even if a replacement is cheap, its much more satisfying to fix it than buy a new one - and you're helping the environment by reducing waste - the usual difficulty with these things is finding how to get them apart, which is why videos like this are so useful .....

Shocked and totally amazed that it now works after following the video. So proud of myself for repairing, instead of replacing, my remote. I used rubbing alcohol, Qtips and tissue to clean and dry all the surfaces. Thanks for the great video !!

Thanks! My Samsung remote actually had a small screw that had to be removed first (accessible from inside the battery compartment) but the rest of the procedure was very similar.
Worked on my Samsung Remote - opened it for the 1st Time since 13 years or so.

I put my remote in the washing machine and after been washed for about two hours I tried this and it worked, thank you :)
Gonna admit i was a bit doubtful but to my surprise it really worked! Thank you so much 😊. The remote does feel a little bit loose after opening it up but it works just fine.

Thank you! Dropped my remote on the wood floor. Used propylene glycol from my humidor to clean, put back together and the remote works again.

Thanks! If you don’t have the spray, a couple of drops of lighter fluid applied directly to the cotton buds will work just as good.
Our remote had stopped working after only a year. Had thrown it away after fiddling with it for an hour. Went on Amazon and put a new one in my cart (only $8) then I thought, "quit being a lazy ass" so I dug the remote out of the trash and got to work. It wasn't easy to pry it apart, I didn't have a guitar pick so I (carefully) used a paring knife. Took a couple minutes but I got it apart, separated all the pieces, wiped them down with a sliiightly damp cloth, reassembled and it works like new. Thank you =)

Thank you the remote wasn't working for the last two weeks so have been using my phone but just tried this and now it works normal

Great video. My remote went for a swim through the washing machine. I blew a hair dryer into it for 10+ minutes, but no luck. With the video, I was able to open the remote and found the contacts and membrane were still very wet. After drying them off, the remote was back up and running like new - and it even smells like fresh laundry and lavender now! Thank you!

This is a great video, very clear and to the point. The same problem seems to happen with many remotes, the sticky fluid inside is most likely from the flexible plastic, it is a design problem, it isn't caused by users spilling stuff on it.

Most likely, this is not what causes failure, but has a slight chance. If you're going to disassemble the remote, cleaning is a good idea. When a remote gets dropped, the LED tears away from the circuit board, lifting the traces. This is not reparable, but there is an option. Scrape the green off the remaining nearby traces, bend the LED leads over and solder them to the traces. That repaired mine.

Thank you so much. Battery corrosion caused the inferred light to stay on constantly, interfering with tv functions. Cleaned PCB with alcohol swab q-tip and BAM!!!! Remote working like a champ!!!!

Thank you!! I haven't used this remote since I got a phone with an IR blaster in 2013! Your tips worked perfectly; I didn't have any cleaner, so I used alcohol and a cotton swab to clean the circuit board.

Thank you, it easy fixed my remote. I used two bass guitar picks (stronger) on mine, so I did not used the screw driver and it opened in a snap, no mark on my remote! :)

Worked great. I used IPA and the most lint-free rag I could find in the house; turns out the IPA was 99%. Was amazed at how much grime my white rag picked up. Not sure if that's coming from the elastomer or seeping in from years of use.

Thank you. Mine ended up in the washer. The batteries came out first and was surprised at how well the board was protected from water.
Seemed to work for now. I used isopropyl alcohol to clean. I also noticed some corrosion on the battery contact springs. I gave them a little sandpaper treatment and renewed the batteries for fresh contact surfaces on both sides.
I used this video just to see how it was done but i didnt have the dry circuit cleaner bottle so in my case i used a q-tips and cotton balls with a bit of isopropyl alcohol to clean all the circuit and all the plastic parts and i just "repaired" two almost brand new remote controls i was almost was going to throw away a few months back. So in my case this video helped me to understand how to open it and where to clean. Thanks for the video.

Thanks! Though my model is slightly different, I was able to successfully revive my Samsung Bn59-01179a remote with the help of this video.

@@meghanhunkele4467 Guitar pick didn't work for me, and neither did a spudger. I used a precision screwdriver like is used for repairing reading glasses. It took more force than I thought it would. When I got a small gap, I wedged a normal sized flat head screwdriver in there and worked around the edges until I got it off without breaking the case or damaging the components inside. It was very easy after that. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Sorted mine out thanks to you. Like another poster I've used household cleaning alcohol. Concentrated on the button that was giving most trouble: the on/off one.
The tip about making the infrared signal visible by pointing it at a phone camera is invaluable, removes all doubt about the state of the batteries or whether the buttons work, etc. Brilliant, thanks once again.

Remote got washed in machine and did not work with new battery; thanks your video on how to open. Just dried every part with blow dryer and have a clean working remote again
