It's not about the ingredients but rather about the amount. ( It was from a tip we get from village elder ). So you will get the required item from by meeting the required cost.
E.g. Cost 30:- Soap
And 20- 29:- Repellent. ( I exchanged 2 eggs and 1 candy. 10+10+5=25)

(Now I don’t know if it’ll work for you guys but I tried at random and got it, so hopefully it’ll work for you)
Use: 2spoons and a fork or 2forks and a spoon to get the Insect Repellent

Buy some cheap stuffs in stores (i bought candies, eggs,..) instead to make cheap things.
You can put in luxury materials to make bigger things.

Keep recycling three needles, it'll give you soap, matches and moswuito repellant. I think there's an alternative I used for soap but I can't remember

"Finding the shoe for windy" is the most time consuming task the game. One have to keep searching the trash patiently. I eventually cleared all the debt and then found one shoe that can go with the task.
I didn't get the thread by recycling tin,headphone and repellent instead I got pencil is there any other way that I can get thread.

You can now recycle it on the crafting table, you just need a plant resin and solvent.
