- Just outside Chama in northern New Mexico is Edward Sargent WMA. This property is managed by NM game and fish and is open to the public. Using horses and mules to show all the ends and out of this area. Everything from the topography to things to do to rules and regulations and even the history is covered in this video. Elk hunting is the most popular thing to do in the area but there are more opportunities for wildlife. If you are looking for a place to ride mountain bikes, horses or go on a hike for wildlife photography this is the place to go.

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like this isn't the spot to hunt mule deer. Super beautiful country though, I scouted it a couple weeks ago and saw a ton of elk sign
I was in there a couple weeks ago packing out an elk and the only deer I saw were close to the parking lot. I didn’t spend much time in there but I’m sure you can find some deer. There are a ton of elk in there this time of year. Good luck on your hunt.
Love your videos, thank you. So where is Duke? Awesome dog! I have two Yellow Labs same litter brothers; Waylon and Willie :) and was wondering if you did any snake proofing or anything on Duke. I want to take my boys with me but never have because of concern for them getting to tired to travel the whole day, or bumping into a black bear cubs and wanting to play and cougars and coyotes they have never seen and may want to chase. I ride/hunt solo in the NW part of Colorado, Flat Tops area pretty rugged trails. Thought about taking them shed hunting. Would love to have your thoughts on that.
I don’t take anything for snakes but when I was a teenager we had a dog killed by one. I’ve seen a few larger dogs like labs that were bit and they would swell up but it wasn’t fatal. It would be smart to carry dexamethasone because that’s what a vet will give them but I don’t. As for the length of trip as long as they are in decent shape they will be able to keep up no problem. For wildlife I’ve never worried about them and they help keep critters out of camp. I had a lab I would run with hounds and never worried about him at all. He didn’t know what he was doing but it was funny to see him at a tree.
I’ve only been to the flattops a couple times but that’s beautiful country.
As for Duke. He was swimming out to retrieve a duck and his hips gave out. He’s still as happy as ever but never completely recovered so I stopped taking him on long trips. We have two other labs so you should start seeing them in future videos.
