Fantastic score. People should see the Assembly Cut version of the film. Story is a lot more fleshed out, and a fitting end to the trilogy. (No, there was never a fourth one, that was just a fan fiction film.)
Probably one of, if not the, best and heartful movie soundtracks that ever touched me so deeply. It fits the story perfectly, and wonderfully and climactically ends our childhood hero, Ripley's life and struggle.

We commit these bodies to the void with a glad heart. For within each seed, there is a promise of a flower, and within each death, no matter how small, there's always a new life. A new beginning.
The fact that not even the Special Edition went with Fincher's original edit for this scene is an absolute crime. Just before Ripley says 'No.' to Bishop's proposal, we can see her trying to make a decision, torn between what she believes is the right thing and the prospect of getting a life back after being in a constant nightmare. After the pain of consideration, her resolve is solidified once more and she closes the fence between her and Bishop, sealing her fate. It was beautifully done and it's a real shame they kept the theatrical edit where she instantly replies.
The screenplay was the problem, lol. Watch the "making of" for Alien 3, think it's still on TH-cam. They kept changing the screenplay every day on set, props to Fincher and the actors rolling with it and giving it their all.
Fincher should take much more credit for making this movie a masterpiece. I think its super underrated...he returned it to its roots...cameron turned it poppy and fincher explored depths of humanity all without a freaking real screenplay
If John Williams ever passes away, Elliot Goldenthal should be the composer for the future Star Wars movies. The part at 6:15 is where I picture Anakin marching with the stormtroopers to the Jedi temple for the Jedi purge. And 9:00 where Ripley is on the platform ready to jump off sounds a bit like Tattooine where Luke is watching the sunset seems pretty saddening to me. Both feeling hopeless.
@@serwinzzalot9989 I like Hans Zimmer, but we really need Elliot back. I haven't seen one movie lately where the entire soundtrack was done by him. The movies I know he did music for besides Alien³ were Batman Forever Batman and Robin Demolition Man Interview With The Vampire SWAT Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within Pet Sematary I had no idea he worked on Across The Universe up until now
Prometheus's soundtrack was pretty good, too. The only thing is that it is best enjoyed separately from the actual movie. I barely noticed it while watching, but when I heard it alone, I thought about how cool it sounded.
Still remember having chills when Ripley does her cruciform fall into the pit. The music from 9 minutes on is sublimely powerful, and a true answer to Hanson's "Romantic" utilized so effectively during the end credits to the first Alien.
Throughout the score various low sounds represent the xenomorph or its presence. I like how Ripley's theme at 0:47 ('The Survivor Is A Woman' on Expanded Score) is joined by a contrabassoon, giving perhaps a hint that she was not the only survivor after all.
the only thing bad about this movie was the Xenomorph running around, I wish they could redo that ...BTW the Directors cut ( where the Xeno is "born" out of the Ox) is way better.
Y'know, outside the AVP films, which exist as their own franchise of... 2 films, there are my favorite Alien franchise films: Aliens Alien 3 Alien Alien Resurrection
the directors cut of 3 is the best version of the film. explains a much better story line. why this xeno is bigger and moves differently and they even show a quick scene of a queen facehugger. it also cuts out the very cheesy bit in my opinion, at the end when she is falling,, NO chest burster. \W/ corp. building better worlds
A GREAT Score from Goldenthal - loved it when I saw the Film in 1992!! Alien 3 is now becoming more appreciated after the 'Assembly Cut' release. Some of the scenes are just awesome - the 'birth' of the Alien/the cremations & Dutton's speech all cut together with THIS Score! The 'core' Alien films should just be 1-3... My Order of favourites - Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Prometheus I just hope Scott gets to finish the story - he's not getting any younger!!
I would like it if Ripley woke up in alien 4 and realized alien 3 was a nightmare. Newton Colonel and Bishop is still alive .alien 2 ended with Newt asked Ripley if they can still dream.
Okay, I've changed the order a few days later, and now this is my favorite Alien films in order: Alien (great) Aliens (best) Alien 3 (good) Alien Resurrection (sucked)
in term of soundtrack greatness : 1) Aliens (most iconic alien universe soundtracks) 2) Alien 3 (classic intruments make it very emotionnal) 3) Alien (can't really remember a catchy soundtrack from it, sorry).
resurrection was better than Alien 3 and none of them sucked. If you wanna see bad movies, watch Alien Vs Predator. This music is good. It is actually brilliant. :) What other scores do we know that Elliot Goldenthal composed? He sure is a great composer?
Just consider how great this movie would have been if they hadn't killed Newt at the beginning. Ripley who had to protect not just herself but also a little girl against the beast and a bunch of murders.
It's when the company arrives on Fiorina 161 to help dispose of the Alien but they really intended to capture it and study it. That part I can picture what was going through Elliot's mind while he was composing this in L.A. in 1992 while the riots were going on. All the chaos in the city with no hope of dying down soon.
@M. Knepper It's on a bootleg somewhere on Russian sites.I have this track thanks to "AreYouNotEnterteined???" who has been banned twice already but every time he creates new You Tube account he uploads this, so if you'll be lucky you will find this.
Best score in any Alien franchise movie by far. Love Alien 3.
Fantastic score. People should see the Assembly Cut version of the film. Story is a lot more fleshed out, and a fitting end to the trilogy. (No, there was never a fourth one, that was just a fan fiction film.)
Where can I find it? Definitely a good gift for my dad.
@@echidnathemotherofmonsters1290 the assembly cut is on the most Alien 3 dvd and Blu Rays.
Assembly cut is inferior to the original cut, but there is oportunity to take good from both and to make ultimate cut
The Assembly Cut with the Dog Burst and the short Ending would be perfect. 😎 👍
Still prefer the theatrical cut
Probably one of, if not the, best and heartful movie soundtracks that ever touched me so deeply. It fits the story perfectly, and wonderfully and climactically ends our childhood hero, Ripley's life and struggle.
The texture is great. It's operatic, experimental and adds scope
It tears me up when it reaches Riley’s ending crescendo at least 75% of the time 😊😊😊😊😊
Deserved an oscar.
The soundtrack, not the movie
Was Nominated
Ripley’s sacrifice was beautiful. A simply stunning score for a heroes end.
A superb piece of music from a much maligned and misunderstood film.
Blame fox they crapped all over Fincher
Beautiful and sorrowful ending music. Excellent score

my favorite of the saga. great music
Sound track is one of the greatest ever...

Think of all we can learn from it! It's a chance of a lifetime! It's a magnificent specimen, you must let me have it!
No.
chaz Davis the look on Ripleys face during this moment...
For me, the most emotional moment in film. As a kid, I just felt hopeless during this scene.

One of the best master piece ever made.
Powerful Score! Despite all of it's hate, Alien 3 still got some MAJOR points right: Screenplay, Acting, Set Design, SCORE!
NOT the screenplay.
Smut Peddler i was chill... during 4:08- 4:40 with aggressive horn sound...

I have tried and tried to understand the hate behind it and for the life of me I cant. Fantastic movie.
Spectacular, sublime, beautiful, great, the work of a genius.

Charles Dutton is an underappreciated actor these days.

Might be a bad turn in the story, but DAMN this music is so soo beautiful!
you can't beat a bit of french horn.
What instrument is playing the overtones right at the beginning of the piece?
The strings bowing while sliding their fingers up and down the strings. Stravinsky did this near the beginning of his "Firebird Suite"
Cellos
I would like it if Ripley woke up in alien 4 and realized alien 3 was a nightmare. Newton Colonel and Bishop is still alive .alien 2 ended with Newt asked Ripley if they can still dream.
