This was good on the main Why's and When's to use side-spin vs draw/follow. Most videos focus too much on how to adjust aim for side-spin and don't talk enough about the why and when. But there's other reasons I see pros use side spin, including when rails are not even involved, and I'd love to see all those scenarios covered/demonstrated. Things like: spin transfer on niggly little shots, or to manufacture a stop shot when there's a bit of angle or to manufacture an angle for the cueball to travel when the natural shot was straight.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I use lots of side spin so I don't add little by mistake 😂

At the end there I get what the instructor was trying to point out that side obviously makes that easier to get perfect position but Chris brought up a great point because from the other angle draw or stun would have worked more reliably, instructor was totally right on 9 ball you're going to have a really hard time without using side 8 ball is a little bit more doable but you still will have a hard time running racks because of the low percentage leaves you'll need to work

I disagree with the mindset that you must always get the right angle and if you don't the game is over... You need the flexibility to be able to use flat angles just as much as good angles. If I got a flat angle on that shot I wouldn't try to stun over, my mind instantly tells me to use follow and left spin for the two rail position. Sure it is lower probability than the sharper angle, but the game isn't over. No one plays perfect pool EVER and you can train to play perfect pool all day and still fail, but I believe you must also train for not so perfect pool. Demetrius doesn't always play perfect pool either and to dismiss the situation where you got a flat angle but desired the wide angle as loss of game is absurd. Chris had the right thought process... "What do I do in this situation?"

Thank you for the comment William! You are 100% right. In a game you don't give up if you get out of line. You use recovery shots and back up plans to do your best to regroup and get the job done. No doubt about it.
When I train with people, however, I am trying to get them to learn the benefits of staying in line, and learn how to do this. But you're right, you also have to learn recovery shots. I always say I practice two things: I practice shooting hard shots, and I practice not getting them. Both skills are critical to success.
What I've seen is that most people enjoy practicing hard shots, but they don't spend equal time practicing finding ways to avoid hard shots or positional plays.
So when I am training on how to stay in line there are no recovery shots in my dojo. They are like jump cues. If you get hooked you have to jump, but when we are practicing a run out and hook ourselves we try again to get where we aren't hooked.
Then when we play there are no holds barred and we just try to get the job done!
      Thanks for tuning in!

Sidespin is so mystified by the pool community. Noobs are always amazed when I can roll the ball full table, and get perfect position EFFORTLESSLY by gently tapping it with a full tip of side. If the CB and OB are close, you dont even need to account for throw or missing. But they're so avoidant towards sidespin that they think its something much more complicated

Easy.... Master your ASS. Angle (or Aim), Speed, Spin. Get those 3 correct... WIN.
