcha yelling about Charlie?? 🤣
Ayo i was locked up with him in middlesex county in the juvenile facility he was in the honors unit and was quiet would walk in circles and read a lot
💜💜💜
Paige Johnston from Kentucky
I’m so early ❤🎉
Well, he did talk to his family. They told him to essentially do something else to take his mind off it.
I know. It's really sad. I wonder how things would have changed.
I heard the baby.
Where & when did Scott learn to shoot? It's not easy to keep an assault rifle on target?
Dude, i know.
(Source: I'm autistic.)
Regardless, this is an absolutely tragic case. RIP to the victims and my heart breaks for the entire family. 💔
For the questions:
1) I think he needed a lot more help and support than he was getting and his intrusive thoughts, when he was saying they were turning to urges, really should've been taken to a therapist. Perhaps this could've been prevented.
2) He may have had scary intrusive thoughts and very much needed (and needs) professional help, but he still did it. And it seemed very planned out. I think he should be kept somewhere away from others but in an institution of some kind where he can get help, not a prison.
✌
Was Scott allowed to attend the funerals?
It’s crazy I’m from Jersey 45 miles from there to be exact and I never heard of this case. My they all SIP💔🕊
Is it possible that Scott was a twin & his twin died in the uterus?
i believe he was evil, and he just wanted to kill his family he had no remorse for what he did. He had no real motive..
