    This music was essential for creating the sense of foreboding and dread without which ALIENS would not have succeeded. Fantastic musicians, too, especially the oboist -- such a lovely vibrato. Gilles, could you perhaps talk a little about your workflow? How do you go about creating an extended theme suite?

    • @GillesNuytens
      @GillesNuytens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hello. I'm glad of such interest. However there's not much to say about it. Why I choose 1 music in particular? Various reasons. It depends of each. Sometimes I listen a soundtrack and see some potential to it and then it motivates me to do it. Sometimes I have it in mind for some time but didn't do it before because I felt there would have been a massive work time to it. Sometimes I wasn't much interested in the first place but then found out some interesting parts and trying to "enhance" it to make it more enjoyable. And then sometimes I love it and just want more of it (just like classics such Terminator, etc). As for the process, I listen to the whole soundtracks available (regular CD, deluxe, complete, recording sessions, etc) and pick up only the cues that interests me. Then, I sort of "compose" it in my head to see how all these pieces could work together. And I use the software Audacity to edit all of this. Then, Photoshop and Davinci Resolve for the video. I learned all of this by myself.

      @@BasilicoIrish This quite intrigued me. So I searched and found this information:
      _The first part of the track "Resolution and Hyperspace" was not used in Aliens. However, the unsued section did appear in the finale of the 1988 action movie Die Hard (directed by John McTiernan), used when terrorist Karl emerges from the Nakatomi building after his apparent death and attempts to kill John McClane. The track was originally only placed in Die Hard as temporary source music until the film's composer, Michael Kamen, could write his own cue for the scene. However, director McTiernan liked it so much the track was retained in the finished film._
      _McTiernan did not like a piece created for the final scene where Karl attempts to kill McClane, and decided to use a temporary track that was already in place: a piece of James Horner's unused score for Aliens (1986)._
      Well. As much as I have seen both films, this particular cue makes me think of Aliens, not Die Hard, even if it was not used in Aliens but used in Die Hard. And, as it was composed for Aliens, it's still an Aliens cue 😄
