This music was essential for creating the sense of foreboding and dread without which ALIENS would not have succeeded. Fantastic musicians, too, especially the oboist -- such a lovely vibrato. Gilles, could you perhaps talk a little about your workflow? How do you go about creating an extended theme suite?
Hello. I'm glad of such interest. However there's not much to say about it. Why I choose 1 music in particular? Various reasons. It depends of each. Sometimes I listen a soundtrack and see some potential to it and then it motivates me to do it. Sometimes I have it in mind for some time but didn't do it before because I felt there would have been a massive work time to it. Sometimes I wasn't much interested in the first place but then found out some interesting parts and trying to "enhance" it to make it more enjoyable. And then sometimes I love it and just want more of it (just like classics such Terminator, etc). As for the process, I listen to the whole soundtracks available (regular CD, deluxe, complete, recording sessions, etc) and pick up only the cues that interests me. Then, I sort of "compose" it in my head to see how all these pieces could work together. And I use the software Audacity to edit all of this. Then, Photoshop and Davinci Resolve for the video. I learned all of this by myself.
Awesome work Gilles! Futile Escape is one of my favorite pieces but you made a great selection of cues! May I request a suite from Cobra Kai season 4? I am wondering what cues you would pick for that😊
Not yet watched Cobra Kai Season 4 (mostly because someone here on the channel spoiled me with the name of the winner of the championship and loosing the surprise disgusted me to watch it for now).
Yup frankly that was big rip-off mr Horner - but you Krull soundtrack made up for it by a lot. Now i could listen to the Firemares on a loop.....hint hint.....
It is, Horner didn't have time to finish the music in time for the movie to open so Cameron used this in spots. Horner was not happy about it and it, among other things, caused a big rift between them for a long time.
