      Just note that caffeinated coffee seems to have the opposite effects after an sTBI =(. I think that I have to switch to decaf as caffeinated coffee is starting to make me far more stressed at all times and is giving me weird headaches (as if I am going through withdrawals)...
      I'm definitely between a rock and a hard place right now...

      Do these all apply to caffeinated? The glucose, fight/flight adrenal with caffeinated? Not decaf.

    The issue is HOW the coffee is decaffeinated (I’m literally a guru). If methylene chloride, That is a harsh chemical that leaves residuals in the final product; not only bad for the body, but also tastes bad.
    Look for decaf that has been decaffeinated via Swiss Water Process (more about the process, not actual Swiss water). Better for you and tastes better too. As with anything healthier for you, It will cost a little more. Don’t take my word for it. Look it up!

      I drink decaf all the time. I just checked my Kirkland (Costco) coffee and was happy to find it is decaffeinated using water. No chemicals ☺️

      @@StephanieKraftKicking Horse Coffee uses the Swiss process. The company only has one brand of decaf but I love it. It’s whole bean so it requires grinding. Maybe it comes preground, but I’m not sure.

      CO2 method is also natural and safe and it preserves coffee quality better. Try Kimbo and illy, best italian coffee brands.

    I used to drink regular coffee everyday until my body started hurting all over. I found out that I was dealing with high blood pressure, and regular coffee seemed to exacerbate that issue. Now I drink decaf and that problem is gone:-)

    I think it would be very helpful when talking about decaf coffee, to talk about the difference between the Swiss Water process and the chemical process often used. There are a lot of very negative chemicals used in the non Swiss Water process, like Formaldehyde, etc. Are there any studies comparing the two?
    There was also a study out a while ago (no idea what it was called or who did it) but it said that decaf coffee raised ApoB levels where the regular coffee did not. Can you address any of this Thomas? Would love to know what your research would show.

      I truly drink coffee for the flavor! I prefer decaf, and that used be all I drank, until learning about the dangers of the way it’s processed.

      thankfully these days, after the bad rep of formaldehyde, most decaf coffee is made using either water, CO2 or ...sugarcane (ethyl acetate). But yes, Swiss Water is the golden standard as far I as know.

    One should drink GOOD decaf coffee. In that way, you could still enjoy coffee and not have as many jitters and symptoms that regular coffee brings. I had brands of decaf coffee that helped me get through college.

    Repace coffee slowly by subbing out 1 tsp of roasted chicory root grains & keep increasing the amt until all coffee is out of your diet. Plus tastes so good! 😊

      You don't need to have decaf in the morning. Decaf is useful for later in the day if you want to have a coffee but don't want to be up all night.

    Yes I drink decaf coffee every morning after my workout and before breaking my fast for years. And yes it still keep me alert and energyzed but drinking late afternoon or evening Do Not keep me awake at bedtime. It still have some caffeine but not enough to bother your nervous system, I believe. If you use instant decaffeinated coffee, make sure you buy the brands that use the CO2 decaffeination process without chemicals that is very important for your health in the long run. It cost double but worth it and flavor is not different than the brewed coffee. My boss used to say where I hide my coffee maker? Another trick for instant coffee, keep it in the freezer when not in use. That preserve the quality and flavor of the coffee until you finish the jar. Always keep in freezer.

    I love 1 tablespoon of ginger juice in decaf coffee. It compensates for the kind of half-baked taste of decaf, plus the combination of antioxidants of ginger juice and coffee is just twice the deal. Recommended trying!

      There are several cultures around the world that drink coffee and have longevity. That's good enough for me, but I drink swiss water decaf because regular coffee can aggrevate heart arrythmias in me, the decaf doesn't regardless of how much I drink. Plus, I want to enjoy life, engage in social activities and I like it, with just a little cream or even black.

    I sip on green tea all day, and average about 4 DL or 4 teabags, noticed huge benefits of small amount of caffeinated green tea and the polyphenols. same with coffee I only take a small sip through the day, like 0.3 DL per sip. Microdosing caffeine has given me way more energy than a large cup at once of say 100-150mg in one sitting.

      Drink matcha tea instead for optimal health. Costco selling organic. But if you want higher grade as ceremonial, it tastes ways better and higher quality. Costco matcha is still good if you don't want to pay too much for daily tea.

    So glad to hear this! I switched to Decaf recently, but did not order Organic. I did have to adjust to the difference, but maybe this is due to age. I start the day with Green & White tea, then just before my fast is ending I have a cuppa decaf. Just heard your video about 6 teas for weight. Great info

    A lot of people in this comment section seem to think decaf has no caffeine. It still has caffeine, it's just a lot less than normal. Decaf makes it easier to keep caffeine to safe levels and avoid negative side effects, but still gives you the attention/focus that most people drink coffee for.

    Gotta try decaf
    I drink waaay too much coffee (whereas I think it impacts my fat burning negatively, even as I'm almost on perpetual keto, and can't really afford to keep losing even more muscle with intermittent fasting); one cup of regular in the morning but replacing the rest with decaf sounds like a good plan.

      @@barbaras3206 I'm pretty much at the end of the road when it comes to diet/fat burning, atm. I could get the 4 pack if I was losing weight, and/or if I spend 15+hrs at the gym weekly (which I can't, these days, due to work)
      I'm planning on a lipo (which I've never done) to get rid if the abdominal fatty cells permanently.

    i started drinking decaf cause i would take preworkout and drink coffee throughout the day and realized that by 6:30-7:00 my body would crash and i will just feel groggy cause all the caffeine i was consuming, i started drinking decaf and i noticed i have energy at the same time i used to crash, its such a great substitute and i also i am on weight loss journey and i also noticed that decaf suppressed my appetite as well.

    I am not a coffee, addict, per se, but I like it in the morning, and generally have tea in the afternoon. For a long time I did 50-50, then I weaned down further to only 1/3 caffeinated. It’s a little bit of a drag sometimes to blend it myself, but I don’t like being addicted to anything. This is just icing on that cake. And, yes, try to get good quality!

    I gave up caffeine 3 months ago. My testosterone went from below 100 nano grams up to 400.. average I’ve changed nothing but giving up the caffeine 100% guys you only live once and we deserve better !

    I want to give the viewers a major life hack when it comes to using decaf coffee as a healthy antioxidant beverage. Do it cold brew in the fridge overnight, but not with water. Instead? A good quality coconut water instead. Putting decaf ground coffee in coconut water in the fridge overnight to cold brew, not only pulls out all the coffee nutrients into the coconut water, but the coconut water itself is highly alkalizing, and loaded with potassium. So it becomes a true alkalizing power beverage, when the potassium in the coconut water, is infused with the antioxidants of decaf coffee. You can even cold brew it doing half and half, half water and have coconut water. Remember, coffee is still acidic, so cold brewing it in coconut water that is highly alkaline, brings the PH of the beverage back to neutral (7.2), when coffee acidity in plain water is usually around a 6. Yes, decaf coconut water cold brew. Don’t confuse coconut water, with coconut milk. Not the same. Although the healthiest creamer for coffee, happens to also be coconut milk. 😆

    I used to drink 2 to 3 cups a day. I switch to decaf 8 months ago. I feel 1000x better. I have tired days like normal, but I haven’t had any fatigue in 7 in a half months. Compared to years of feeling fatigued almost daily. I’m not going back. I did it with a FREE 11 to 12 days step guide on TH-cam.
    I reduce my caffeine intake. Than started adding more and more amounts of decaf to my regular daily until I was drinking only decaf. I only had slight headaches towards the end of my days on the first two days.

    I have ADD, so caffeine may actually affect me differently, but I’ve always found hot coffee in the morning to be more of a placebo for me in the last 10 or so years. I think it’s funny that the intro paints coffee as only being desirable as a caffeine delivery system :p I actually like how coffee tastes 😁
    Anyway, appreciate this video as always.

    Surprised you're not mentioning organic coffee vs. non-organic coffee. Non-organic coffee bean growers use a massive amount of pesticides.

      So much pesticide! Like globally a high percentage, but coffee is made from the seed which is not in contact with the pesticide, so it doesn't really hold onto the chemicals the way fruit and vegetables do. It's more of a threat to the environment than yourself.
      That being said, I ain't taking any chances. I drink almost only organic coffee and if I drink decaf, it's organic swiss water decaf.

    ive been on decaf for 3 months now, i switched for health reasons and because regular coffee gave me very bad anxiety, even with decaf i can still feel the anxiety a bit from the tiny bit of caffeine in it because my brain is just so sensitive to any amount of caffeine. I had no withdrawl effects switching from regular to decaf luckily it was a very easy switch but i know some people in my family who cant even go without 3 cups a day of regular coffee so its different for everyone. I wish the decaf was 100% caffeine free that would be best for me, i also cut out foods with caffeine.

    Back 103 lbs ago when I was pre diabetic regular coffee would make me go hypoglycemic. Now that I'm fat adapted and keto and my fasting glucose is around 72 it no longer does that ever thankfully.

    I blend all organic beans, 25% caff, 75% decaf,for years. My 57-y/o liver should be gone from decades of carb and alcohol abuse but had a fibroscan done and no evidence of damage other than fatty liver, ditto labs, all good, can only figure the coffee helped greatly. I would not have coffee within a few hours of taking thiamine.

    Switched too decaff a few months ago and feel better and ever and getting leaner while gaining muscle
    Granted it's probably because of my 10 hours of sleep and whole food high protein high fat diet and training intensely and walking 20k steps a day BUT it's definitely the decaff x)

      Don't be concerned. Just get it done the Swiss method. Pure water. Starbucks and Costa do it this way, iliya etc. It's VERY COMMON

    I drink my first cup of coffee shortly before my workout, which is usually near midday. I'll typically use coffee as the base for my most-workout collagen shake, and I'll typically have a cup after lunch. As for the caffeine, I really hardly notice it.

      I don't think this video is meant to throw caffeine under the bus. It should be avoided later in the day. The point is to also give consideration to decaf because of all the naturally occurring beneficial compounds other than caffeine can be continued to be enjoyed after your caffeine cutoff time.
      Coffee roasters have also evolved over the years that there are plenty of decaf options available without sacrificing taste. Only drawback is the decaffeination process causes the roasted whole beans to be more porous and lose freshness faster.
      There's also some debate on the safety of some decaf processes, but Swiss water should be good, and sugarcane or Ethyl Acetate is maybe also perfectly fine? I forget what the other one is called, something involving chloride but I only get my decaf from local reputable roasters and this hasn't been an issue.

    I drink green or bergamot infused tea later in the day rather than any kind of coffee. I do however drink coffee in the late morning for its exercise benefits and makes me alert in the morning. Decaf does have similar benefits to coffee though antioxidants may be up to 15% lower. Just be careful how they process decaf because the solvents have issues. Methylene chloride solvent can irritate the nose, throat, give headaches & temporarily slows down your central nervous system. The decaf process has also been found to increase fatty acids that can affect metabolic syndrome and increase the risk of heart disease. So please be careful drinking 3-4 cups of decaf a day. Just remember it is still an ultra-processed beverage. Coffee beans in its natural state has caffeine.

    I switched to decaf. I was drinking 3-4 cups in am of regular for 30 years then going to the gym. I’m 57 in good shape. Huge problem happened, my joints especially my knees were killing me. After a lot of trial and error eliminating foods, I realized I had developed cortisol resistance. Coffee been jacking up my cortisol for years and now body wasn’t responding. Switched to decaf and after a few weeks I’m 90% better. Might never go back to caffeine or maybe 1 cup. But that could lead back to 3-4.

    I’ve been drinking decaf two years now and love it. My dangerously high cortisol levels plummeted once I cut out caffeine (combined with other dietary/life changes). Now when I have a regular coffee I’m hyper aware of how much it affects my nervous system - super unpleasant wirey buzz! It can take some trial and error to find decaf beans with the flavor you like, but worth it in the end!

    Just now about to watch this one. Love this guy and what he shares with us after walking the walk. Anyone know if he has any more videos about reducing extra skin when losing weight. I am 47, fire fighter(lots of injuries over the years)but after ballooning to 343lbs I am down to 284.5 as of this morning😅. Just anxious to help my body best I can to keep elasticity up while hoping I can keep the skin tightening happening. I am in keto with 1 or two meals a day. I have been doing a 48 hour fast every week for two weeks after watching Thomas video about the autophagy and cleaning out corrupt proteins to allow the skin to do its thing. Have plenty of Cetaphil moisturizer and their lotion to help on the outside while eating clean and keeping nutrients up. Just curious if he has any more videos anyone can direct me to where he goes more in depth about his particular process. The dood is more shredded than a Julian salad!(Tropic Thunder)😄. But it’s so impressive what he has accomplished! 🍻🤙🏽. Thanks in advance!!

    I believe that to get coffee decaffeinated, some fairly harmful chemicals are used and can be found in trace amounts. I tend to stay clear because of this.

    As a diabetic, Caffeine is the one thing I don't want but have to deal with when drinking coffee. The problem is, I don't like strong black coffee, and prefer artificial flavors like a vanilla roast or something of the like. With decaf, I don't see anything that seems good. The labels just say decaf, and the flavor is plain. I'd imagine it's like nonalcoholic beer in the sense that people drink it for the alcohol, so the nonalcoholic doesn't have as many companies trying to make better tasting versions of it. If anyone knows of any good brands or types of decaf or half caf coffee, let me know.

    There is a report that just came out that said that erythritol causes heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. I use erythritol! What am I going to put in my coffee now? Can you help with this and have your read the report. It is very troubling!

    I have had to switch from regular to decaf and go to a low-sodium diet, to get my blood pressure down to a good level. That works but I am very disappointed in the poor selection of decaf coffee available. There are dozens of coffee brands available at my grocery but only three of them are decaf. This sucks to be a coffee lover and have only a few lamé choices available.

    I make 1 regular coffee (percolator) in the morning, than before I leave home I will add 1L of water to my machine, and run it again with the same coffee powder , bottle it, and that's my drink for the next 4 hours.

I spend 3rd of my life at a fire station, sometimes sleep isn't the greatest, obviously cortisol levels are higher, how do you think keto/fasting/exercise/coffee work for those in that kind of environment. I often wonder if I'm pushing my adrenals/cortisol levels with fasting/HFLC diet, exercise, etc.

    Hi Thomas, hope you’re well, just had a question regarding Decaf.
    I bought some Swiss water certified grounds, however drinking this coffee (around 1L over a couple of hours) has resulted in a sharp sinus pressure around my forehead and lightheadedness, this went away after around 3 days each time. This happened on 2 separate occasions, I don’t know why this would occur but was hoping you might have some insight. Kind Regards

    Exactly it’s no difference in my performance I noticed as well. Especially if you are living a balanced lifestyle ( food wise) , sleep etc. Especially if you a serial coffee drinker it’s basically a placebo effect at this point 😂. I would no because I accidentally bought decaf a few days ago and just found out today lol 😮.

      Decaf still has some caffeine, it's not caffeine free. It's just a lot less than normal. Decaf is a better option for sustained energy without the spikes and side effects of high caffeine intake.

    Why I do not drink decaf.
    The hard beans are warmed and soaked in liquid to dissolve and remove the caffeine in one of four ways: using water alone, using a mixture of water and solvents (most commonly methylene chloride or ethyl acetate) applied either directly or indirectly, or using water and “supercritical carbon dioxide.”
